Installing Uplink Interf ace Modules (Optional) An SMD2000-24T d oes not require insta llation of an Uplink Interface Module (UIM) f or operational pur poses. A UIM offers additional upstream network por ts to supplement the two T1 uplink por ts already provided.
2. Mount the UIM on the SMD2000-24T Print ed Circuit Board (PCB). A UIM may be installed in either P or t 1 or P or t 2, or both for redundancy purposes. Using a Phillips screwdriver , remov e the flathead screws from both sides of the chosen por t on the chassis faceplate.
5. Secure the f aceplate. Using a Phillips screwdriver , secure the UIM faceplate to the SMD2000-24T faceplate with the two flathead screws included in your UIM packaging. 6. Replace the c hassis co ver . Replace the chassis cover and secure with the original e ight flathead screws as depicted in Step 1 on page 5.
Rack Installation Procedure T o insta ll the SMD2 000-24T in a rack: 1. Using a Phillips screwdriver , attach the two provided rac k mount brack ets to the sides of the SMD2000-24T with t he ten provided brack et screws.
P owering Up the SMD2000-24T C AUTION : T ur n your DC pow er source off until you ha ve completed connection of the SMD2000-24T as descr ibed below . Do not operate your SMD2000-24T without a ground connection. Procedure T o connect the SMD20 00-24T to power: 1.
The two ter minal blocks on the SMD2000-24T are independent feeds. Chassis power is supplied by only one termin al bloc k at a time; the second su pply is merely backup . Likewise , the two ter minal blocks do not load-share. Each terminal block must be supplied with the adequate amperage to r un the chassis.
7. V erify the connection. T urn your power source ON. The PWR (po wer) LED on your SMD2000-24T f aceplate will illuminate solid green to indicate that the chassis is receiving power . Connecting the SHDSL RJ21 Cable Procedure T o connect the SHD SL cable to the SMD2000-24T RJ21 connector : 1.
3. Slide the RJ21 plug connector of your SHDSL cable under neath the hook-and -loop f astener from the right and press it fir mly into the RJ21 socket on the chassis.
The speed and data passing capability of mult ip le SHDSL lines, as used f or one networ k connection, is cumulative. F or example, loop bonding three SHDSL lines for one network connection nets three times the speed and da ta passing capability of a single-line SHDSL connection.
Connecting the Uplink Lines T o connect the SMD2000-24T to T1 ser vice: 1. Configure the T1 uplinks. No configuration is necessar y f or the SM D2000-24T to operate at default settings . Howe ver , if you wish to run uplinks at settings other than the SMD2000 -24T defaults , configure the uplinks pr ior to connection.

Data Storage Configuration backup is inherent in the SMD2000-24T . Def ault parameters remain in place unless changed us ing the CL I, web management system, or SNMP . Memory P aramete r configurations are automatically recorded in both Random Access Memory (RAM) and Non-V olatile Random Access Memor y (NVRAM).
SMD2000-24T T emplate An SMD2000-24T templa te file records a ll management and por t configurations except IP Address. SHDSL Port T emplate A SHDSL por t confi guration file records all o f one por t's configurations except Circuit ID .
Reset Button The reset button is a small, unmarked b utton just to the right of the T1 up link LEDs on the chassis faceplate . The button is rece ssed and you need a paper clip, mechanical pencil, or similar tool to press i t. System Reset A system reset will clear all statistica l data (stored in RA M) and restart the SMD2000-24T .
