5 Installing in a Rack T wo types of mounting screws are provided. Use: #10-32 mounting screws f or rails with threaded screw holes #12-24 mounting screws and self-retaini ng nuts f or rails with unthreaded scre w holes Procedure T o insta ll the Probe in a rack: 1.
6 3. Inser t and tighten the screws in the top screw positions, then tighten the bottom screws . Connecting to P ower The Probe requires a 120 V AC , 60 Hz pow er source. Procedure T o con nect the 9550 DS3 Probe to power: 1. Connect a ground wire to the grounding screw on the front of the Probe.
7 3. Plug the sock et end of the power cord into the po wer receptacle on the back of the Probe. 4. Plug the power cab le into a 120 V AC , 60 Hz outlet.
8 Connecting the Subscriber P ort The Subscribe r por t connects to your DTE, such as a router . Procedure T o connect the Subscriber po r t: 1. If clearance at the front of the Probe is limited, attach r ight-angle BNC adapters to the ends of two BNC cables .
9 Connecting to the DS3 Network The Network por t connects to the packet netw ork . Procedure T o con nect the Network po r t: 1. If clearance at the front of the Probe is limited, attach r ight-angle BNC adapters to the ends of two BNC cables . 2. T ake the end of the receive cab l e and push it onto the NETWORK RX (Receiv e) connector .
10 7. If the cable length is longer than 100 fe et (30 meters), set the LBO on the T3 Network Interf ace Options configuration screen to Long. The default is Shor t.
11 Connecting the Modem Port The Probe suppor ts asynchro nous ter minal interface sessions ov er its integral modem. Procedure T o connect the Modem port: 1. Plug one end of an RJ11 telephone cable into the Modem por t. 2. Plug the other end of the cable into an RJ11 telephone jack.
12 Connecting the Console P ort The Console por t can be used to connect a VT1 00-compatible terminal or a PC with terminal emulati on softwa re, pro viding di rect access to the asyn chronous terminal interf ace. Procedure T o con nect the Console por t to a ter minal or PC: 1.
13 Using the Asynchronous T erminal Interface The Probe should operate using the defaul t (f actor y-set) configuration options, with ex ception to the changes specified in thes e installation instru ctions. Ref er to the f ollowing table f or hel p in navigating through the menus.
