ASUS Pundit P3-PH5 Chapter 1 System introduction This chapter gives a general description of the barebone system. The chapter lists the system features including introduction on the front and rear panel, and internal components.

2-2 Chapter 2: Basic installation 2.1 Preparation Before you proceed, make sure that you have all the components you plan to install in the system. Basic components to install 1. Central processing unit (CPU) 2. DDR2 Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) 3.

2-5 ASUS Pundit P3-PH5 2.4 Installing a CPU The ASUS motherboard comes with a surface mount LGA775 socket designed for the Intel ® Pentium ® 4 processor in the 775-land package.
2-6 Chapter 2: Basic installation T o prevent damage to the socket pins, do not remove the PnP cap unless you are installing a CPU. 2. Press the load lever with your thumb (A) and move it to the left (B) until it is released from the retention tab. Retention tab Load lever This side of the cam box should face you.

2-8 Chapter 2: Basic installation 2.4.2 Installing the CPU fan and heatsink assembly The system package includes a pre-installed proprietary CPU fan and heatsink assembly to ensure optimum thermal condition and performance. DO NOT replace the proprietary CPU fan and heatsink with other models.
2-9 ASUS Pundit P3-PH5 2.5 Installing a DIMM The system motherboard comes with four Double Data Rate 2 (DDR2) Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) sockets. A DDR2 module has the same physical dimensions as a DDR DIMM but has a 240-pin footprint compared to the 184-pin DDR DIMM.
2-10 Chapter 2: Basic installation DDR2 Qualied V endors List The following tables list the memory modules that have been tested and qualied for use with this motherboard. Visit the ASUS website (www .asus.com) for the latest DDR2 DIMM modules for this motherboard.
2-11 ASUS Pundit P3-PH5 2.5.2 Installing a DIMM Unplug the power supply before adding or removing DIMMs or other system components. Failure to do so can cause severe damage to both the motherboard and the components. T o install a DIMM: 1. Unlock a DIMM socket by pressing the retaining clips outward.
2-12 Chapter 2: Basic installation 2.6.2 Expansion card installation Make sure to unplug the power cord before adding or removing expansion cards. Failure to do so may cause you physical injury and damage the motherboard. T o install an expansion card: 1.

2-15 ASUS Pundit P3-PH5 2.7 Installing an optical drive The system comes with a 5.25-inch drive bay for an optical drive. 2. Drive a screw on the top right screw hole on both sides of the drive. The screw holes are approximately 5 cm from the drive front panel and 2 cm from the drive base.
2-16 Chapter 2: Basic installation 7. Carefully push the optical drive all the way into the bay until the optical drive lock clicks. 8. Connect a 4-pin power plug from the power supply unit to the power connector at the back of the drive. Uninstalling the optical drive In the future, you may have to upgrade or replace a defective optical drive.
2-17 ASUS Pundit P3-PH5 2.8 Removing the card reader In the future, you may have to remove or replace the 6-in-1 card reader . T o uninstall the card reader: 1. Remove the front panel assembly following the instructions in “2.3.2 Removing the front panel assembly”.
2-18 Chapter 2: Basic installation 2.9 Installing hard disk drives (HDDs) The system comes with two 3.5-inch drive bays (labeled 1 and 2) for installation of two Serial A T A hard disk drives or one IDE HDD (if you have installed an optical drive). 2.

3-2 Chapter 3: Getting started If Autorun is NOT enabled in your computer , browse the contents of the support CD to locate the le ASSETUP .EXE from the BIN folder . Double-click the ASSETUP .EXE to run the CD. 3.1 Installing an operating system This system supports Windows ® 2000/2003 Server/XP operating systems (OS).

ASUS Pundit P3-PH5 5-33 If you forget your BIOS password, you can clear clear it by erasing the CMOS Real T ime Clock (RTC) RAM. See section “4.2 Jumpers” for information on how to erase the RTC RAM. 5.6.3 Security The Security menu items allow you to change the system security settings.
