After 1 minute of inactivity , th e handset enters screen saver mode if the handset is not on the base unit or charger .

Preparation 23 Setting the unit before use Important: L T o programme features by scrolling through the display menus, see page 40. Making/Answering Calls 27 Mute While mute is turned on, you can hear the other party , but the o ther party cannot hear you. T o mute your voice, press { MUTE } . L T o return to the conversation, press { MUTE } or {C} . Note: L{ MUTE } is a soft key visible on the handset display during a call.
Making/Answering Calls 28 Call share This feature allows the handset and base unit to join an existi ng outside call. T o join the conversation, press {C} when the other extension is on an outside call. T o join the conversation, press { SP- PHONE } when the handset is on an outside call.

Phonebook 30 Handset phonebook Y ou ca n add up to 50 items to th e handset phonebook and search for phonebook items by name. Base Unit Speed Dialler 35 Base unit speed dialler Y ou can assign one ph one number to each of the 10 dial keys ( { 0 } – { 9 } ) on the base unit. Adding phone numbers to the speed dialler Important: L Before adding pho ne numbers, make sure the base unit is not being used.
Caller ID Service 36 Using Caller ID service This unit is Caller ID compatible. T o use Caller ID features (such as displaying caller phone numbers), you must subscribe to Caller ID service. Consult your service provider/telephone company for details.
Caller ID Service 37 conversation wil l be interrupted or muted for a short period of time. This is not a fault of the product as these events are normal. L The tones are generat ed by your service provider/telephon e company . T alking Caller ID This feature lets you know wh o is calling without looking at the displ ay .
Caller ID Service 38 Picture ID (Colour display models only) Important: L Only KX-TGA591AL support this feature. This feature can help you identify who is calling by using different pictures for different callers stored in the h andset phonebook (page 30).
Caller ID Service 39 Storing your area code We recommend storing your area code before using Caller ID (page 36). Calls from the same area will be recorded in the caller list without the area code. Y ou do not have to remove it before calling back the caller or storing in the phonebook.
Programming 40 Programmable settings Y ou can customise the unit by progra mming th e followi ng features using the handset. Af ter you subscribe to this service, the telephone service provider ’s V oice Mail system will answer calls for you when you are unava ilable to answer the phone or when your line is busy .
