5 Safety instructions INST ALLA TION: ● After moving the unit from cold areas to warmer areas, let the unit adjust to the warmer temperature and do not connect the unit for about 30 minutes. If the unit is connected too soon after a sudden climate change, condensation may form inside the unit causing malfunction.

Method of connection This apparatus is connected to the exchange line or P ABX/PMBX extension by the new standard British T elecom plug and socket.
7 Important Information Fitting a plug to the mains lead ! This appliance is supplied with a moulded three pin mains plug for your safety and convenience. A 13 amp fuse is fitted in this plug. Should the fuse need to be replaced please ensure that the replacement fuse has a rating of 13 amps and that it is approved by AST A or BSI to BS1362.

16 Setup T oner cartridge and drum unit ! Caution: ● Read the instructions below before you begin installation. After you have read them, open the drum unit protection bag. The drum unit contains a photosensitive drum. Exposing it to light may damage the drum.

18 Setup Note for installation: ● Do not place the unit in an area where the paper tray may be obstructed (i.e. by a wall etc.). ● Recording paper will be ejected from the front of the unit. Do not place anything in front of the unit. Paper stacker and paper tray ! Insert the paper tray into the slot on the back of the unit.
19 Setup Recording paper ! 1 Pinch the right side of the recording paper guides, then slide it open to its full width. 2 Fan the stack of paper to prevent a paper jam. 3 Insert the paper into the recording paper entrance. ● The paper should not be over the tab.

34 Sending Faxes T o select the resolution Select the desired resolution according to the type of document. — ST ANDARD : For printed or typewritten originals with normal-sized characters. — FINE : For originals with small printing. — SUPER FINE : For originals with very small printing.

42 Receiving Faxes Setting the unit to receive faxes ! Y ou have a separate telephone line just for faxes. F AX ONL Y mode (p. 45) T urn AUT O ANSWER on by pressing PQ . When receiving calls: All incoming calls will be answered as faxes. Use only as a fax Y ou want to use the fax machine with an answering machine.
43 Receiving Faxes Other option Y ou plan to answer the calls yourself. TEL mode (p. 44) T urn AUT O ANSWER of f by pressing PQ . When receiving calls: Y ou have to answer all calls manually . T o receive a fax document, press i for each fax you are receiving.
44 Receiving Faxes 1 When the unit rings, lift the handset to answer the call. 2 When: — document reception is required, — a fax calling tone (slow beep) is heard, or — no sound is heard, press i . 3 Replace the handset. ● The unit will start fax reception.
45 Receiving Faxes ON F AX ONL Y mode ! (all calls are received as faxes) If the F AX ON light is off, turn it on by pressing PQ . 46 Receiving Faxes 1 Connect the answering machine. Using the unit with an answering machine ! Setting up the fax machine and an answering machine 2 Set the number of rings on the answering machine to less than 4. ● This will allow the answering machine to answer the call first.
47 Receiving Faxes Receiving a voice message and fax document in one call The caller can leave a voice message and send a fax document during the same call. Inform the caller of the following procedure beforehand: 1. The caller calls your fax machine.

Sending a PC document as a fax message from your PC Y ou can access the fax function from a Windows application using Multi-Function Station software. For example, to send a document created from Microsoft Word, proceed as follows: 1 Open the document you want to send.
