Before Use - 4 - Precaution Optimal use of the camera A Fully peel off the strip of tape A fr om the lens cover bef ore using the camera. Do not strongl y shake or bump the camera b y dropping or hitting it.
Before Use - 5 - About Condensation (When the lens is fogged up) • Condensation occurs when the ambient temperature or humidity changes. Be careful of condensation since it causes lens stains, fungus and camera malfunctions . • If condensation occurs, turn the camera off and leav e it for about 2 hours.
Before Use - 6 - Check that all the accessories are supplied bef ore using the camera. • The accessories and their shape will differ depending on the country or area where the camera was purchased. For details on the accessories, ref er to Basic Owner’ s Manual.

Before Use - 8 - This touch panel is a type that detects pressure. Y ou can operate the camera by directly touching the icons or images on the LCD monitor (T ouch P anel) with your nger or the supplied stylus pen. T ouch T o touch and release the touch panel.
Before Use - 9 - Note • If you use a commercially a vailable liquid crystal protection sheet, please follo w the instr uctions that accompany the sheet.
Preparation - 10 - About batteries that you can use with this unit Supplied battery or dedicated optional batter ies can be used with this camera. It has been found that counterfeit battery pac ks which look very similar to the genuine product are made a vailable to pur chase in some markets.
Preparation - 11 - Plug-in type Connect the charger to the electrical outlet. • Charging star ts when the [CHARGE] indicator A lights green. Preparation - 14 - Inser ting and Remo ving the Car d (optional) / the Battery • Check that this unit is turned off. • We recommend using a P anasonic card. Slide the release lever in the direction of the [OPEN] and open the card / battery door . • Alwa ys use genuine Panasonic batteries.
Preparation - 15 - Note • Remov e the batter y after use. • Before remo ving the card or batter y , tur n the camera off and wait f or the “LUMIX” display on the LCD monitor to clear . (Otherwise, this unit may no longer operate normally and the card itself may be damaged or the recorded pictures ma y be lost.
Preparation - 16 - About the Built-in Memory / the Card When the card is inser ted, pictures are sav ed to the card. When there is no card inser ted, pictures are sav ed to the built-in memor y [ 1 ]. Built-in Memory • Y ou can copy the recorded pictures to a car d.
Preparation - 17 - While accessing the built-in memory or card The access indication lights red. [ 2 ] (Built-in Memory) / [ 3 ] (Card) While lighting, operations such as writing/reading pictures, deleting or f or matting are being performed. Do not turn the power off, or do not remo ve the battery , card or A C adaptor (optional).
Preparation - 18 - Setting Date / Time (Clock Set) • The cloc k is not set when the camera is shipped. Open the lens cover . • The camera is turned on. • If the language select screen is not display ed, proceed to step 4 . T ouch the language select icon on the screen.
Preparation - 19 - A q B w T ouch the items y ou wish to set (Y ear / Month / Day / Hour s / Minutes), and set using [ e ] / [ r ]. A : Time at the home area B : Time at the trav el destination • Y ou can continue to switch the settings b y continuously touching [ e ] / [ r ].
Basic - 20 - Recor ding Sequence Open the lens cover . The camera is turned on in Recording Mode. (Recording is possible with this setting.) A Shutter button Select Recording Mode. 1 T ouch [ w 1 ]. 2 T ouch the mode icon. • The description is display ed after the rst touch.
Basic - 21 - T ake the picture. Press the shutter button halfw ay to f ocus and then press it fully to take the picture. (For details , see P22 .) Close the lens cover . The camera is turned off. • The camera can also be turned off by pressing the camera ON / OFF s witch.
Basic - 22 - T aking Pictures Using the Automatic Function ( 4 : Intellig ent A uto Mode) [Rec] Mode: 4 The camera will set the most appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recommend this mode for beginners or those who w ant to leave the settings to the camera and take pictures easily .
Basic - 23 - When taking pictures using the ash (P51) • When [ w ] is selected, [ w ], [ e ], [ r ] or [ { ] is set depending on the type or brightness of the subject. • When [ e ] or [ r ] is set, Digital Red-Eye Correction is activ ated.

Basic - 26 - T aking Pictures with Y our F av orite Settings ( 1 : Normal Picture Mode) [Rec] Mode: 1 The camera automatically sets the shutter speed and the aperture value according to the brightness of the subject. Y ou can take pictures with greater freedom b y changing various settings in the [Rec].

Basic - 28 - Preventing jitter (camera shake) When the jitter alert [ 0 ] appears, use [Stabiliz er] (P86) , a tripod or the self-timer (P57) . • Shutter speed will be slower particularly in the following cases. Keep the camera still from the moment the shutter button is pressed until the picture appears on the screen.
Basic - 29 - T ouching the subject on the screen to record can automatically f ocus and release the shutter . • T ouch AF/AE (P30) or AF T racking (P24) cannot be used at the same time . T ouch [ Q ]. [ R ]: T ouch Shutter recording enabled [ Q ]: T ouch Shutter canceled A T ouch the subject y ou wish to focus on.
Basic - 30 - T ouching the subject to record can adjust the f ocus and the exposure. This is useful when the targeted subject is not in the center of the screen, etc.
Basic - 31 - Pla ying Back Pictures ([Normal Pla y]) [Playbac k] Mode: 5 If the card is inser ted, pictures in the card are play ed back. If not, pictures in the built-in memory are played bac k. T ouch [ 9 ] in Recor ding Mode . • T ouching [ 9 ] in Recording Mode will automatically enter Normal Playback Mode .
Basic - 32 - Displaying Multiple Screens (Multi Pla yback) A T ouch [ [ ] to change to the 12 screen display . • Each time you touch, the displa y method is switched. [ 9 ] 1 screen, [ [ ] 12 screens, [ ] ] 30 screens, [ t ] Calendar (P90) • This can also be switched b y moving the zoom lev er to [ 6 ] (W) or [ 7 ] (T).
Basic - 33 - Using the Playbac k Zoom A T ouch the part to enlarge. 1 " 2 " 4 " 8 " 16 • Moving the zoom le ver to [ 7 ] (T) can also enlarge the picture. • When you change the magnication, the z oom position indication A appears for about 1 second.
Basic - 34 - This records motion pictures with sound. (Motion pictures cannot be recorded without audio .) T ouch [ w 1 ] in Recor ding Mode . T ouch [ 6 ].
Basic - 35 - Note • The ash setting is xed to [ o ]. • It is recommended to use a card with SD Speed Class with “Class 6” or higher when recording motion pictures. • The av ailable recording time display ed on the screen may not decrease regularly .
Basic - 36 - Pla ying Back Motion Pictures [Playbac k] Mode: 5 A B Select motion picture icon and touch [ 5 ] to pla y back. A Motion picture icon B The motion picture recording time • After playbac k star ts, the elapsed playbac k time is display ed on the screen.
Basic - 37 - Deleting Pictures [Playbac k] Mode: 5 Once deleted, pictures cannot be recovered. • Pictures on the built-in memory or the card, which are being play ed back will be deleted. T o delete a single picture Select the picture to be deleted, and then touch [ 4 ].
Basic - 38 - T o delete multiple pictures (up to 50) or all the pictures T ouch [ 4 ]. T ouch [Delete Multi] or [Delete All]. • [Delete All]: [Delete All] " step 5 . • If you select [All Delete Except z ] after selecting [Delete All], the pictures e xcept ones of fa vorite setting are deleted.
Basic - 39 - Setting the Menu Using the menu, you can select y our preferred recording or pla yback functions, or can make basic settings f or the camera. This section describes the operation method using the example of ho w to set the [AF Mode] in the recording menu to [ 3 ] (F ace Detection).
Basic - 40 - T ype of menu 1 Recording menu (Only in Recor ding Mode) When recording with your pref erred settings (P76 to P86) • Color shade, sensitivity , number of pix els, etc.
Basic - 41 - Calling up frequently used menus easil y (Shor tcut setting) Y ou can alwa ys display on the LCD monitor your f av orite menu items among the recording menu and the pla yback menu. Up to 2 items for the recording men u and 2 items for the pla yback menu can be registered.
Basic - 42 - About the Setup Menu P erform these settings if you need to . [Clock Set], [A uto P ower Off] and [A uto Revie w] are impor tant items. Check their settings before using them. For details on how to select the [Setup] menu settings, refer to P39 .
Basic - 43 - [LCD Mode] These menu settings make it easier to see the LCD monitor when you are in bright places or when you are holding the camera high abov e your head. x [Auto P ower LCD]: The brightness is adjusted automatically depending on how bright it is around the camera.
Basic - 44 - [Auto Re view] Set the length of time that the picture is display ed after taking it. [1 SEC.] / [2 SEC.] / [HOLD] (The pictures are display ed until one of the buttons is pressed.) / [OFF] • [Auto Re view] is activ ated regardless of its setting when using [Hi-Speed Burst], [Flash Burst] and [Photo F rame] in Scene Mode and [Burst].
Basic - 45 - [Rotate Disp.] This mode allows y ou to automatically display pictures vertically if they were recorded holding the camera vertically . [ F ] (Automatically set to portrait orientation) [ G ] (Set to por trait orientation only when viewing on TV) [OFF] [V ersion Disp.
Basic - 46 - [Calibration] Adjust the position of the touch panel if a different thing gets selected from what you touched or touch operation does not respond. 1 T ouch [Start]. 2 T ouch the orange [ 4 ] mark displayed on the screen in order with the stylus pen (supplied) (5 places).
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 47 - T ouch [DISP .] to change. • During Playbac k Zoom, while playing bac k motion pictures and during a slide show , you can only select “Nor mal display D ” or “No displa y F ”.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 48 - T aking Pictures with the Zoom [Rec] Mode: 4 1 < 5 / 6 Using the Optical Zoom / Using the Extended Optical Zoom (EZ) / Using the Intelligent Zoom / Using the Digital Zoom 4x magnication is possible with the Optical Zoom.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 49 - Feature Intelligent Zoom Digital Zoom Maximum magnication Approx. 1.3× of Optical Zoom or Extended Optical Zoom 4× of Optical Zoom, Extended Optical Zoom or Intelligent Zoom Picture quality No noticeable deterioration The higher the magnication lev el, the greater the deterioration.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 50 - Note • The indicated Zoom Magnication is an approximation. • “EZ” is an abbreviation of “Extended Optical Zoom”. • The Intelligent Zoom employs the super-resolution technology , which can increase the zoom ratio without noticeab le deter ioration of the image quality .

Advanced (Recording pictures) - 56 - Macro Zoom Y ou can take a picture with the Digital Zoom up to 3× while maintaining the distance to the subject for the e xtreme Wide position [10 cm (0.33 feet)]. A • Focus r ange will be 10 cm (0.33 feet) to 7 during Macro Zoom Mode regardless of the zoom position.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 57 - Select [Selftimer] from the recording men u. (P39) Select the setting. • After setting, close the menu. Press the shutter button halfway to focus and then press it full y to take the picture. • The self-timer indicator A blinks and the shutter is activated after 10 seconds (or 2 seconds).

Advanced (Recording pictures) - 64 - [Sports] This mode allows y ou to take pictures of sports scenes or other fast-moving e vents. Note • The shutter speed becomes a maximum of 1 second. • This mode is suitable f or taking pictures of subjects at distances of 5 m (16.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 65 - [Food] This mode allows y ou to take pictures of f ood with a natural hue without being affected b y the ambient light in restaurants etc. [P arty] Select this mode when you w ant to take pictures at a wedding reception, an indoor party etc.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 66 - [Baby1] / [Bab y2] This takes pictures of a bab y with a healthy comple xion. When y ou use the ash, the light from it is weaker than usual. It is possible to set diff erent bir thdays and names f or [Baby1] and [Baby2].
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 67 - [Sunset] Select this mode when you w ant to take pictures of a sunset vie w . This allows you to take vivid pictures of the red color of the sun. [High Sens.] This mode minimizes the jitter of the subjects, and enab les you to take pictures of these subjects in dimly lit rooms.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 68 - [Flash Burst] Still pictures are taken continuously with ash. It is convenient to tak e continuous still pictures in dark places. Setting Picture size 3M (4:3), 2.5M (3:2), 2M (16:9) and 2.5M (1:1) is selected as the picture size.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 69 - [Firew orks] This mode allows y ou to take beautiful pictures of re wor ks e xploding in the night sky . T echnique for Fire works Mode • Since the shutter speed becomes slower , we recommend using a tripod.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 70 - [Aerial Photo] This mode allows y ou to take pictures through an airplane window . T echnique for Aerial Photo Mode • We recommend using this technique if it is difcult to f ocus when taking pictures of clouds etc.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 71 - [High Dynamic] Y ou can use this mode to easily record pictures in which bright and dar k regions of the scene are expressed with suitab le br ightness when looking into the sun, at night, or in similar circumstances.

Canceling the travel date The trav el date is automatically canceled if the current date is after the retur n date.

This allows the sensitivity to light (ISO sensitivity) to be set. Setting to a higher number enables pictures to be tak en even in dark places without the resulting pictures coming out dark.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 78 - [White Balance] For details on [Rec] Mode menu settings, refer to P39 . In sunlight, under incandescent lights or in other such conditions where the color of white.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 79 - Auto White Balance Depending on the conditions when pictures are taken, the pictures ma y take on a reddish or bluish tinge . Fur ther more, when a multiple n umber of light sources are being used or there is nothing with a color close to white, A uto White Balance ma y not function proper ly .
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 80 - About [ 3 ] (Face Detection) The follo wing AF area frames are display ed when the camera detects the faces . Y ellow: When the shutter button is pressed halfw ay , the frame tur ns green when the camera is f ocused.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 81 - About [ 7 ] (AF T racking) When the subject is touched on the screen, the subject is set as a target of AF tracking. • The AF area (AF tracking fr ame) is displayed in y ellow . The camera continues to f ocus the subject and adjust the exposure e ven if the subject mo ves afterw ards.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 82 - [Exposure] Refer to P58 f or details. [i.Exposure] For details on [Rec] Mode menu settings, refer to P39 . Contrast and e xposure will be adjusted automatically when there is a big difference in brightness between the subject and background.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 83 - [Digital Zoom] For details on [Rec] Mode menu settings, refer to P39 . This can enlarge subjects ev en more than the Optical Zoom, Extended Optical Zoom or Intelligent Zoom. Applicable modes: 1 < 5 / [ON] / [OFF] Note • Refer to P49 f or details.
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 84 - Note • Do not turn the camera off or remove the card after recording until the access indication lights off. • The Burst speed becomes slower halfw ay . The exact timing of this depends on the type of card, the picture size and the quality .
Advanced (Recording pictures) - 85 - [AF Assist Lamp] For details on [Rec] Mode menu settings, refer to P39 . Illuminating the subject makes it easier f or the camera to focus when recording in lo w light conditions that make f ocusing difcult.

Advanced (Playback) - 91 - [Category Selection] This mode allows y ou to search images by Scene Mode or other categories (such as [P or trait], [Scener y] or [Night Scener y]) and sor t the pictures into each of the categories. Y ou can then play bac k the pictures in each category .
Advanced (Playback) - 92 - [Fa vorite] Y ou can play bac k the pictures you ha ve set as [F avorite] (P100) (Only when there are pictures which hav e been set to [Fa vorite]).
Advanced (Playback) - 93 - Rening P or traits (Beauty Retouch) [Playbac k] Mode: 5 (Only f or DMC-FP7) By adding make-up eff ects, adjusting texture of skin, etc., y ou can transform the faces of subjects ev en after taking pictures so they look more attractiv e.
Advanced (Playback) - 94 - T ouch [OK]. • Pre-transf or med and post-transformed pictures are display ed side by side. T ouch [OK]. • Returns to the screen on step 3 . • If you w ant to transf or m other subjects in succession, touch other faces and perform from step 3 .
Advanced (Playback) - 95 - Using the [Pla yback] Mode Men u [Playbac k] Mode: 5 Y ou can use various playbac k functions such as setting of pictures to upload to the image sharing sites, resizing recorded pictures, setting protection, etc. • Using [T e xt Stamp], [Resize] or [Cropping], a newly edited picture is created.
Advanced (Playback) - 96 - Canceling all the [Upload Set] settings Select [Upload Set] " [CANCEL] " [Y es] on the playbac k menu. Note • A card with the capacity of less than 512 MB cannot be set. • Y ou may not be ab le to set pictures taken with other equipment.
