2 Basics Y our New T reo 700wx Smart Device Y o ur Dev ice ’ s Featu res : Fro nt View Note: Throughout this gui de the term device is used to describe your T reo smart device and its ph ysical aspects. The te rm phone is used to describe the fea ture of your smart devi ce that ena bles you to c onnect to the Nationwide Sprint P CS Network.
Basics 3 Basics 1. Indicato r Ligh t provides status inf orm ation fo r your device based on the c o lor of the light and the blink sta te. 2. Earp iec e serves as the speaker on y our device when y ou are not using the speake rphone f eatur e or a headset.
4 Basics Y our Device’ s Features: Back View 12. Came ra Le ns enables you t o take pictur es using th e built -in camera (if included). There are two model s of the T reo700wx smart device: One comes with a camer a and the other does not. The packaging for your device iden tifies whether a camera is included.
Basics 5 Basics 16. Multi-connector enables you to at tach the USB sync cable and AC char ger to your device. Y ou can connect the charger either to the sync cable c onnec tor or directly to the charger j ack on the Multi-connector . 17. Microphone serves as the mouthpiece on your de vice’ s phone.
6 Basics 20. Infrared (IR) Port uses infrared technology to tr ansmit information to and receive informa tion from other infr ared-enabled devices tha t use compatible sof tware. 21. Antenna r eceives and sends wireless c ommunication signals. The antenna does not retr ac t into or e xtend out of y our device.
Basics 7 Basics Maintaining the Battery Inserting t he Battery 1. Use one hand to press the Battery D oor Relea se , and use your other hand to slide the battery door downw ard to remove i t from your devi ce. 2. Align the ba ttery contacts wi th the battery c ompar tment co ntacts.
8 Basics 4. Slide the battery door onto the back of the sm art device until it clicks into place. Y our smart device screen turns on and the T reo screen appears. W ait for the pr ogress bar on the T reo screen to fill and the Window s Mobile ® screen to appear .
Basics 9 Basics T urning Y our Smart Device On/Of f The phone and the screen of y our T reo700wx smart device can be turned off a nd on separa tely . This means you can wak e up the screen to use just the or ganizer fea tures of your de vice without turning on the phone.
10 Basics W aking Up the Screen and T urning It Off W ake up the screen and l eave the phone tu rned off when y ou want to use only the organiz er f eatures of your s mart device. Y ou can also turn of f you r smart device’ s screen without turning off y our smart device’ s wireless featur es.
Basics 11 Basics Moving Ar ound the Screen T o move ar ound the T reo700wx smar t device scr een, you can use the 5-way na vigator or y ou can tap items on the screen with the stylus. As you become f amiliar with your smar t device, you’ll find your own fa vorite way to scroll, highlight, and select items.
12 Basics Scro ll in g Th rou gh Scr een s As on a computer , on your smar t device you scroll to move fr om field to field or page to page, or in some cases to highlight an item or option in a list. There are sev eral methods of scrolling: 䢇 Press the 5-wa y on the front of your smart device.

Basics 15 Basics Selecting Menu Items In many applications , a menu provides access to additional features. The menu is hidden until you pr ess Menu (right sof tkey) . 1. Press Menu (right softk ey) to display a n application ’ s menu. 2. Press Up or D o wn to highlight a menu item.
16 Basics Selecting Options in a List Lists let you select from a range of options. Y o u can identify whether a list is av ailable when you select the field. If a rectangle appear s ar ound the field along with a downward- pointing arrow , a list is available.
Basics 17 Basics Using the K eyboard When using the ke yboard, most people find it easiest to h old the smart device with two hands and to use th e tips of both thumbs to press the keys. Entering Low ercase and Uppercase L etters By default, the fi rst letter of each sentence or field is capitaliz ed and the remaining text y ou enter is lowerc ase.
18 Basics 䢇 Press Shif t twice to turn o n Caps Loc k , and then enter a series of letters. (When Cap s Lock is on, this symbol appears at the bottom of the screen: . T o turn off Caps Lock , press Shif t again.) Entering Numbers , Punctuation, and S ymbols Numbers, punctuation, and symbols appear ab ov e the letters on the ke ys.
Basics 19 Basics Opening and Closing Applications Opening Applications Y ou can access all the applications on your smart device through the Star t menu: 1. Press Start to open the Start menu. 2. Use the 5-way na vigator to highlight the application y ou want to use.

Basics 21 Basics Checking Signal St rength and Phone Status Y ou can monitor the st atus of y our devic e’ s signal str ength and sev eral other i tems, using icons at the top of y o ur To d a y screen: 0 Sprint Y our phone is on and you’ re inside the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network.
22 Basics 0 Y ou are in an area that supports Sprint PCS Vision (1xRTT) data services. 1xRTT (Single carrier [1x] r adio transmission technology) is a wireless technology that can pr ovide f ast data tr ansfer and Internet access wit h aver age speeds of 60–80Kbps and bursts up to 144Kbps.

Basics 33 Basics Defining Speed-Dial Buttons Y our smart device lets you cr eate both pictur e and text speed-dial buttons so that y ou can select a button on the To d a y screen to quickly dial a number . Creating a Speed-Dial Butt on Y ou can create up to 20 picture button s and 50 text bu ttons.
