OUTBACK FLEX ware Surge P rotector INST ALLA TION GUIDELINES AND SAFET Y INSTRUC TIONS This product is intended to be installed as part of a permanently grounded electrical system . • The FLEXware Sur ge P rotector is designed f or indoor installation or installation inside a weatherproof enclosure .
INTRODUC TION The OutBack FLEXware Sur ge Pr otec tor connects to the f ollowing FX Ser ies Inverter/Charger por ts: • DC+ • DC- • AC HO T IN • AC NEUTRAL IN • AC HO T OUT • AC NEUTRAL OUT • GROUND The FLEXware Sur ge Pr otec tor is desig ned to protect the FX’ s sensitive components from excessively high v oltages (e.
The FLEX ware Surge P rotector Speci cations LEDs • AC TIVE lights are y ellow (power is present). • ERROR lights are red (pr otection in that circuit is compromised , replacing the surge pr otec tor is recommended). • F or the ERR OR light to show , its circuit must be pow ered; its ACTIVE light will also glow.

(1) Remove the DC C or T urbo (secured by four Phillips corner screws) (2) Remove the DC battery caps (under the DCC or T urbo) (3) Remove the AC Wiring Compartment plastic cover (secured with two Phi.
(7) Remove the appropriate knockouts for the individual power application. Note that knockouts should be scored rst with a utility knife and then removed . The dual, concentric knock out on the back o ers openings for the FW500, FW1000, PS2 and PS4 AC enclosures .
9 (11) Inser t a bushing into the AC enclosur e (it is not critical that this bushing line up precisely with the FW-SP -ACA); if exible cable is used instead of an enclosure , appropriate strain relief is r equired.
FW-SP -250 The FW-SP -250 is a two-piece combined FLEXware 250 top cover and FLEX ware Surge P rotector . I t replaces an existing FLEXwar e 250 cover , attaching at the AC end of the FLEXware 250. Pr ocedure The FLEXware 250 A C should already be installed (see FW250 AC instructions) and all AC and DC power shut o .
(8) Route the FW-SP -250 wires through to the A C Wiring Compartment and to the batter y lugs. (9) Secure the surge pr otec tor’ s wiring in the appropriate locations and replace the various plastic covers as per the wiring instructions on page 16. 11 (5) Install the top section of the cover contain- ing the surge prot ector rst.

1/ 3/07 The locating pin on the FW-ACA bracket ts in this slot (4) P ass the FW-SP -R wires through the FW - ACA Bracket opening, lining up the locating pin with the slot on the surge prot ector .
(5) With the FW-SP-R attached t o the FW-ACA Bracket, hold the ends of the FW-SP -R wires and slide it and the bracket back inside the FW-ACA to its original location. NO TE: The FW-SP -R slides into a double slot at the bottom of the FW-ACA. The LEDs should be level with the top of the FW-A CA housing.
(6) When the new surge protector board has been secured to the FW-SP -250 cover , reinstall the FW-SP -250 as shown on pages 10-11. (3) Remove the FW-SP -250 (secured by six Phillips screws). (2) Remove the AC Wiring Compartment cover (secured by two Phillips screws).
Wiring and C onnec ting the FLEX ware Surge Pr otec tor With the FW-SP -250 or FW-SP-ACA secur ed, connect all AC and DC wiring as well as any HUB, MA TE, A UX, and BA T TERY TEMP cables.
