Unpacking Y our Scope Use case when unpacking the shipping carton. W e recom- mend keeping the box es and all original packaging mater i - als. In the ev ent that the telescope needs to be shipped to another location, or returned for warranty repair , having the proper pac kaging will ensure that your telescope will sur viv e the journey intact.
Inser ting an Eyepiece An ey epiece magnifies the image focused by the telescope. The e yepiece fits into either the visual bac k directly or the star diagonal. T o install an ey epiece: 1. Loosen the set scre w on the star diagonal until the tip no longer e xtends into the inner diameter of the ey epiece end of the diagonal.
1 Choose a target that is in excess of one mile awa y . This eliminates any possible parallax effect between the tele - scope and finder . 2 Release the altitude and azimuth clamps of your telescope mount and point the telescope at your target. 3 Center your target in the main optics of the telescope.
This lev el of magnification assumes you have ideal conditions f or viewing, howe ver . The clearest, shar pest views will alwa ys be achie ved at lower po wers. K eep in mind that as you increase magnification, the bright- ness of the object viewed will decrease; this is an inherent principle of the la ws of physics and cannot be a voided.
Or , if you do not want to power up y our telescope, you can use P olaris. Its position relative to the celestial pole moves very little, thus eliminating the need to manually tr ack it. Bef ore you begin the collimation process, be sure that your telescope is in ther mal equilibrium with the surroundings.
