6 Cautions: • Use onl y fresh batte r ies of the required siz e and recomm end ed typ e . • Do not mi x old and ne w bat teries, diff e rent types of batteries (st andard, alk al ine , or rech arge ab le), or recharg eabl e batteries of diff eren t capacities .
7 When the sou nd distorts or we akens, replac e the batt eries . Warn ing: Dispo se of old ba tteries pro mptly an d prop erly. Do not burn or bury them. Caution: If you do not plan to use the SCP-97 for a week or m ore, or if you plan to power i t using on ly an AC or DC adapter, re move the batteries.

When you finish, discon nect the adapter from AC po wer before y ou disco nnect it f rom the SC P-97.
9 USING VEHICLE BA TTER Y PO WER You can power the SCP-97 from a veh icle’s 1 2V power sourc e (such as cig arette-ligh ter socket) u sing a 3V, 300-m A DC adapter and a size H Adaptaplu g (neither su pplied). B oth are available at you r local Radio Shack st ore.
10 Foll ow t he se st eps t o po wer t he S CP-9 7 fr om a ve hi- cle’s b attery. 1. Set the ad apter’ s v oltage s wi tch to 3V . 2. Insert the size H Adaptap lug into the adapt er’ s cord with the tip se t to neg ative (–). 3. Insert the adapte r’ s barrel plug into the SC P-97’ s DC3V jack.

CONNECTING THE ANTENNA When you con nect head phones or amplified speak- ers, the headphone s’ or speaker s’ cord acts as the FM antenn a, so be sure to fully ex tend the cord.
14 USING THE BEL T CLIP The sup plied bel t clip l ets you k eep you r hands fre e while yo u listen to the SC P-97. To atta ch the bel t clip, slide it in to the slots on the back of the SC P-97 and push up until it latches i n place.

24 To resto re the sound q uality, f ast-forward the tape from the beg inning to th e end of on e side, then com- pletely rewind it. Th en lo osen the tap e ree ls by ge ntl y tapping each side o f the ca ssette’s outer s hell on a flat surfac e. Caution: Be careful no t to dama ge the c assette when tappi ng it.
