5 PREPARATION USING THE BELT CLIP To attac h the be lt clip, alig n the tab on t he back of the cli p with the reces s on the ba ck of the case, t hen slide the cl ip up unti l it snap s into pla ce. To r emove t he belt clip, p ress the upp er par t of the clip and slide i t down.
6 Using Batte ries You can p ower your SCP-103 fro m two AA ba tteries (no t sup- plied). We reco mmend Ra dioShack alkalin e batteries . You can als o use recharg eable nicke l-cadmiu m batteries . If you use rech argeable ba tteries, yo u also need a battery charg er (not sup plied, av ailable a t your local RadioSh ack store).

8 U s i n g AC Po w e r You can p ower the SCP-103 u sing a 3V, 3 00 mA AC adap ter and a siz e H Adaptaplug ® (neither supplied ). Both are avai l- able at your lo cal Ra dioShack store. Cautions: Y ou must us e a Cl ass 2 powe r sour ce th at s up- plies 3V DC an d delivers at least 300 mA.
9 Using Y our V ehicle' s Cigarette-Lighter Soc ket You can po wer the SCP-103 from a vehic le’s 12V pow er source (s uch as ci garette-lig hter socke t) using a 3V, 300-mA DC adapte r and a size H Adapta plug ® (neith er supplie d). Both ar e availa ble at yo ur local Ra dioShac k store.
10 3. Insert the plug into the SCP-103' s DC 3V jack. 4. Plug the ada pter into the veh icle's cig arette-ligh ter sock et. Note: If the SCP-103 does not operate whe n you tu rn it on, remove the DC adapter from your vehic le's cigaret te-lighter socke t and che ck the soc ket for deb ris.

13 USING THE RADIO LISTENING TO TH E RADIO Important: Ma ke sure you have conn ected head phones or speake rs to the SCP-1 03. See “C onnectin g Headphon es or Amplifi ed Speaker s” on Page 11. 1. Press RADIO ON/OFF to turn on the r adio . 2. Adjust VO L U M E to a comf ortable l istening le v el.

19 USING THE ALARM You can s et the SCP- 103 to autom atically s ound a bee ping alarm a t a time y ou selec t. SETTING THE ALARM TIME 1. Press RAD IO ON/OFF to t ur n off the r adio . The displa y sho w s the curr entl y set time . 2. Press ALARM . ALARM and the cu rrently set a lar m time flash.

22 CLEANING THE T AP E-HANDLING PA R T S Dirt, d ust, or par ticles o f the tape's coati ng ca n a ccumula te on the tape h eads and other pa rts that the t ape touch es. This can great ly reduce the performanc e of the SCP-103 . Follow these s teps after every 20 hours of o peratio n.
23 RESTORING T APE T ENSION AND SOUND QUALITY After you play a cassette s everal t imes, th e tape migh t be- come ti ghtly wound on the reels . This can cause pla yback sound q uality to deteriorate . To restor e the soun d quality , fast-forw ard the tape from the beginni ng to the end of one side , then com pletely rewi nd it.
