6 Using A C P ower To power the CTR-109 from standard AC power, plug the s upplied power cord in to the AC I N j ack on the side of the C TR-1 09. The n pl ug th e othe r end into a sta ndard AC outlet.
7 3. Ins er t th e adapter ’ s large r plug into the vehicle’ s cig arette-lighte r sock et. USING AN EARPHONE For priva te listening , inser t the sup - plied ea rphone’s 1 / 8 -i nch plu g into the EAR jack. Note: Connec ting the earph one auto - matical ly dis connects the bu ilt-in speaker .
8 OPERA TION LO ADING A CASSETTE TA P E 1. T ake up any slack in the tape by tur ning one of the cass ette’ s hub s with a penc il. Caution : If you do not rem ov e the e x cess s lack, the tape could become ta ngled in th e record/ playbac k mechani sm.
9 3. Adju st VO L U M E and TO N E as desired. 4. Press ST OP to complet ely stop playbac k bef o re it autom aticall y stops. P ress ST OP/EJECT again to open the cass ette compar tment and remove the casset te tape.
10 Using an External Microphone You can connec t an exte rnal micro - phone (no t suppl ied) with a 1 / 8 -i nch plug to the CTR-109. Your local RadioShac k store se lls a variety of mi- crophon es. Note: Connecti ng an ext ernal mic ro- phone automati cally disc onnects the built-in m icropho ne.
11 2. Con nect the extern al source to the AU X ja ck using a patc h cord with a 1 / 8 -inch plug . 3. Sta r t the e x ter nal audi o source and set i ts volume control to a nor- mal lis tening lev el. 4. Press RECO RD to begin reco rd- ing. Both PLA Y and RECORD lock down.
12 To er ase the e ntire c assette tape, i n- sert the su pplied erasing plug into the MIC jack and press RECORD . (Be su re you have not co nnecte d anything to the AU X jack.) If you need to erase an entire c assette, you mig ht prefer us ing a bu lk tape eraser, a vailabl e at yo ur local RadioShac k store.
