4 CONNECTIONS Cautio n : Comple te all other c onnec - tions to the Sys tem 740 b efore you connect it to power. CONNECTING THE SPEAKE R S 1. Insert the right speaker wire’s plug in to the 4 OHM SPK R (right) speaker jack on the bac k of the System 740.
5 If you have an outs ide VHF TV ante n- na, you can use a si gnal splitter t o connect this syst em and a TV to the same ante nna. Your local RadioShac k store has a wid e selection of an tennas and connectors. CONNECTING POWER To connec t powe r, after mak ing all other connections , plug your system’ s power cord into a st and ard AC outlet.

The P OWER indicator turns off. ADJUSTING TH E BALANCE To adjust the soun d balance between the left and right spe akers, turn BAL- ANCE toward L (l eft) or R (right).

8 RADIO OPERATION 1. Press TUNER . The T UN ER indica- tor lig h ts. 2. Set BAND to AM or FM . 3. Adjust TUNING to the desired sta- tion. Notes: • Y our S ystem 740 h as a buil t-i n AM antenna, a nd t he A C pow er cord serves as an FM antenna. For the best AM reception, move the system.
9 CASSE TTE PLAYER OPERATION You can p lay a casset te tape in e it h er cassette deck, and record tapes in TAPE 1 . LOADING A CASSETTE TA P E Note: T ake up any slack in the tape by turning the cassette’s hub with a pencil. If y ou do n ot remove excess slack, the tape mig ht become tangled in the record/ p layback m echanism .
10 3. Press PLA Y . T he tape pl ayer pl ays the cass ette tape until it rea ches the end, then it automaticall y stops. Note: Press PA U S E to tempo- rarily stop the cas sette p layer . T o resume play , press P AUSE agai n. 4. Adjust VOLUME , E-BASS , BAL- ANCE , and FREQUENCY EQUAL- IZE R for th e desired s ound.
11 RECORDING O N A CASSETTE T A PE The System 740 can record from the radio or dub (copy) anot her tape. I t can also record from a n auxiliary au- dio source (see “Recording from an Aux ilia r y Au d io S o ur c e” on P ag e 14). Notes: •T h e VOLUME , E- BASS , BAL- ANCE , and FREQUENCY EQUAL- IZE R set tings do no t affect your recordi ng.

Load the cass ette yo u want to copy i nto T APE 2 with the sid e you want to record f a cing you. 2. Load a blan k casset te (or one y ou want to record ov er) into T APE 1 with the side you want to reco rd on facin g you.
13 T APE CARE TI PS Pre venting Acci dental Erasu re Cassette tapes have two erase -pro- tection tabs — on e for each side. To protect a recording from being ac ci- dentally recorded over or erased, use a screwdriver t o remove one or both of the cassette tape’s eras e-protection tab s.
14 USING AN AUX ILIARY AUDIO SOURCE If you connect ed an au xiliary audio source, such as a TV, VCR, a CD player, or an exte rnal cassette deck, you can use y our System 740 to l isten to or record from that source. (See “Connecting an Auxiliary Audio Source” on Page 4.
