7 USING THE RADIO Note: T o protect your hearing, s et the volume to its l owe st setting before you turn on the rad io. 1. Press POWER t o turn o n the sys- tem. The POWER indicator lights. 2. Set FUNCTION to TUNER . 3. Set BAND to AM o r one of the FM settings.

10 If the CD is stopped , repeatedly press SKIP or until the display shows the num ber of the t r a ck you want to p lay, then press PLA Y/P AUSE . The CD player s tarts playing the se- lecte d tra ck. Note: At the beginning of a CD, you can only skip forward.

15 CD CARE TIPS Even tho ugh a compact disc is very durable, trea t the C D surfac e with care. We recommend th e following precautions: • Do not write on ei ther side of the CD, particularly the non-label side (signals are read from the no n- label sid e).
16 If you wan t t o record on a tape after you h ave remov ed t he eras e- protection t ab f or that si de, pl ace a piece of strong plastic tape over that side’s erase-protection hole. B e sure you cover onl y the portion ori ginally covered by the erase-protection tab.
17 RESTORING T APE T E NSION AND SO UND QUALIT Y After you play a cassette tape several times, the tape m ight be come tightly wound on th e reels. This can cau s e playback sound quali ty to deteriorate. To restore the sound quality, fast- forward the tape from the be ginning to the end of one side, then compl etely rewind it.
