5 CONNECTIONS Cautio n : Do not plug in the pow er cord until all other conn ections are com p lete . CONNECTING ANOT HER AUDIO SOURCE T O THE INPUT JACK S You can connec t another audio source (such as a stereo V CR or CD player) so you can sing alo ng with t he audio source’s sound .
6 CONNECTING POWER When yo u have m ade all c onnect ions, plug your system’s power c ord into a standard AC outlet. Cautio n : Your system’s powe r cord has a polarized plug (one blade is wid- er than the ot her). If you have difficulty inserting the p lug into the outlet, do not force it.
7 USING THE 5 BAND EQUALIZER You can use t he 5 band frequen cy equalizer to c ustomize the sound y ou hear through the s peaker. Eac h of the five co ntrols lets you adjust the sound l evel in a specific fre quency range . Slide t he control up t o b oos t or down to reduc e the level.
8 USING THE RADIO Warnin g : To protect y o ur hearing, set MASTER VOLUME to MIN before you play the radio. 1. Press POW ER to turn on the sys- tem. The POWER indicator lights. 2. Set FUNCTION SELECT OR to TUNER . 3. Set BAND SEL ECTOR to AM , FM STEREO , or FM .
9 6. Adjust BALANCE if yo u co n- nected a n external speaker. 7. Adjust the 5 BAND EQUALIZE R controls as desired. To turn off the syst em , press POW ER .
10 USING THE CAS SETTE DE CK You can p lay a casset te tape in e it h er cassette deck, and re cord tapes in TAPE 1 . Warnin g : To protect y o ur hearing, set MASTER VOLUME to MIN before you play a c assette tape. LOADING A CASSETTE TA P E Note: Take up any slack in the t ape by turning the cassette’s hub with a pencil or your finger.
11 PLAYI N G A CASSETTE TA P E You can p lay a casset te tape in e it h er TAPE 1 or TAP E 2, or you can l oad cassette tapes in b ot h decks and pl ay them consecut ively. Norm al Play Follow these steps to pl ay a cassette t a pe in TAP E 1 or TAPE 2.

14 BALANCE — While y ou play a karaoke cassette tape , turn BAL ANC E to adjust th e balance bet ween the p re- recorded o riginal singer’s voice and the mus ic. If you u se an e xternal speaker, turn BALANCE to ad j us t the balance be twee n the left an d right speakers.
15 SINGING WITH ANOTHER AUD IO SOURCE If you conne cted another audio source (see “ Connecting Another Audio Source to the I nput Ja cks” o n Pa g e 5), follow these steps to sing along w ith that audio source. 1. Set FUNCTION SELECT OR to AUX . 2.

17 RECORDING You can record as you si ng along w it h a tape or anoth er audio sou rce. You can also record onl y the external au- dio source, or dub from o ne cassette tape to another. RECORDING TIPS • T ape quality greatly affects the quality of the recording.
18 RECORDING F ROM T HE RADIO 1. Set FUNCTION SELECTOR to TUNER . 2. Load a blank t ape (or one th at you want to record over) into T APE 1, with the side you want to record on facing you, and the full reel to the l e ft. 3. Press P AUSE the n RECORD on T APE 1.

20 T APE CARE TI PS Pre venting Acci dental Erasu re Cassette tapes have two eras e- protection tabs — one for each side. To protect a rec ording from bein g ac- cidentally recorded over or erased, use a screwdriver to rem ove one or both of the casse tte t ape ’s erase-pro- tection tabs.
21 4. Use a cotton swab dipped in denatured a lcohol or tap e head cleaning solut ion to clean the record/play heads, pin ch rollers, capstans, tape guid es, and era se heads. 5. When y ou finish c leaning, press STOP/ EJECT on T APE 1 and T APE 2 and c lose t he cassette compartment d oors.
