4 PREP ARA TION INST ALLIN G BA TTE R IES Your SCP-80 is powe red b y two AA batteries (not sup- plied). We recom mend a lkaline batteries (s uc h as Ra- dioShack Cat. No. 23-557). You can also use rechargeable nick el-cadmium batteries (Cat. No. 23- 125).

9 USING THE RADIO Importa nt: Make sure you hav e con nected headph ones or speakers to the SCP-80. 1. Set AM/FM/T APE/RADIO OFF to FM or AM . 2. Adju st VOLUME a s desired. 3. Rota te TUNING to select a radio station. Notes: • The SC P-80 has a built-in AM antenna, and the headphone s’ or speakers’ cord serves as an FM antenn a.
10 • For FM stereo reception , pull up the cassette com- partment cover , open t he c assette compart ment door , and set FM to ST . Close the cassette com- partment door and cover . The FM STERE O indicator lights during stereo reception. If FM stereo recept ion is poor or noi s y , set FM to MONO .

12 USING THE CASS ET TE PLA YE R PLA YING A CASSETTE T APE Important: Make sure you hav e connected hea dphones or spea kers to t he SC P-80. Note: A void using C-120 cas sette tapes. The y are very thin and can easily bec ome tangl ed in th e tape-handling parts.
13 3. T ake up any slack in the casset te tape by turn ing its hub with y our finge r or a pe ncil. If you d o not rem ove excess sl ack, the tape might become tangled in the play m echani sm. Avoid touc hing the tape. 4. W it h i t s open edge facing up, insert the tape as shown .
14 6. Press PLA Y to play the cassette. Notes: • After playing to the end of each side, the t ape automatical ly changes direction and p lays the other side . • T o manual ly change the tape’s direction to play the other side , move DIR to the other position.

18 THE FCC W ANTS YOU TO KNOW Your SCP-80 m ight cause TV or r a di o in terference even when it is operating properly. To determine wh ether your SCP-80 is causing the interference, turn it off. If the inter- ference goes away, your SCP-80 is causing it.

This can c ause playback sound quali ty t o det eriorate. To restore the sound quality, fast-forward the t ape from the beginning to the end o f one side, t hen comple tely rewind it.
