4 PREP ARA TION CONNECTING POWER Plug the cl ock r a dio’ s p ower cord into a standard AC outlet. The display flashes. INST ALLING THE BACKUP BA TTER Y To keep the clock runnin g during an AC power failure, install a 9-volt bat- tery. For the b est performance, we recommend an a l kaline b attery such as Ra di oShack Cat.

6 USING HEADP HO NES For private list en i ng, you need a pair of headphones (not supplied) with a 1 / 8 - inch (3.5 mm) plug. Your local R a- dioShack st ore has a wide selec t ion of headphones . Plug t he h eadphones into the EAR- PHONE jack on the bac k of the clock radio.

8 USING THE A L ARM You can set an al arm so the buz zer sounds or the radio plays at a spe c i- fied time. Fol low these st eps to set the alarm time. 1. Set FUNCTION to OFF . 2. While you press a nd h old ALARM , press HOU R . The ho ur digits advance by 1 eac h time you press HOUR .
9 USING T HE SLEEP TI MER The sleep timer lets you set the radio to play for up to 2 hours t he n automat- ically turn of f, so you can have the ra- dio play as you go to sleep. To use t he sleep timer, first make s ure the radio is off by setting FUNCTION to OFF .
10 RECEIVING WEA T HE R BROADCASTS WEAT HER RADIO OPERAT ION Follow these steps t o receive National Weather Service broadcasts. 1. T o turn o n the radio, set FUNC- TION to ON . 2. Set FM/AM/WX/ALERT to WX . 3. Adjust VOLUME to a com f ortable listening level .
11 2. Set ALERT LOCK as follows: • ON — When the radio receives an alert sig nal , t he siren soun ds continuously unt i l you change the FM /AM/ WX/AL ERT or ALERT LOCK setting. • OFF — W hen the radio receives an alert sig nal , the siren soun ds only during t he 10-second alert signal.
