9 Bef ore Using the T -4555 Notes: • If the remote controller doesn’t w ork reliably , try replacing the batteries. • Don’t mix ne w and old batteries or different types of batteries. • If you intend not to use the remote controller for a long time, remov e the batteries to prev ent damage from leakage and corrosion.
10 Connecting Antennas This section explains ho w to connect the supplied indoor FM antenna, AM loop antenna, and DAB antenna, and how to connect commercially a vailable outdoor FM and AM antennas. ■ European model ■ U.K. model The supplied indoor FM antenna is for indoor use only .
11 Connecting Antennas —Continued Connecting the D AB Antenna (C-D AB T uner Board Onl y) Connecting an Outdoor FM Antenna If you cannot achiev e good reception with the supplied indoor FM antenna, try a commercially av ailable out- door FM antenna instead.
12 Connecting the T -4555 Use the supplied audio cable to connect the T -4555’ s A UDIO OUTPUT L/R jacks to the TUNER IN jacks on your amplifier , as sho wn. To use the system functions, use the supplied cable to make an connection (see the next column).
13 Connecting the T -4555 —Continued W ith (Remote Interacti ve), you can control your -capable Onkyo CD player , T -4555, and so on with your amp’ s remote controller . •T o use , you must mak e an analog audio con- nection between your amplifier and each audio component.
14 Connecting the T -4555 —Continued Y ou can use the following multi-room kits to control the T -4555 when it’ s out of range of the remote controller: • Multiroom A V distribution and control systems such as those made by Niles ® and Xantech ® .
15 T urning On and Listening to AM and FM Radio W ith this function, you can adjust the brightness of the display . T uning into weak ster eo FM stations If the signal from a stereo FM station is weak, it may be impossible to get good reception. In this case, switch to Manual T uning mode and listen to the station in mono.

17 T urning On and Listening to AM and FM Radio —Continued RDS only works with European and U.K. models and only in areas where RDS broadcasts are av ailable. ■ What is RDS? RDS stands for Radio Data System and it’ s a method of transmitting data in FM radio signals.
18 T urning On and Listening to AM and FM Radio —Continued Displaying Radio T ext (RT) When tuned to an RDS station that’ s broadcasting R T text information, you can display information. Notes: • While the T -4555 w aits for R T information, “W ait- ing” appears on the display .
19 Listening to D AB Digital Radio Selecting D AB for the V ery First Time The very first time you select D AB, the Auto T uning function automatically scans the D AB Band III and L-Band for the multiplex es (i.e., stations) av ailable in your area. Once the scanning process is complete, the first station that was detected is selected.
20 Listening to D AB Digital Radio —Continued Displaying D AB Radio Information Press the [DISPLA Y] button repeatedly to display more information about the current D AB station. 1. DLS (Dynamic Label Segment) When tuned to a station that’ s broadcasting DLS text data, the text will scroll across the display .
21 Listening to D AB Digital Radio —Continued Scan Mode This setting determines which D AB bands are scanned by the Auto T uning function (see page 19). Use the Left and Right Arrow [ ]/[ ] b uttons to select the following options, and then press [ENTER].

23 Changing the Remote ID If the T -4555’ s remote controller interferes with other Onkyo components located in the same room, you can change the remote control ID. Y ou can select remote control ID #1, #2, or #3. By default, the remote control ID is set to #1.
24 Optional T uner Boar ds The following optional tuner boards are a vailable for the T -4555: •F or T -4555 European model: C-D AB board (AM/FM/D AB tuner) •F or T -4555 U.K. model: C-AMFM board (AM/FM tuner) Caution: • Before installing or removing a board, be sure to turn of f the T -4555 and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
25 Optional T uner Boards —Contin ued Use the Allen wrench, hexagonal socket head scre ws, remov al thumbscre ws, and so on supplied with the board. Installing a Board 1 T urn off the T -4555, and then unplug the power cor d from the wall outlet.
26 Tr oubleshooting If you hav e any trouble using the T -4555, look for a solution in this section. Can’t turn on the T -4555. • Make sure that the po wer cord is properly plugged into the wall outlet (see page 15). • Unplug the power cord from the w all outlet, wait 5 seconds or more, then plug it in again.
27 Tr oubleshooting —Continued The remote controller doesn’t w ork properl y . • Make sure the batteries ha ve been installed with the correct polarity (+/–) (see page 9). • Replace both batteries with new ones. (Do not mix dif ferent types of batteries or new and old batteries.
