1 Basic opera tion Basic operation Don’t you sometimes feel that advanced shooting and editing fu nctions are only for professional photographer s? With their experience an d skill, they can make all kinds of fine adjustments to achieve a variety of effects.
12 1 Basic opera tion Mode dial This came ra features a mode dial for select ing the camera’s mo de. The modes are div ided into shooting and p layback modes, with shooti ng mode divided i nto 7 modes. Selec t the mode you want , then press the POWER switch to turn the camera on .

56 4 Advanced sho oting funct ions ISO sensitivity The highe r the ISO value, the greater the c amera’s light sensitiv ity and the better its abil ity to shoot in l ow light con ditions. However, hi gher values also intro duce electric al noise into t he resulting image , which may give i t a grainy appearanc e.

5 More useful functi ons At a sporting event… Use movie mode to capture the atmosphere by recording the cheers and applause alon g with the action. Or use sequential shooting mode to take a succession of shots of a goal and pick out the best ones later .

77 5 More useful functions Remote control shooting (optional) This funct ion lets you ta ke pictures using the opti onal remote control device (RM-1 E). This is useful when you wa nt to tak e a pict ure with yourself i n it or a night scene without touching t he camera.
Recording sound with still pictures 78 5 More usef ul functi ons Sound can be recorded when taking still pictures. Re cording starts about 0.5 seconds afte r the shutt er is released and lasts about 4 seconds. When this function is en abled, sou nd is recorded automat ically ev ery time you take a picture.

6P l a y b a c k With film-type cameras, yo u cannot see the pictures you have taken until the film has been developed. And aren’t you sometimes disappointed with the results when you do eventually see them? Pictur es of blurred scenery or someone with their eyes shut.

92 6 Playback Recording sound Sound can be added t o a still pict ure that you have alread y taken. (Thi s is known as “after-re cording”.) You can al so re-record over th e sound that has alread y been recorded. Total recording time per picture is approximate ly 4 seconds.
