6 Installing DSS Player 2000 You need to enter the license ID that is supplied with the produc t during installation to run this softwa re. Notes - If you intend to use s peech rec ognition software, inst all it first.
7 If not currently installed on y our PC, Install Acrobat Reader. 8 W hen the Acrob at Rea der i nstallat ion d ialog box opens , choose Ins tall Adobe Acrobat Reader and c lick "Next." Note Installing Acrobat Reader allows you to v iew detailed operating instruc tions for DSS Play er 2000.
8 Uninstalling DSS Player 2000 The pr ocess of rem oving s oftware ins talled on y our PC is called unins talling. Uninstall DSS Player 2000 when it is no longer needed. Click "Star t," point to "Settings," and choose "Control Panel.

11 Let's Get Started Dow nload DSS Files The m ethod of downlo ading DS S files vari es de pending on the devic e used ( stora ge m edia and the DS-2000). Select the devic e that you are using from the following list: DS-2000 Smar t Media Card Removable Dr ive Down load DS-2000 If you are using W indows 98/2000 or W indows NT 4.
12 Download Remov able Drive Inform ation abo ut the Removab le Dri ve in t he De vice TreeVie w is not u pdated when you c onnect or disconnect the Rem ovable dr ive, unless you choose [Detect Device] in the T ools m enu or click the [Detect Device ] button on the toolbar.

14 Dictation Window Dictation Window - W hen y ou star t DSS Play er 2000, the Dictation W indow opens. Title Bar Displays the path of the active file.
15 Tool Bar [New DSS File] Starts the Remote Dictation Window and opens a new DSS file . This co mm and is valid only if the DS-2000 is connec ted to the PC at this point. [Edit DSS File] Opens th e file th at is cu rrent ly selected in the D ictati on ListVi ew (the active file if multiple files are selected) in the Rem ote Dictation W indow.
16 [Upload DSS Files] Uploads th e DSS files tha t ar e current ly sel ected in the Dict ation List View to the same fold er in the recorder o r card. You cannot upload files to a f older in the DS-150. The DSS f iles chos en in t he voic e list windo w will be u ploa ded to the device d etect ed in the d evice window.
17 [View All Index Marks] A dialog box opens. Double-c lick the tim e at the index m ark or selec t the tim e and click the [Sk ip] button to play the f ile from the s elected tim e position. In addition, y ou c an delete the time of the index m ark by selecting the tim e while play back is stopped and clic king [Delete].
18 Play back Control Bar Rewind Button The Pos ition Control is m oved back ward in f ive second incr em ents while this button is press ed. Each clic k will move the Position C ontrol back ward in one-second inc rem ents. Stop Button Stops playback. Play Button Play s the current ac tive file in the Dic tation ListView.
19 Play Bar and Position Control [Play Bar] and [Pos ition C ontrol] ar e grap hics that in dicat e the cu rrent p osition of th e file bein g played. You can quic kl y move the p layback positio n for ward or back ward b y dragg ing the [ Position Control] or clic king in f ront or bac k of the [Position Control].

21 Dictation TreeView - The voice files are listed i n a folder st ruct ure on your PC w ith Dictation Folder at the top as shown in the following figure. - Drag and drop can be applied to Download T ray Folder, Message Tr ay , and W ork T ray. Dictation Folder This is the root f older.
22 Tem p Tra y This folder c an be used accor ding to prefer ence. For ex am ple, it can be used to ar chive im portant DSS Files, to save W AV f iles, or to tem por arily store unnecessar y f iles.
23 Dev ice TreeView This is a list of devices that ar e currently connected to your PC. If there is a connection or dis connection of USB devices or PCMCIA cards while the Dictation W indow is open, the Device TreeView is im m ediately updated with the names of thos e devices.
24 DS-2000 Folder It shows the DS-2000 Folder s A/B/C, and if one of the DS-2000 f olders is selected, all the f iles of the selected f older will be displayed in the Dictation ListView. This folder accepts DSS Fi les that ar e dragge d and dro pped int o it fr om either W indows Explorer or the Dic tation ListView.
25 Right-Click Menu (Smart Media Card Folder) Rename Folder Rename the s elected f older. Download Folder A / B / C Downloads the files in F older A/B/C to the Download Tray.
26 Right-Click M enu (Removab le Drive) Download All Downloads all files in the Rem ovable Dr ive to the Download Tray. Removable Drive Folder Plus m ark will be displayed to the left side of the rem ovable dr ive when there are folder s in the rem ovable drive.
27 Dictation ListView The Dic tation ListView is the m ain interf ace fo r the DSS Player 2000. The lis t view displays detailed information about f olders and s torage m edia that are selec ted with Dictation TreeView or Dic tation Device T reeView Device T reeView and all DSS and WAVE files that are in the Digital Voice Recor der.
28 Detail of Items That A re Display ed on the Header B ar Displayed Items Details Priority. Y ou can s et a priority in the Remote Dictation W indow. DSS file: For high prior ity f iles, the item s are dis played in red. W AVE file: Not display ed. File Nam e File name.
29 Edit Item Name You can edit which items are displayed using [Item Settings ] on the View menu. T he Dictation Lis tView shows the specif ied num ber of item s . If the items do not fit in the width of the Dic tation ListView, a horizontal scroll bar is displayed.
30 Dictation Window Commands File Menu New DSS File Starts the R emote Dictation Window and opens a ne w DSS file. This c omm and is inva lid if th e DS-2000 is not connec ted to the PC.
31 Edit Menu Copy Copies the f iles that are c urrently sele cted in the Dictation ListView to the clipboard . Paste Pastes the DSS o r WA VE f iles that are c urrently copied to the c lipboard . You can paste the files to f olders that ac cept drag and drop oper ation, or the Dictation Lis tView.
32 View Menu Current View Switches the file dis play in the Dictation ListView. Selected Item Files Displayed in the Dictat ion ListView DSS Files DSS Files O nly W AV Files W AVE Files On ly All Files Both DSS files and W AVE files A check m ark is plac ed beside the curr ently selected display mode.
33 Tools Menu Detect Device Updates the information about devices that cannot be automatically detected . If a new device is detec ted, it is shown in the Device T reeView. Rename DS-2000 Folder You can ren ame the fold er names of Fol der A , B, and C in the DS-2000 Fo lder.
34 Because an em bedded obj ect actu ally b ecom es a par t of the tar get f ile, the file size of the tar get f ile will be larger than link ed objects .
35 Dow nload Menu Download Folder A Down loads the DSS f iles in Fold er A of the DS- 2000, DS-150/320, Sm art Media Card, or Removable Dri ve (with a displa yed folder ) to Folder A of the Download Tray .
36 A uthor ID It is possible to c reate and send up 10 dif ferent Author Id’s to the DS-2000. Here, the f ollowing character s can be used. Number '0' – '9' A lphabet 'A ' – 'Z' Underscore '_' Moreover, capital letter s m ust be us ed.
37 Voice Recognition Menu Start Voic e Recognition This com m and is activated only when IBM's voice recognition applic ation such as ViaVoice98, ViaVoice Millennium , or later ver sions of these applications are installed.
38 Remote Dicta tion Window Remote Dictation Window - The Rem ote Dictati on W indow opens when you create a Ne w DSS Fi le or E dit DS S File f rom the file m enu in the Dictation W indow.
39 Tool Bar [New] Creates a new DSS file in the Mes sage Tr ay. [Save] Saves th e fil e that is currently being edited in the Messag e Fold er . If you ope n and e dit a D SS file f rom a folder other than the Message T ray folder in the Dictation W indow, the edited data is saved to the Message Tr ay with the sam e f ile name.
40 [End] Ends the editing of the DS S file and returns to the Dictation Window . If the f ile being edited is not saved, a dialog box appears for you to select whether to save or dis card the changes .
41 Position Indicator Displays the time of the current pos ition (HH:MM:SS Form at) dur ing recording, playback, or while changing the playback position. Length Indicator W hile Play ing Displays the recording length. W hile Recording Displays the available recording length of the file.
42 Recording Modes Click to switch the quality of the recording between SP (Standard Mode) and LP (Long Mode) . DSS Fi les whos e record ing m ode is S P and s ensit ivit y control is DICT can b e transcr ibed to text autom atically by using the Voic e Recognition option.

44 Time A xis and Time A xis Control Slider Tim e Axis is displa yed below the pla y bar with the same width as the play bar. You can change the scale of the Tim e Ax is by mov ing the T ime Ax is Control Slider k nob up and down. T he t ype of Tim e Ax i s var ies depending on the recor ding length.
45 Volume Control Slider If your sound card suppor ts electronic volum e control, y ou c an use the [Volum e Control Slider] to adj ust the output volum e on the sound car d. By s electing (c lick ing) the [Volum e Control Slider], y ou c an also adjust the volum e us ing the arrow k ey s .
46 Remote Dictation Commands File Menu New Creates a new DSS file in the M essage T ray. Save Saves the f ile that is cur rently being edited in th e Messag e Folder . If you open and edit a DSS file f rom a folder other than the Message T ray folder in the Dictation Window , the edited data is saved to the Message Tr ay with the sam e f ile name.

50 Trouble Shooting No Sound Check the connection Check that the device is connec ted to your PC and that the pow er is ON. Check the speaker Check that the speak er volum e is not set to the m inim um setting. If there is no problem , continue. Check the sound card Check whether a manual dial k nob volum e contr ol is present on your sound car d.
51 [Windows 2000] From the W indows [Start] m enu, select Settings, Control Panel, Sound and MultiMedia, Audio, Master Check that the vol um e of [Master ] and [W ave] are no t set to t he m inimum setting and that [Mute] check box is not selected. ( Play W AVE File) .
