8 CHECKING P ACKED COMPONENTS AND ACCESSORIES Open the carton an d check if the followi ng compo nents and acce ssories are include d. If anythi ng is not inclu ded or is damag ed, co ntact you r autho rized Se rvice represent ative.
9 2 2 Remove all pieces of tape shown in the illustration below. T hen open the o riginal cover/SPF and remove prot ective materials. After that, take out the bag conta i ning the power cord and TD cartridge. SCAN HEAD LOCKING SWITCH The scan hea d locking swi tch is under the or iginal tabl e.
10 INST ALLING THE TD CARTRID GE 1 Open the side cover. 2 Push gently on both sides of th e front co ver to open the cover. 3 Remove the TD cartridge from the bag. Hold the cartridge on both sides and shake it horizont ally four or five times. Hold the tab of the protective cover and pull the tab to your side to remove th e cover.
11 2 5 Close the fro nt cover and then the side cover by pressing the round projections nea r th e side cover open button. When closing the co vers, be sure to clo se the fron t cover securel y and the n close the side c over . If the co vers a re closed in the wrong orde r , the covers may be damage d.
12 CONNECTING THE POW E R CORD 1 Ensure t hat the power s witch of the unit is in the OFF position. Insert the attach ed pow er cord into the power cord so cket at the rear of the unit. 2 Plug the other end of t he power cord into the nearest outlet. Power on Ensure that th e po we r swit ch of the unit is in the O FF po si tion .
13 2 About the scan head The scan head lamp rem ains on c onstantly when t he unit is in the ready conditio n (when th e Start indi cator i s illumina ted). The unit a djusts the sc an hea d lamp pe riodic ally to m aintain c opying q uality . At thi s time, the scan head mov es autom atica lly.
14 Follow the steps below to l oad paper i nto the tray. P APER For best re sults, use onl y pape r recommend ed by OLIVETTI . * Do not use no n-standard envelop es, and envel opes tha t have m etal cl asps, p lastic snappers , strin g closu res, window s, lini ngs, self -adhesive, patc hes or sy ntheti c material s.
15 3 LOADING THE P APER TRA Y 1 Raise the handle of the paper tray and pull the paper tray out un til it stops. 2 Remove the pressure plate lock. Rotate th e pressure plate lock in the direction of the arrow to remove it w hile pressing down the pres sure plate of t he paper tray.
16 5 Fan the paper and insert it into the tray. Make sure the edges go under the corner hooks. 6 Gently push the paper tray back into th e unit. Do not l oad p aper ab ove the m aximum height line ( ). Exceed ing the line will cause a paper m isfe ed.
17 3 BYP ASS F EED (including special p aper) The singl e bypass can be use d to feed st andard paper, tr an sparency f ilm, la bels, enve lopes, and othe r speci al p urpo se pa per . Pap er me asuri ng from A6 to A4/Leg al an d in the wei gh t ra nge of 52 to 12 8g/m 2 can be used in t his tray.

21 4 INST ALLING THE SOFTW ARE The follo wing term is used i n this section. MFP Means t he uni t as a prin ter and scanner. Installing onto Windows XP (U SB/paral lel interface) Before sta rting th e inst allation, make sure the USB o r paral lel interfa ce cable is not connect ed to the MFP.
22 5 Review the software packa ges to be installed on the screen , and then click the "Start" button . The software package s to be installe d will be displa yed on th e screen. If inap propriate packa ges are d isplayed , click the "Back " button to sele ct appropriate packag es again.
23 4 7 Begin installation of the B utton Manager (This step w ill start if it was selec ted in step 4). 1 After confir ming the m essage in the "Wel come" window, c lick the "Next" button. 2 Read the message in the "Please rea d the followi ng informa tion.

25 4 Installing onto Windows 98/Me /2000 (USB interface) Before sta rting th e inst allation, make sure the U SB interfac e cable is not conne cted to the MFP. 1 Insert the supplied CD -ROM into your CD-ROM drive . 2 Double-click "My Computer" ( ), and then double-click the CD-ROM ( ) icon.

32 USING THE PRIN TER M OD E Opening the printer driver from the start menu Open the printer dri ver se tup scree n by eith er of the methods shown below. 1 Click the "start" button. 2 Click "Control Panel", select "Printers and Other Hardware", and then click " Printers and Faxes.
33 4 How to print 1 Make sure that the paper of the desi red size and type is loaded in the tray. The procedure for loading paper is the sa me as for loadi ng copier papier. See "LOADING PAPER" (p.14 ). 2 Open the document you intend to print, and select "P rint " from the application's "File " menu.
34 USING THE SCA NNER MODE The scan ner driver for this un it includes an STI (Still image) driv er and WIA (Window s Image Acqu isiti on) driver. You can install software that supp orts the STI driver an d WIA dri ver to e nable sc annin g using t he ope ration p anel of th e unit.
35 4 Windows 98/Me/2000 To scan direct ly int o an appli catio n using th e Button Manager on Win dows 98 , Window s Me and Windows 20 00. Set the Event M anage r properties to se nd only t o Button Manager a s shown below.

48 Setting a large origin al (12 cpm model only) The ori ginal cover can be remo ved to all ow copying o f bulk y obj ects. 1 Simply lift the origina l cover straight up.
49 5 Stream f eeding mode The strea m feed ing mode allows easy op eration of contin uous c opying f rom the SPF. If the s tream f eeding m ode has b een enabled usi ng user p rogram No.4, the SPF ( ) indic ator will blink ap proxima tely 5 seconds after th e last ori ginal has been fed by the SPF.

65 8 A: Misf eed in the pa per feed a rea 1 Gently re move the misfed pap er from the pa p er feed area as shown in the illustration. When blinks in the displa y and the misfed paper is not seen from the paper feed area, pull out the paper tray a nd remove the misfed pape r.
