5 1 A quick look P ack age con tents • If any of the items is damaged or missing , contact ASUS for technical inquiries and suppor t. Refer to the ASUS Support Hotline list at the back of this user manual. • Keep the original packaging material in case you would need future warranty services such as repair or replacement.
6 Y our ADSL router T OP features Po wer LED Off : No power . On: Device is ready . Flashing slowly: Rescue mode Flashing quickly: WPS in progress / Restore to default settings . ADSL LED Off : No ADSL link or unable to establish ADSL link. Flashing : ADSL is initializing / waiting for initializing.

8 Reset button This button resets or rest ores the system to its factor y default settings. Po wer switch Press t o power on or off the system. Po wer (DC-In) por t Insert the bundled AC adapter into this port and connect your router to a power source .
9 2 Crea ting your netw ork P ositioning your rout er T o get the best wireless network per formance from your wir eless router , follow the recommendations belo w : • Place the wireless r outer at the center of your netw ork for maximum wireless co verage .
10 Wha t you need T o set up your network, you need one or two computers that meet the following sy stem requirements: • Ethernet RJ-45 (LAN) por t (10Base-T/100Base-T X) • IEEE 802.
11 C onnec ting your de vices Wired c onnec tion T o set up your ADSL router using a wired c onnec tion: 1. Insert the splitter ’ s line connector to the phone outlet and connect your phone into the phone port. 2. Using the bundled phone cable , connect your DSL-N10_C1’ s ADSL por t to the splitter’ s DSL port.
12 Before y ou proceed Before configuring y our wireless router , apply the steps described in this section to each computer on the network to av oid problems connecting to the wireless network. A. Disable any c onfigured pro x y ser vers . Windo ws ® 7 1.
13 3. F rom the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window , uncheck Use a pro x y ser ver f or your LAN . 4. Click OK then Apply . MA C OSX 1. F rom your Apple Safari browser , click Safari > Prefer ences > Adv anced . On the Pro xies item, click Change Settings .

16 1. Ensure that the ADSL LED on the DSL-N10_C1 front panel is on and not flashing or off . 2. Launch your web br owser . The QIS (Quick Install Setup) web page appears automatically and starts detecting your connection type.
17 3 Netw ork c onguration using the w eb GUI Logging in to the w eb GUI (Graphical User Inter face) Y our ASUS Wireless Router uses a web-based user interface that allows you t o configure the router using any w eb browser such as Internet Explorer , Mozilla Fir efox, Apple Safari, or G oogle Chrome .

19 Setting up the wireless security settings T o protect your wireless network from unauthorized access , you need to configure its security settings. T o set up the wireless security settings: 1. Key in http://router .asus.com or http://192.168.1.1 on y our web bro wser .
20 4. On the Wireless name (SSID) field , key in a unique name for your wireless netw ork. 5. F rom the Authentication Method dropdown list , select the encr yption method for y our wireless network. The IEEE 802.11n standard prohibits using High Thr oughput with WEP or WP A-TKIP as the unicast cipher .
21 Managing your netw ork clients T o manage your network clients: 1. Launch the wireless router’ s web GUI. 2. On the Network Map screen, select the Client Status icon to display inf or mation about your network clients .
22 Using the T raffic Manager Managing QoS (Quality of S ervice) Bandwidth The Quality of Ser vice (QoS) allows you t o set the bandwidth priority and manage the net work traffic . T o set up the band width priority: 1. Launch the wireless router’ s web GUI.
23 Monitoring T raffic The traffic monitor function allows y ou to assess the bandwidth usage and speed of your Internet , LAN, Wired c onnec tions..
24 C onfiguring the Adv anced settings The Adv anced Settings items allows you t o configure the advanc ed features of y our wireless router . Setting up the DHCP Ser ver Y ou may enable the DHCP Ser v er function in your wireless router so your network clients can automa tically obtain IP addresses from your wir eless router .

26 T o up grade the firmwar e: 1. Click Administr ation from the navigation panel. 2. Click the F irmware Upgrade tab . 3. In the New F irmware File it em, click Bro wse . 27 Restoring/Saving/U ploading settings T o restore/sav e/upload wireless router settings: 1. Click Administr ation on the navigation panel. 2. Click the Restore/Sa ve/Upload Setting tab . 3. Select a task from the configuration options: • T o restore to default factory settings, click Restore , and click OK once prompted .
28 4 U sing the utilities • Install the wireless router's utilities fr om the bundled suppor t CD . • If Autorun is disabled , run setup .ex e from the root directory of the suppor t CD . When you set the rout er to Access P oint mode, you need to use Device Discov er y to get the router ’ s IP address.
29 F irmware Restor ation F ir mware Restor ation is used on an ASUS Wireless Router after a failed firmware upgrade . This utility uploads a firmware file to the wireless router . The process takes about three to f our minutes. T olaunchrescuemodeandusetheFirmwareRestoration utility: 1.

If you have r egistered for the ASUS DDNS service but need to ex change devices at the ser vice center , inform the ser vice cent er that you wan t to keep the original domain name and retain the DDNS service.
