BM6AE(MD780) front panel 1. 2 x 5.25 inch optical disk drive bays. The 5.25 inch optical disk drive bays are for 5.25 inch DVD-ROM / CD-RW / DVD-R W devices. 2. Microphone port (pink). This port connects to a microphone. 3. Headphone port (lime). This port connects to a headphone or speaker .
BM6AE(MD780) rear panel 3. PS/2 mouse port (green) . This port is for a PS/2 mouse. 4. PS/2 keyboard port (purple) . This port is for a PS/2 keyboard. 5. DisplayPort. This port connects a display monitor or home-theater system. DisplayPort cannot be converted to DVI and HDMI.
7. USB 3.0 ports. These Universal Serial Bus 3.0 (USB 3.0) ports connect to USB 3.0 devices such as a mouse, printer , scanner , camera, PDA, and others. • DO NOT connect a keyboard / mouse to any USB 3.0 port when installing Windows ® operating system.

Setting up your computer This section guides you through connecting the main hardware devices, such as the external monitor , keyboard, mouse, and power cord, to your computer . Using the onboard display output ports Connect your monitor to the onboard display output port.
If your computer comes with an ASUS Graphics Card, the graphics card is set as the primary display device in the BIOS. Hence, connect your monitor to a display output port on the graphics card.

In normal circumstances, the default BIOS settings apply to most conditions to ensure optimal performance.
Connecting a USB storage device This desktop PC provides USB 2.0/1.1 and USB 3.0 ports on both the front and rear panels. The USB ports allow you to connect USB devices such as storage devices. T o connect a USB storage device: • Insert the USB storage device to your computer .

Using the optical drive (on selected models only) Inserting an optical disc T o insert an optical disc: 1. While your system is on, press the eject button below the drive bay cover to open the tray . 2. Place the disc to the optical drive with the label side facing up.
Conguring the USB ports using the BIOS Y ou can enable or disable the front and rear USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports from the BIOS Setup. T o disable or enable the front and rear USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports: 1. Press <Delete> to enter the BIOS Setup at startup.
Conguring the HDD security setting using the BIOS Y ou can set a password in the BIOS Setup to protect your HDD. T o set a password for your HDD from the BIOS Setup: 1. Press <Delete> to enter the BIOS Setup at startup. 2. From the BIOS Setup EZ Mode screen, click Exit > Advanced Mode .
Connecting via a DSL/cable modem T o connect via a DSL/cable modem: 1. Set up your DSL/cable modem. Wired connection Use an RJ-45 cable to connect your computer to a DSL/cable modem or a local area network (LAN). 2. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN (RJ-45) port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to a DSL/cable modem.
3. T urn on the DSL/cable modem and your computer. 4. Congure the necessary Internet connection settings. • For more details, refer to the section Conguring the network connection . • Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for details or assistance in setting up your Internet connection.
Connecting via a local area network (LAN) T o connect via a LAN: 1. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN (RJ-45) port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to your LAN.
2. T urn on your computer. 3. Congure the necessary Internet connection settings. • For more details, refer to the section Conguring the network connection . • Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for details or assistance in setting up your Internet connection.
Conguring the network connection Conguration options on Windows ® 7 Conguring a dynamic IP/PPPoE network connection T o congure a dynamic IP/PPPoE network connection: 1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center . 2. From the Network and Sharing Center screen, click Change Adapter settings .
Continue to the next steps if you are using PPPoE connection. 9. Select Connect to the Internet and click Next . 8. Return to the Network and Sharing Center and then click Set up a new connection or network . 10. Select Broadband (PPPoE) and click Next .
1 1. Enter your User name and, Password, and Connection name. Click Connect . 12. Click Close to nish the conguration. 13. Click the network icon in the taskbar and click the connection you just created. 14. Enter your user name and password. Click Connect to connect to the Internet.
Conguration options on Windows ® 8 Conguring a dynamic IP/PPPoE network connection T o congure a dynamic IP/PPPoE network connection: 1. From the Start screen, click Desktop to launch the Desktop mode. 2. From the Windows ® taskbar , right-click the network icon and click Open Network and Sharing Center .
6. Click Obtain an IP address automatically and click OK . Continue to the next steps if you are using PPPoE connection. 8. Select Connect to the Internet and click Next . 7. Return to the Network and Sharing Center and then click Set up a new connection or network .
9. Select Broadband (PPPoE) and click Next . 10. Enter your User name and, Password, and Connection name. Click Connect . 1 1. Click Close to nish the conguration. 12. Click the network icon in the taskbar and click the connection you just created.
ASUS AI Suite II ASUS AI Suite II is an all-in-one interface that integrates several ASUS utilities and allows users to launch and operate these utilities simultaneously . Using AI Suite II AI Suite II automatically starts when you enter the Windows ® operating system.
The T ool menu The T ool menu includes the EPU, Probe II, and Sensor Recorder panels. Launching and conguring EPU EPU is an energy-efcient tool that provides you with a total power-saving solution. It detects the current loading and intelligently adjusts the power usage in real-time.
Launching and conguring Probe II Probe II is a utility that monitors the computer’s vital components, and detects and alerts you of any problem with these components. Probe II senses fan rotations, CPU temperature, and system voltages, among others.
Launching and conguring Sensor Recorder Sensor Recorder allows you to monitor the changes in the system voltage, temperature, and fan speed, as well as recording the changes. T o launch Sensor Recorder: • Click T oo l > Sensor Recorder on the AI Suite II main menu bar .
Launching Sensor The Sensor panel displays the current value of a system sensor such as fan rotation, CPU displays the current value of a system sensor such as fan rotation, CPU temperature, and voltages. T o launch Sensor: • Click Monitor > Sensor on the AI Suite II main menu bar .
Updating the BIOS through a BIOS le T o update the BIOS through a BIOS le: 1. From the ASUS Update screen, select Update BIOS from le , then click Next .
The System Information screen The System Information screen displays the information about the motherboard, CPU, and memory slots. • Click the MB tab to see the details on the motherboard manufacturer , product name, version, and BIOS. • Click the CPU tab to see the details on the processor and the Cache.

• MySyncFolder Allows you to store your les to MySyncFolder for easy access and sharing without the limitation of location or storage space. • Calendar ASUS WebStorage automatically synchronizes your calendar events to all your computers to allow you to browse through your calendar from any of your computers.
Launching WebStorage on W indows ® 8 Do either of the following to launch WebStorage on Windows ® 8: • Click the ASUS WebStorage icon on the Windows ® notication area. • Click the ASUS WebStorage icon from the Start screen. Using WebStorage cloud service • T o access your les online, ensure that you have an ASUS W ebStorage account.
Adding les to MySyncFolder T o add les to MySyncFolder: 1. Right-click on the screen to launch the settings bar . 2. Click then select the action that you want to do: a. Click Note taking to take down notes. b. Click Snapshot to take photos. c. Click Video record to record videos.
Backed-up Data This folder allows you to open the les that you backed up from your computer . It also allows you to tag les as favorites and share les via e-mail or link via ASUS WebStorage site. • ASUS WebStorage registers your computer’s name and will reect to your Backed-up Data folder as the name of your backed-up folder .
My Collection This folder allows you to upload your favorite contents without the need of syncing them with your computer . It also allows you to take notes, pictures, videos and record audios and upload directly to this folder . Uploading les T o upload les: 1.
Customizing contents in My Collection folder Y ou can customize your contents in this folder like rename, tag as favorites, share via e-mail or link via ASUS WebStorage site. T o customize your contents in My Collection folder: 1. Right-click on the le or folder to select and launch the settings bar .
Starred This folder allows you to easily access and view contents that you have tagged as favorites. Y ou can also remove the contents from this folder . Removing a le or folder T o remove a le or folder: 1. Click to launch Starred folder . 2. Right-click on the le or folder to select and launch the settings bar .
Recent changes This folder allows you to view the contents saved in MySyncFolder , Backed-up Data and My Collection folders . It also allows you to customize the recent contents like rename, delete, tag as favorite and share via e-mail or link via ASUS WebStorage site.
Recent photos This folder allows you to view the photos saved in MySyncFolder , Backed-up Data and My Collection folders . It also allows you to customize the recent photos like rename, delete, tag as favorite and share via e-mail or link via ASUS WebStorage site.
Recent music This folder allows you to view the music les saved in Backed-up Data and My Collection folders. It also allows you to customize the music les like rename, delete, tag as favorite and share via e-mail or link via ASUS WebStorage site.
My shared link This folder allows you to view and access the contents that you linked in ASUS WebStorage site. Y ou can only customize links saved in MySyncFolder and My Collection folders. Viewing shared links T o view shared links: 1. Click to launch My shared link folder .
ASUS Easy Update ASUS Easy Update is a software tool that automatically detects the latest drivers and applications for your system. 1. From the Windows ® notication area, right-click the ASUS Easy Update icon. 2. Select Schedule to set how often you want to update your system.
ASUS Secure Delete ASUS Secure Delete makes deleted les completely irrecoverable via a simple drag-and- drop interface, thus enhancing your data security .
4. T ick Delete the les listed in the recycle bin if you want to permanently delete all the les in the recycle bin. 5. Click Clear , and then click OK on the conrmation message to permanently delete all the les listed in the deletion box and the recycle bin (if selected in step 3).
ASUS Business Suite 2.0 ASUS Business Suite 2.0 is a collection of applications that help you obtain maximum performance of your business PC. It integrates the following Intel ® and ASUS utilities: .
Icons Descriptions Intel ® SBA utilities Energy Saver Energy Saver allows you to schedule your computer to enter the sleep state at the end of your workday and wake up at the start of your workday . This helps greatly reduce energy costs and improve productivity of your business.
Nero Essentials Nero Essentials allows you to create, copy , burn, edit, share, and update different kinds of data. Installing Nero Essentials T o install Nero Essentials: 1. Insert the Nero Essentials DVD into your optical drive. 2. If Autorun is enabled, the main menu appears automatically .
Recovering your system Recovery options on Windows ® 7 Using the system recovery partition The system recovery partition quickly restores your Desktop PC’s software to its original working state.
4. Select OK to conrm the system recovery . Restoring will overwrite your hard drive. Ensure to back up all your important data before the system recovery .
T o reset your PC by using Recovery DVD: • Back up all your data before using this option. • Disconnect all external hard disk drives before performing system recovery on your Desktop PC to avoid restoring Windows on the wrong partition or drive. 1.
5. Select the USB storage device where you want to copy the recovery les. 6. Click Next . 7. Click Create . W ait for a while for the process to complete. 8. When the process is completed, click Finish . 3. Click Recovery > Create a recovery drive .
Removing everything and reinstalling Windows Restoring your PC to its original factory settings can be done using the Remove everything and reinstall option in PC Settings. Refer to the steps below to use this option. Back up all your data before using this option.
