Setting up the handset 12 Setting up the handset Before you use the handset, it is im port ant that yo u read the sa fety information an d perform the following steps: 1. Install the charger. 2. Install the batteries. 3. Charge the batteries. 4. Subsc ribe the handset to the DECT s ystem.
Setting up the handset 13 Your handset is ope rational only after th e batteries have been charg ed. You can then use the handset to make and receive calls.
Setting up the handset 14 Installing the batteries The batt ery compar tment is on th e ba ck of the handset. It takes the three type AAA batteries that are supplied. Pl ease refer to “I mportant battery information” on page 15. Figure 1 illustrates how to insert ba tteries in the DECT Handset 4025.
Setting up the handset 15 Impor tant battery information Heat or cold reduces the perfor mance and service life of th e batteries. It is possible that a h andset with hot o r cold batteries can be temporarily out of operation even if the batteries a re fully charged.
Setting up the handset 16 Char ging guidelines • Charge th e batteries for at lea st six to seven hours before using the handset for the first tim e. This prot ective measur e extends the service life of the batteries. • The maximum po wer output is atta ined only after three to five charging and dischargin g cycles.
Setting up the handset 17 three short “beep” signa ls (only during a call). This ind icates that approximately five minu tes of talk time remains. See Figure 2 for battery charge status definitio ns.

Handset controls 24 Soft key line Soft keys are located below the ha ndset display screen.The functions allocated to the keys are shown on th e bottom line of the display, as illustrated in Figure 4. The key func tions c hange automatically according to the operation st ate of the handset.
Handset controls 25 Esc sof t key Use the Esc soft key to quit the current menu selection. The selection of the previous men u branch or the curren t idle/connection display is shown. Press the Esc soft k ey for approximately tw o se conds to quit th e present menu and return to the idle disp lay.
Handset controls 26 Handset illumination The display is automatically illuminat ed when there is an incoming call or a key is pressed. The display illuminat ion automatically s witches off after ten seconds if no key is pressed. Key Lock Use the Key Lock feature to disa ble key input and prevent any accidental operation.

To store an SOS number, see “Set ting the Emergency Ca ll SOS number” on page 52. Answering a call When the ringer so unds and the call alert w s ymbol flashes, th ere is an incoming call.
Calling features 30 Adjusting the earpiece/speaker volume Muting the handset during a call T ransferring a call Use this option to consult another caller during a connection (enquir y call). During a call, you can change the volume of the earpiece or speaker with the arrow ke ys.
Using Voice Mail 31 Using V oice Mail Use the Voice Mail feature to list en to voice messages left by calling parties. New voice messages ar e indicated by: •T h e V (Voice Mail) symbol flashes on the display scre en (the symbol disappe ars after the vo ice message is played).

You can store a maxim um of nine Quick Call numbers, on e each for the nine keys on the keypad. Quick Call n umbers are assigned to phon e numbers already stored in the Telephone Book.

System 57 System Before you can make a te lephone call using the DECT handset, the handset must be subscribed to a DECT system . The handset can be operated with a maximum of five DECT systems. Note: When the handset is not yet subscribed to the system, the display shows “ Please, subscribe”.
System 58 Manually selecting the DECT system If the handset has been subscribed to several DECT systems, use this option to select which syst em the handset will use.

Security functions 64 Resetting the handset Use Handset Reset to return all settings to the delivery sta te, with the exception of the T elephone Book, the PIN and system re gistrations. Clearing the T elephone Book Use this option to permanently de lete all telephone entries.
