Setting up the handset 9 Setting up the handset Before you use the handset, it is im port ant that yo u read the safety information and perfor m the following steps: • Installing the charger • “Charging the ba tteries” on page 11 Installing the char ger Place the charger on a flat, even surf ace.
Setting up the handset 10 Your handset can be used to make and receive calls only after you charge the batteries. Installing the batter y pack You must ins tall the batt ery pack be fore you ca n use your handset. 1. Make sure the handset is switched off.

Heat or cold reduces the performance and se rvice life of the batte ries. It is possible that a handse t with hot or cold batteries can be temporarily ou t of operation even if the batteries are fully char ged.
Setting up the handset 12 • To maintain optimum o perating time , discharg e the batt eries from time to time by leaving the handset off the charger and switched on, until it switche s itself off. Do not use an y other method to dis charge the batteries.

Handset controls 14 Switching the handset on or off Use the right soft key to switch the hands et on or off, as follows: Keys and display The handset has three ma jor display areas, as shown in Figure 3. Figure 3: 4065R display Press the Handsfree/ Transfer/Info key to: • activate Handsfree (hold down the key until a dial- tone sounds).
Handset controls 15 Icon/text line The function of this line changes as follows: • During a telephone call or while in idle mode, the Icon/text line displays the current status of the handset. • When using the menus, the Icon/text line displays the name of the active menu .
Handset controls 16 In the idle state, the display show s the name of the DECT system, the programmed user name (as you entered it, see page 7 3), the internal telephone number (if programmed). During a call the display is updated with the caller lin e IDs and/or calling party name d isplay (CPND) , and call du ration time r.
Handset controls 17 Right soft key Two functions are ava ilable on the right soft key, d epending on how long you hold the key. Use the right so ft key for either of the following: OK soft key Options sof t key Esc sof t key Redial sof t key During a call, press the arrow keys to increase or decrease t he receiver or loudspeaker volume.
Handset controls 18 Dialp ad unlock Automatic Hide Menus are automatically hidd en when: • you receive a call while your phone is in the idle or call state.

Calling features 22 T o edit a number in predial mode: Note: When predialling, if the input cursor is positioned after the telephone number , the new digits ar e inserted at the end of that telephone number . If the input cursor is positioned at any other po int, the new dig its are inserted in front of th e insertion point.
Calling features 23 Note: When the Handsfre e function is active, the hook icon is replaced by the loudspeaker icon ( = ). For best results: • Place the hand set upright on a smoo th, flat surfac e, leaving the loudspeaker and microphone free of obstr uction.

Calling features 25 Rejecting a call Note: The call is diverted to your voice mail system (if configured). Changing settings during a call During a call, you can adjust the Earpiece or Handsfree speaker volume and mute the handset.
Calling features 26 T ransferring a call Use this option to transfer a call, or to conference in a third party. 1. Press th e Transf er key to put the first caller on hold. The letter R is displayed on the bottom line of the display, and a special dia l tone soun ds.
Using Voice Mail 27 Using V oice Mail Use the Voice Mail feature to list en to voice messages left by calling parties. Note: Contact your system adminis trator to det ermine if V oice Mail is available on your system.
Using Voice Mail 28 3. Choose one of the following: • Press the OK soft key. • Press the Hook key. The Voice Mail access number is automatically dialled, and your voice box number and password are automatically ente red. Note: Press the Esc k ey at any time to cancel this procedure.
Using Text Messaging 29 Using T ext Messaging You can send and receive text me ssages using the DECT Handset 4065R wh enever the phone is connected to the DECT system, even during a call.

Using Text Messaging 34 Urgent and Normal messages The system differentiates betwe en ur gent and normal messag es, which are signalled in different ways on the handset. The signa lling of normal and urgent m essages is effected by means of different ringer melodies (refer to “ Adjusting Rin ger Settings” on page 5 4).
Using Text Messaging 35 signalling process. If you receive an urgent message during a call, a repeated alert ton e sounds. Receipt confirmation You must confirm the receipt of an urgent message. When an urgent message is not confirmed withi n 60 seconds, a message is sent to the initiator, indi cating that the me ssage has not be en delivered.

Using the Telephone Book 40 Deleting an entry or deleting all entries Use these steps to delete entries from th e Telephone Book: Add to filter You can use the Caller Filtering list to store number s you want to block, or to store nu mbers from w hich you w ant to ac cept calls.
Using the Telephone Book 41 You can store a maximum of nine Qu ick Call numbers, one each for the nine keys on the dialpad. Quick Call nu mbers are assigned to phone numbers al ready stored in the Tele phone Book . To learn how to make a call using Quick Call, see “Using Quick Call” on page 22.
Using the Telephone Book 42 T ransferring phone numbers to the T elephone Book You can transfer any nu mber in the Redial List or Caller List to the Telephone Book. Using the Redial List 43 Using the Redial List The Redial List stores th e last thirty parties dialle d, with the m ost recent entry at the top of the list.
Using the Redial List 44 T ransferring a number to the T elephone Book Use this option to transfer any numbe r from the Redial List to the Telephone Book, where th e number is treated as a new entry. 1. Press th e Redial soft key. 2. Press th e arrow keys to scroll and highlight a telephone number.

Using the Caller List 46 Using the Caller List The Caller List automatica lly stores a maximum of 30 a ccepted or missed calls; numbers are stored only if the incoming call number is tra nsmitted. After 30 entries are stored in the Caller List, each additional call overwrites the oldest entry.

You can stor e up to ten phone numbers in the Caller Filter list. When the Caller Filter fu nction is active, a filter icon ( t ) appears on the display.

Telephone Options 60 Configuring the User Name Use the User Name option to store a name that appea rs on the idle display. The name can consist of a maximum 16 ch aracters. For help on using the d ialpad to en ter charac ters, see “Dia lpad layout ” on page 36 .
Telephone Options 61 Configuring the Emergenc y Call SOS n umber and message Emergency Call allows you to dial a number or send a text me ssage in the event of an em ergency. Use the Emergency Call menu o ption to store an SOS number and text me ssage.
Telephone Options 62 Configuring Mandown Call The DECT Handset 4065R is equipped with Mandown detection using a tilt switch on the ha ndset. Activate to deactiva te Mandown usin g the in the Mandown Ca ll option in the Teleph one Option s menu, or press the s hortcut Menu 6 .
Telephone Options 63 • Delay timer — The Delay time is th e time that must elapse before mandown is activated. During this time th e handset display remains in normal mode. There is no aler t/attention tone. If the handset returns to the vertical p osition dur ing this time, the Delay timer is de- activated.
Telephone Options 64 Note 1: If the handset is reset, the mandown function is deactivated. However , the SOS number and message text for the mandown call are not de leted. If th e handset is switched off, the st ored mando wn configuration rema ins unchanged.

When this option is activated ( o ), the phon e displays the text Silent Charging when placed on the charger.
Telephone Options 67 Activating or deacti vating Charger Answer Activate Char ger Answer if you want to be able to a nswer incom ing calls by lifting the handset out of the charger. End the call and resu me charging by returning th e handset to the char ger.
Telephone Options 68 Activating or Deactivating Auto Answer Use the Auto Answer feat ure to configure th e handset to automatically answer an incoming call afte r two ringer alerts sound. The Auto Answer function only works when the headse t is connected.

Configuring DECT system information 71 Configuring DECT system information Before you can make a te lephone call using the DECT handset, the handset must be su bscribed to a DECT syste m. The handset ca n be operated with a maximum of ten DECT systems.
Configuring DECT system information 72 Note: If your handset is preinstalled by yo ur supplier , you need not subscribe to a system. If the handset is not subscribed to any systems, it displays the message No Subscription . The handset can be subscribe d to up to ten different communications systems, for which it stores a subscr ip tion record.

Manually selecting the DECT system If the handset is s ubscribed to several DECT sy stems, use this option to select which system the handset uses. 6. Use the d ialpad to enter the PARK code at the PARK prompt and pr ess the OK soft key.
Configuring DECT system information 74 Enabling automatic DECT system selection If the handset is sub scribed to several DECT systems and the auto search function is enabled ( o ), the handset auto ma tically selects the nearest system.

An important point after buying a device Nortel Networks 4065R (or even before the purchase) is to read its user manual. We should do this for several simple reasons:
If you have not bought Nortel Networks 4065R yet, this is a good time to familiarize yourself with the basic data on the product. First of all view first pages of the manual, you can find above. You should find there the most important technical data Nortel Networks 4065R - thus you can check whether the hardware meets your expectations. When delving into next pages of the user manual, Nortel Networks 4065R you will learn all the available features of the product, as well as information on its operation. The information that you get Nortel Networks 4065R will certainly help you make a decision on the purchase.
If you already are a holder of Nortel Networks 4065R, but have not read the manual yet, you should do it for the reasons described above. You will learn then if you properly used the available features, and whether you have not made any mistakes, which can shorten the lifetime Nortel Networks 4065R.
