5 Handling, safet y , and environmental guidelines Before installin g your GBIC, read the following handling, safety , and envi ronm ental g ui del ines: • GBICs are static sens itive . T o prevent damag e from electrostat ic discharge (ESD), follow your no rmal board and compo nen t handl in g procedur es.
6 2 V erify that the GBIC i s the correct model for your network config urati on ( T able 1 o n pa ge 4 ). 3 Remove the dust cover from the GBIC ’ s o ptical bo res. 4 Grasp the GBIC between you r thumb and forefi ng er . 5 Insert the GBIC i nto the slot on the front panel of the Giga bit Etherne t swit ching modul e (Figure 3) .
