The RJ-45 po rts are configu red as media-dependent interface-cro ssover (MDI- X ) connectors. These ports connect o ver straight cables to the netwo rk interface controller (NIC) card in a node or s erver , similar to a 2 10 10BASE-T por t status LEDs (green): On: The corresponding port is set to operate at 10 Mb/s .
con ventional Ethernet repeater h ub . If you are con necting to anoth er Ethernet hub o r Ethernet switch , you need a crossov er cable unless an MDI connection exists on the associated port of the attached de vice. The 400-4 TX MDA can operate at either 10 Mb/s or 100 Mb/s.

Installing an MD A The Uplink Mod ule s lot on the Ba yS tack 450 sw itches accommodates a sing le MD A. The connection can be either an R J-45 10/100B ASE-TX MD A or a f iber (100B ASE-FX or 1000B ASE-SX/LX) MD A with an SC or MT -R J connector . T o install an MDA into the Uplink Module slot, follow these steps: 1.
3. Insert the MD A into the chassis slot (see Figure 5 ) taking car e to slide the MD A onto the gu ides pro vided on the chass is. Figure 5. Insta lling an MD A 4. Press the MD A fi rmly into the c hassis sl ot. Be su re that the MD A is fully seated into the m ating connector .
After connecting the port cables, continue to follow the instructions in that manu al to connect po wer and v erify the installation . Replacing an MD A with a Different Model When replacing an in stalled MD A with another type of MD A, complete the following steps to clear the switch NVRAM: 1.
