Back, start, and search key The back, start, and search keys help you navigate your phone. • To switch between open apps, pr ess and hold , swipe left or right, and tap the app you want.
The phone must be switched off before inserting the SIM card. 1. Push the key into the hole un til the hold er is released, and pu ll the holder open. 2. Make sure the contact area is facing up, and put the card in the holder. 3. Push the holder back into your phone until it locks into place.
Remove the SIM card Got a new SIM card? Learn how to remove the previous card from your phone. 1. Switch the phone off. 2. Push th e SIM door key into the hole un til the holder is released, and pull the holder open. 3. Pull the card out of the holder.
2. When the ba ttery is full, discon nect the charge r from th e phone, then from the wall outlet. You don't need to charge the battery for a specif ic len gth of time, and you can use the phone while it's charging.
You need a Nokia wireless charging cover CC- 3065, marked with the Qi logo inside the cover, for wireless charging to work. The cover may b e included in t he sales box, or it may be sold separately. Only use original Nokia wireless charging covers. Nokia wireless chargers, such as the wireless charging plate DT-900, are sold separately.
Battery Take good care of your battery, it's the life force of your phone. Your phone has an internal, non-removable, re char geable battery. Use only Nokia approved chargers designated for this phone. You can also use a com patible USB cable to charge your phone (included).
Microsoft account With a Microsoft account, you can access Microsoft se rvices with a single u sername and passwor d on your compute r or phone. You can also use the same username and password on your Xbox.
Create your Microsoft accou nt Spice up your life and get more from your phone – create a Microsoft account. To create a Microsoft account, y ou need an intern et connection. If you don't have a data plan, the data transm ission costs ma y pile up quic kly.
Copy contacts Have your nearest and dearest instantly at your fi ngertips. Use the Transfer m y Data app to easily copy your contacts and text me ssages from you r old phone.
Unlock the keys and screen Press the power ke y, and drag the lock s creen up. Set the keys and screen to lock a utomatically On the start screen, sw ipe left, tap Settings > lock screen > Screen times out a fter , and select the length of time after which the keys and screen are locked automatically.
Do not connect products that creat e an output si gnal, as this may da mage the device. Do not connect any voltage source to the audio c onnector. If you connect an external device or headset, other than those approve d by Nokia for use with thi s device , to the audio conne ctor, pay special a ttention to volume levels.
Signal strength Battery pow er level The battery i s charging. Battery saver mod e is switched on. Your calls are forwarded to another number or your voice mailbox. There is n o SIM card i n your phone. Your SIM card is locked. A Bluetooth device is connected to your phone.
Basics Learn how to get the most out of your new phone. Get to know your phone Your phone has two views, making it easy for you to keep up with what's goin g on. To switch betwe en the start screen and the apps m enu, simply swip e left or right.
Tip: If you've got lots of differ ent things to do, it's easy to switch between the tasks at hand. Press and hold , swipe to the app you wa nt, and tap the app. Some ap ps may not s how up here if they're runnin g in the background. To view th em, go to the apps menu, tap Settings , swipe left, and tap background tasks .
Example: To open an app or other item, tap the a pp or item. To edit or delete a calendar appointment, tap and hold the appoint men t, and select the appropriate option. Tap and hold to drag an item Place your finger on the item for a second or two, and slide your finger across the screen.
Example: Swipe left or right between the start screen and the apps menu, or between different views in the hubs. To quickly scroll through a long list or men u, slide your finger quickly in a flicking motion up or down the screen, and lift yo ur fing er.
Important: Avoid scratching the touc h screen. Use yo ur pho ne wit h eas e Struggling with small text or blurry images? Make the fonts larger and the scree n easier to view. You can also use your phone with a teletypewriter (TTY/TDD). 1. On the start screen , swipe left, and tap Settings .
Use your phone with a TTY/TDD Switch TTY/TDD to full . The available TTY/TDD modes may vary depend ing on your network service provider. Use your phone in airplane mode In places whe re you don't want to make or receive calls, you can still access your mu sic, videos, and offline games if you switch airplane mode on.
Personalize your phone Learn how to pers onalize the start screen, and how to ch ange ringtones. Personalize the start screen Would you like to h ave only your most-u sed apps on the start sc reen? You can pin your f avorite apps, websites, and mu ch more to the start scree n, and move or resize tiles as you like.
Resize or unpin a tile To resize, tap and hold the tile, and t ap the arrow icon. The tiles can be either small, medium, or wi de. Th e bigger the tile is, the more info it can show. To unpin the tile, tap and hold the tile, and tap . Change the Glance screen settings Always keep y our phone at you r service.
Switch double-tap on or off On the start screen, swipe left, tap Settings > display+touch , and swipe to touch . Tap the Double tap to wake up phone check box.
Change your theme You can ch ange the displa y colors to match your taste and mood. 1. On the start screen , swipe left, and tap Settings > theme . 2. Tap Background or Accent color . Change color profile To adjust the satu ration and color t emperature of your screen, tap Settings > display+touch > Lumia color profile > adjust .
Add new ringtones from your PC to y our phone Connect your phone to your PC with a USB cable, and use the file manager of your PC to move the song you want to the ringtone folder in your phone. To set the song as your ringtone, in the ringtones+sounds view, tap Ringtone , and under Custom , tap the song.
Silent mode is switched on. If you have set your phone to vibr ate, vibrate mod e is switched on instead of silent mode. 2. If you want to set you r phone to vibrat e, on the start scre en, swipe left, tap Settings > ringtones +sounds , and switch Vibrate to On .
Extend battery life Get the most out of your phone wh ile getting the battery life you need . There are steps you can take to save power on your ph one. • Always charge the battery fully. • Mute unnece ssary sounds , such as key press s ounds. • Use wired headphones, rather th an the speakerphone.

Switch between upper and lower case characters Tap the shift key. To switch caps lock mode on, doub le-tap the key. To return t o normal mod e, tap the shift key again. Type in a number or special character Tap the numbers an d symbols key. To see more special charact er keys, t ap the shift key.
Use k eybo ard w ord s ugge stion s Your phone sugge sts word s as you writ e, to help y ou write quickly and more accur ately. Word suggestions are available in several lan guages. When you start writing a word, your phone suggests possible words. When the word you want is shown in the sugges tion bar, sele ct the word.
Switch word suggestions off On the start screen, sw ipe left, and tap Settings > keyb oard . Tap your language keybo ard, and clear the Suggest text check box. Add writing languages You can add several writing languages to your keyboard and switch be tween the language s when writing.
Scan codes or text Use your phone camer a to scan things, such as QR codes, barcodes, and book and DVD covers, and get further info on what your phone recognizes.
Clock Keep track of time – le arn how to use your phone as a clock, as well as an alarm clock. Set an alarm You can use your phone as an alarm clock. 1. On the start screen , swipe left, and tap Alarms . 2. Tap . 3. Fill in the alarm details, set the time, and tap .
Switch Set automatically to On . Update the time and date manua lly Switch Set automatically to Off , and edit the time and date. Update the time zone manually when traveling abr oad Switch Set automatically to Off , and tap Time zone and a location. SkyDrive Store your stuff in the clouds.
Save an Office document to SkyDrive Tap Office , swipe to pla ces , and tap phone . Then tap and hold the file you want to sa ve, and tap save to... > SkyDrive . Tip: You can also save a document to SkyDrive while working on it. Tap > save as ..
Store Make your phone your own with more app s, games, and other items, some of which are free of charge. Browse Store to find the latest content for y ou and your ph one.
Browse or search Store Check out the latest and most downloaded apps, games, and other items recommended for you and your phone. Brow se different cate gories, or sear ch for specific items. Tap Store . View or browse categories Tap a category on th e front page, or s wipe left or right t o see more categor ies and items.
Write a review for an app Do you want to share your opinion on an app with other Store users? Rat e and review the app. You can post one review per app that you download . 1. On the start screen , swipe left, tap and hold th e app, and tap rate and review .
People & messaging Contact your friends and family, an d share files, such as photos, using your phon e. Stay tuned with the latest updates to your social network ing services eve n when on the go. Calls Want to make calls on your new phone and talk to your friends? Read on and you'll learn how.
To search for a call record, tap > , and type in the contact's name or phone number. Use you r voice t o make a c all You can use your voice to call a contact. 1. Press and hold . 2. Say Call and t he contac t's name. To cancel, press . Tip: You can also use voice dialing with a Bluetooth headset.
Have a private conversation with som eone Tap and the person's name or phone number. The conference call is put on hold on your phone. The other people continue the conference call.
Reply to a call by a text messag e Can't answer a call in voice? You can reply to the caller by a text message. 1. When someone ca lls you, tap TEXT REPLY . 2. Tap type a message... , and write your message. You can only reply by a text message to calls from the contacts saved in your phone.
Add or dele te con tacts Keep your friends with you. Save their phone numbers, addres ses, and other info to the People hub. Add a contact Tap People , and s wipe to all . 1. Tap . 2. If you're signed in to several accounts, ta p the account to which the contact is linked.
2. Tap , and start writing a name. The list filters as you write. Tip: Pin your most important contacts or contact groups to the start screen. Tap and hold a contact, and tap pin to start .
Create, edit, or delete a contact group You can create contact groups, and send a message to several p eople at the same t ime. For exampl e, you can add family members to the same group and reach them quickly with the same message. Tap People , and s wipe to to geth er .
Social networ ks Want to keep in touch wi th your f riends? Yo u can set up social networking service s on your phone. Social networking services on your phone keep you connected. Set up an ac count Set up your social networkin g service accounts. 1. On the start screen , swipe left, and tap Settings > email+accounts .
Write on your friend's wall You can contact your friends by writing on their Facebook wall. 1. Tap People , and swipe to all . 2. Tap a Facebook friend's profile and write on wall . 3. Write your message, and tap . Comment on a friend's status update In Facebook, you can contact yo ur friends b y commenting on their st atus updates.
Messages Stay in touch with your fr iends, and sen d them text or multimedia m essages, or start chatting. You can open messages directly from the start screen.
Send a message With text and multimedia messages, you can quickly contact yo ur friends and family. If you start writing a message, and switch to another app bef ore sending it, you can contin ue your message when you return to Messaging. Tap > drafts .
1. Tap Messaging . 2. To read a message, tap a conversation. Save an attachment Tap the attachment, such as a photo, and tap > save to phone . Delete a conversation In threads , tap , the conversation you want to delete, and . Delete all messages in you r phone Tap > > select all , and tap .
Your phone may ask you about using you r location. You need to allow i t to use th is feature. 1. When writing a text message, tap > my location . Sending a message with an attachme nt may be more expens ive than sending a norm al text message. For more info, contact your service provider.
Chat with your friends Do you like chatting online with your friends ? If you are out and about, you can send instant messages from your phone, no matter where you are . You need a Microsoft account to chat. When you co nnect your Facebook account to your Microsoft account, you can use Facebook chat in Messaging.
2. Tap an account, and write your username and password. Tip: To add your work mail, contacts, a nd calendar to your phone, use adva nced setup . Write your username and password, ta p Exchange ActiveSync , and type in the requir ed details. 3. Tap sign in .
You can pin severa l mailboxes to the start screen. For ex ample, dedicate a tile for business mail and another for personal m ail. If you link s everal mailb oxes into a unified inbox, you can open mail from all your inboxes in one tile. To read your mail, tap the tile.
1. On the start screen , tap . 2. In your mailbox, tap t he mail. Unread mail is marked in a different color. Tip: To zoom in or out, place two fingers on the screen, and sl ide them together or apart. Tip: If a mail contains a web address, tap it to go to the website.
All the mails you selected are deleted. Depending on your mail account, the mail may be deleted from your mail server, too. Delete one mail Open the mail and ta p . View mails separately Mails are grouped by title in conversations. A convers ation also includes your repl ies.
Link several mailboxes as a unified inbox If you have more than one mail account, you can choose which inboxes you want to link together in to one inbox. The un ified inbox lets you see a ll your mail at a glance. 1. On the start screen , tap a mailbox.
Camera Why carry a separa te camera if your phon e has all you need for captu ring memories? With your phone camera, you can easily take photos or record videos. Camera basics Take a photo Shoot sharp and vibrant phot os – capture the best momen ts in your p hoto album.
To focus on a specific ob ject or area, tap the object or area on the screen. Hold the phone still until the white square stops blinking. Take a self-portrait To take a self-portrait easily, us e the front camera of your phone. 1. To switch the camera on, pre ss the camera key.
Record a video Besides taking photos with your phone, you ca n also capture your spec ial moment s as videos. 1. To switch the camera on, pre ss the camera key. 2. To switch from photo to video mode , tap . 3. To zoom in or out, place two fingers on th e screen and slide them together or apar t.
• If you don't use the ca mera for about a minute , it goes to sleep. To wake the camera up, press the power key, and drag the lock screen up. • To see the screen at its best , make sure you're not coveri ng the light sensor. Keep a safe distance when using the flash.
Take an action shot Want to take great photos of moving objects? Us e Nokia Smart Camera to convert photos of moving objects into a sing le dynamic photo. 1. Take a photo using Nokia Smart Camera. Tip: You don't need to follow the moving obj ect when ta king the phot o.
Remove moving objects in a photo Did someone w alk through yo ur photo in th e last moment? Use Nokia Smart Camera a nd remove unwanted moving objects i n a photo. 1. Take a photo using Nokia Smart Camera. 2. Swipe up to the last photo on th e list, and tap the photo.
Photos and videos Shot lots of great photos and videos? Here's how you view, or ganize, share, and edit them. Photos hub The photos you've taken or videos you've recorded with your phone are saved to the Photos hub, where you can browse and view them.
1. To view a photo you've taken, tap Camera Roll and the ph oto. 2. To view the n ext photo, swipe left. To view the previous photo, swipe right. Zoom in or out Place two fingers on the scre en, and slide your fingers together or apart. Tip: To quickly zoom in or zoom back out, tap the photo twice.
Create an album To easily find photos of an occasion , a person, or a trip, organize your phot os into albums according to subject, for exampl e. If your computer is a Mac, install the Wind ows Phone app from the Mac App Store. 1. Connect your phone to a comp atible computer wit h a compatible USB cable .
Tip: Your phone is shown under portable devices as W indows Phone. To see the folde rs of your phone, double-click the name of the phon e. There are separate folders for documen ts, music, photos, ringtones, and videos. 3. Open the folder for photos, and sele ct and copy the photos to your compute r.
Maps & navigation Explore what’s out ther e and how to get there. Switch location services on Find out where you are using Maps, and s ave your lo cation to the photos you take – let apps use your location info to offer you a wider variety of services.

Tip: To pin a category to the start scr een, after selecting a category, tap . Th is way you ca n quickly discover new places wherever you are . Find your way inside a shopping center No more zig-zagging in a shopping center, lookin g for a particular shop.
2. Tap > directions . 3. If you don't wan t the start point to be you r current location, ta p from , and search for a starting point. 4. Tap to , and search for a destination. The route is shown on the map, along wi th an esti mate of how long it take s to get there.
Sync your saved places Have your favorite places always b acked up and at hand – sync your favorites with your Nokia account. On the start screen, sw ipe left, and tap HERE Maps . You can plan a trip on your computer at here.com , s ync the s aved places w ith HERE Maps on your phone, and access the plan on the go.

4. To start navigation, tap START . By default, the map ro tates to your driving direction. The compass always points north. Tip: If you want to t ake a look at t he remaining route during navigation, you can drag the map with your finger. To retu rn to your current location , tap .
Get voice guidance Voice guidance, if available for your language, help s you find your way to a destination, leaving you free to enjoy the journey. Tap HERE Drive + . 1. Tap > Settings > Navigation voice . 2. Tap a language. If you don't want to use voice guidance, tap None .
Change the look of the Drive+ view Are you using HER E Drive+ at night , when it's dark ? With day and nigh t modes, you can see the screen clearly at a ll times. You can also chan ge other settin gs to suit your nee ds. Tap HERE Drive + . 1. Tap > Settings .
A-GPS and other enhancements to GPS and GLONASS may require transferring small amounts of dat a over the cellular network. If you want to avoid data costs, for example when traveling, y ou can switch the mobile data connection off in your phone settings.
Internet Learn how to create wireless connections and browse the web while keeping your data costs down. Define internet connections Does your network service provider charge you a fixed fee for data transfer or on a pay as you use basis? Change the Wi-Fi and mobile data settings to reduce your dat a costs while roaming and at home.
Connect your computer to the web Want to use the inte rnet on your laptop but don't h ave access? You can use you r phone's mobile data connection with your laptop or other devi ces. A Wi-Fi connection is then created. 1. On the start screen , swipe left, and tap Settings > internet sharing .
Tip: You can also dou ble-tap the sc reen. Open a new tab When you want to visit s everal websi tes at the sa me time, you can open up to 6 browse r tabs a nd switch between them. Tap Internet Explorer . Tap > tabs > . Switch between tabs Tap > tabs and a tab.
Share a web page When you've found an inter esting web page , you can sen d it to your friends. If yo ur friends are n ext to you, just tap their phone s. Otherwise , you can send the page in a mail or text mess age or post it to your social networks.

FM radio Learn how to listen to the radio on your phone. Listen to the radio Enjoy your favorit e FM radio stations on the go. To listen to the radio, you need to attach a compat ible headset to the device. The headset acts as an antenna. 1. On the start screen , swipe left, and tap Music+Videos > radio .
Save a radio station Save your favorit e radio stations so you can easily listen to them late r. On the start screen, sw ipe left, and tap Music+Videos . To save the station that you are listening to, tap . View your saved stations list Tap . Remove a station from the lis t Tap .
Personalize your Mix Radio You can create a mu sic profile to listen t o genre mi xes that have been tailore d to your taste. Your profile is compiled automatically from the music you have on your compute r. 1. On the start screen , swipe left, and tap Nokia Music > mix radio .
Tip: If your computer 's operating system is Window s 7 or Window s 8, you can also use the Windows Phone app. Wi ndows 8 installs the app automatic ally.
The availability of payment method s depends on your country of residence and you r network service provider. Play a game Gaming on your phone is a trul y social experienc e . Xbox, Microsoft's gaming service, lets yo u play games with your friends and use your gamer profile to keep track of game scores and ach ievements.
Office Keep yourself organized. Learn how to use th e calendar and the Microsoft Office apps. Microsoft Office Mobile Microsoft Office Mobile is your office away from the office. Go to the Office hub to create and edit Word docum ents and Excel workbooks, open and view PowerPoint slide show s, and share documents wit h SharePoint.

Wi-Fi Find out more about using the Wi-Fi connection. Wi-Fi connections Your phone pe riodically checks for and notifies y o u of available connections. The notification appears briefly a t the top of the scre en. To manag e yo ur Wi-Fi connections, select the notif ication.
NFC Explore the world around you. Tap accessories to connect to them , and tap tags to call someone or open a website. Near Field Communication (NFC) makes connecting easy and fun.
Disconnect the accessory Tap the NFC area of the accessory again. For more info, see the accessory' s user guide. Read NFC tags NFC tags can contain info, such as a web address, a phone number, or a business card . The info you want is just a tap away.
1. To activate the service, contac t your network service provider. 2. To make a payment, tap the reader with the NFC area of your phone. Your service provider may ask you to co nfirm the pay ment. Note: Payment and ticketing apps and services are provided by third part ies.

To back up y our other co ntent, such a s music, us e either th e Windows Phone ap p for desktop or Windows Explorer. If you ev er need t o restore yo ur settings or ot her stuff you have backed up, add your Microsoft account to your new phone, and follow the instructions shown on the phone.
