Antenna locations Learn where the antenn as are loc ated on y our phone to get the best poss ible perfo rmance. Avoid touching the antenna area while the antenn a is in use. Contact with antennas affects the communication qu ality and may reduce ba ttery life due to higher pow er level during operation.
2. When the ba ttery is full, discon nect the charge r from th e phone, then from the wall outlet. You don't need to charge the battery for a specif ic len gth of time, and you can use the phone while it's charging.
The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times, but it will eventually wear ou t. When the talk and standby times are noticeably shorter than normal, replace the battery. Charge your phone wirelessly No need for hassle with cables, just p op your device on a wireless char ger, and it immediatel y starts charging.
Warning: Make sure th ere’s nothing between the ch arger and the device. Do not attach any objects, such as st ickers, on the devic e surface near the charging area. For more info on wireless chargin g, see the u ser guide of y our charger and your wire less charging cover.
Switch the phone off Press and hold the power key, and drag the lock screen d own. Microsoft account With a Microsoft account, you can access Microsoft se rvices with a single u sername and passwor d on your compute r or phone. You can also use the same username and password on your Xbox.

Unlock the keys and screen Press the power ke y, and drag the lock s creen up. Set the keys and screen to lock a utomatically On the start screen, sw ipe left, tap Settings > lock screen > Screen times out a fter , and select the length of time after which the keys and screen are locked automatically.
Do not connect products that creat e an output si gnal, as this may dama ge the device. Do not connect any voltage source to the audio c onnector. If you connect an external device or headset, other than those approve d by Nokia for use with thi s device , to the audio conne ctor, pay special a ttention to volume levels.
Icons shown on your phone The status bar at the top of the screen tells you the current time, battery and signal strength, and much more. Tip: To see hidden icons, tap the statu s bar. Signal strength Battery pow er level The battery i s charging. Battery saver mod e is switched on.
Basics Learn how to get the most out of your new phone. Get to know your phone Your phone has two views, making it easy for you to keep up with what's goin g on. To switch betwe en the start screen and the apps m enu, simply sw ipe left or right.
Tip: If you've got lots of differ ent things to do, it's easy to switch between the tasks at hand. Press and hold , swipe to the app you w ant, and tap the app. Some apps may not show up here if they're runnin g in the background. To view th em, go to the apps menu, tap Settings , swipe left, and tap background tasks .
Example: To open an app or other item, tap the a pp or item. To edit or delete a calendar appointment, tap and hold the appoint men t, and select the appropriate option. Tap and hold to drag an item Place your finger on the item for a second or two, and slide your finger across the screen.
Example: Swipe left or right between the start screen and the apps menu, or between different views in the hubs. To quickly scroll through a long list or men u, slide your finger quickly in a flicking motion up or down the screen, and lift yo ur fing er.
Important: Avoid scratching the touc h screen. Use yo ur ph one wit h eas e Struggling with small text or blurry images? Make the fonts larger and the scree n easier to view. You can also use your phone with a teletypewriter (TTY/TDD). 1. On the start screen , swipe left, and tap Settings .
Use your phone with a TTY/TDD Switch TTY/TDD to full . The available TTY/TDD modes may vary depend ing on your network service provider. Use your phone with a hearing aid Switch Telecoil to On .
Personalize your phone Learn how to pers onalize the start screen, and how to ch ange ringtones. Personalize the start screen Would you like to h ave only your most-u sed apps on the start sc reen? You can pin your f avorite apps, websites, and mu ch more to the start scree n, and move or resize tiles as you like.
Resize or unpin a tile To resize, tap and hold the tile, and t ap the arrow icon. The tiles can be either small, medium, or wi de. Th e bigger the tile is, the more info it can show. To unpin the tile, tap and hold the tile, and tap . Change the Glance screen settings Always keep y our phone at you r service.
Create a safe, fun start screen for kids You can let your k ids use some apps on your phon e without having to worry about them accidentally deleting your work mail, making online pu rchases, or doing anything els e they shouldn't. Put selected apps, games, and other favori tes for kids to enjoy in their own start scree n.
Change color profile To adjust the satu ration and color t emperature of your screen, tap Settings > display+touch > Lumia color profile > adjust . Personalize the lock screen Would you like to make yo ur lock screen look uni que? You can, for example, have your own favorite photo in the background.
You can use a song as your ringtone if it is not protected with digital rights m anagement (DRM ), and it’s smaller than 30 MB. Tip: Want to cr eate y our own unique ringto ne? Tap Store , and download the Ringtone Mak er app. Your PC must hav e Windows Vista, Window s 7, or Windows 8.

• Switch Glance on only when needed. To switch Glance off, on the start screen, swipe left , tap Settings > display+touch , and swip e to glanc e . Switch Glanc e to Off . • Use double-tap to wake up your ph one only when needed. On the start screen, s wipe left, and tap Settings > display+touch .
• Stop your phone scanning for available wireless networks. On the st art screen, sw ipe left, tap Settings > Wi-Fi , and switch Wi-Fi network ing to . • Stop your phone connecting to games. On the start screen, swipe left, tap Settings , swipe to applications , tap games , and switch all relevant settings off.
Use the on-screen keyboard Writing with the on-screen keyboard is easy and fun. You can use the keyboard when holding your phone in portrait or landscape mode.
Copy or paste text Tap a word, drag the circles before and after the wo rd to highlight th e section you want to c opy, and tap . To paste the text, tap . Add an accent to a character Tap and hold the character, an d tap the accented character. Delete a cha racter Tap the backspace key.
Use k eybo ard w ord s ugge stion s Your phone sugge sts word s as you w rite, to help y ou write quickly and more acc urately. Wor d suggestions are available in several lan guages. When you start writing a word, your phone suggests possible words. When the word you want is shown in the sugges tion bar, sele ct the word.
Switch word suggestions off On the start screen, sw ipe left, and tap Settings > keyb oard . Tap your language keybo ard, an d clear the Suggest text check box. Add writing languages You can add several writing languages to your keyboard and switch be tween the language s when writing.
Scan codes or text Use your phone camer a to scan things, such as QR codes, barcodes, and book and DVD covers, and get further info on what your phone recognizes.
Clock Keep track of time – le arn how to use your phone as a clock, as well as an alarm clock. Set an alarm You can use your phone as an alarm clock. 1. On the start screen , swipe left, and tap Alarms . 2. Tap . 3. Fill in the alarm details, set the time, and tap .
Switch Set automatically to On . Update the time and date manua lly Switch Set automatically to Off , and edit the time and date. Update the time zone manually when traveling abr oad Switch Set automatically to Off , and tap Time zone and a location. SkyDrive Store your stuff in the clouds.
3. Write a caption for t he photo, if you want, an d tap or . Tip: To set your phone to automatically upload photos or videos to SkyDrive, on the start screen, swipe left, and tap Settings . Swipe to applications , and ta p photos+camera > SkyDrive .
Nokia account Your Nokia account is the key to Nokia services. With your Nokia account, you c an, for example: • Access Nokia services with a single use rname and password on your computer or phone.
The availability of Store and the se lection of items available for download depend on your region. To download from Stor e, you need t o be signed in to your Microsoft accoun t on your phone . When you're signed in, y ou are offered co ntent compatible with your phone.
View your ongoing downloads While an item is down loading, you can continue to browse Store for other content and add items to be downloaded. 1. Tap Store . 2. To view you r ongoing downloads, ta p the download notification at the bottom of the main view.
People & messaging Contact your friends and family, and share your files, such as photos , using your phone. Stay tuned with the latest updates to your social ne tworking services even when on the go. Calls Want to make calls on your new phone and talk to your friends? Read on and you'll learn how.
Use you r voice t o make a c all You can use your voice to call a contact. 1. Press and hold . 2. Say Call and t he contac t's name. To cancel, press . Tip: You can also use voice dialing with a Bluetooth headset. This feature may not be available in a ll languages.
To return to the conf erence call, tap . Forward calls to another phone Can't always answer th e phone, but don't want to mis s any incoming calls? You can forward them to another phone number. 1. Tap > > settings , or tap Settings > network+ , depending on your software version.
Contacts You can save and organiz e your friends' ph one nu mbe rs, addresse s, and other contact inform ation in the People hub. You can also get in touch with your friends through social networ king services. Add or dele te con tacts Keep your friends with you.
Save a number from a received call Have you received a call from a person whose ph one number is not yet saved in your People hub? You can easily sa ve the number in a new or existing con tact list entry. 1. Tap . 2. In the call history list, tap a phone number and .
Share your plans with your family and fr iends Want to gather with people, but find it difficult to s e t a d a t e a nd t i m e c o n v e n i e n t f o r e v e r y b o d y ? Y o u can invite others to chat, and privat ely share a calendar, photos, or notes.
Social networ ks Want to keep in touch wi th your friends? Yo u can set up social networkin g services on your phone. Social networking services on your phone keep you connected. Set up an ac count Set up your social networkin g service accounts. 1. On the start screen , swipe left, and tap Settings > email+accounts .
Write on your friend's wall You can contact your friends by writing on their Facebook wall. 1. Tap People , and swipe to all . 2. Tap a Facebook friend's profile and write on wall . 3. Write your message, and tap . Comment on a friend's status update In Facebook, you can contact yo ur friends b y commenting on their st atus updates.
Messages Stay in touch with your fr iends, and se nd them text or multimed ia messages, or star t chatting. You can open messages directly from the start screen.
Send a message With text and multimedia messages, you can quickly contact yo ur friends and family. If you start writing a message, and switch to another app bef ore sending it, you can cont inue your message when you return to Messaging. Tap > drafts .
1. Tap Messaging . 2. To read a message, tap a conversation. Save an attachment Tap the attachment, such as a photo, and tap > save to phone . Delete a conversation In threads, tap , the conversation you want to delete, and . Delete all messages in you r phone Tap > > select all , and tap .
Your phone may ask you about using you r location. You need to allow i t to use th is feature. 1. When writing a text message, tap > my location . Sending a message with an attachme nt may be more expens ive than sending a nor mal text message. For more info, contact your service provider.
Chat with your friends Do you like chatting online with your friends ? If you are out and about, you can send instant messages from your phone, no matter where you are . You need a Microsoft account to chat. When you co nnect your Facebook account to your Microsoft account, you can use Facebook chat in Messaging.
2. Tap an account, and write your username and password. Tip: Add your work mail, contacts, and calendar to your phone with advanced setup. Write your username and pas sword, tap Exchange ActiveSync , and type in the required details. 3. Tap sign in .
You can pin severa l mailboxes to the start screen. For example, dedicate a tile for business mail and another for personal m ail. If you link s everal mailb oxes into a unified inbox, you can open mail from all your inboxes in one tile. To read your mail, tap the tile.
1. On the start screen , tap . 2. In your mailbox, tap t he mail. Unread mail is marked in a different color. Tip: To zoom in or out, place 2 fingers on th e screen, and slide them together or apart. Tip: If a mail contains a web address, tap it to go to the website.
Delete one mail Open the mail, an d tap . View mails separately Mails are grouped by title in conversations. A convers ation also includes your repl ies. If you'd like to view all your mails separately, you ca n switch the c onversation s feature off.

Camera Why carry a separa te camera if your phon e has all you need for captu ring memories? With your phone camera, you can easily take photos or record videos. Camera basics Get to know Nokia Pro Camera Want to take outstanding photos? With Nokia Pro Camera, you can enjoy full-resolution ph otos and full HD video capture with stereo sound.
View and reframe the photo in full-resol ution view To view and reframe the photo you just took, tap the round thumb nail next to . This full-resol ution photo can only be viewed in Nokia Pro Camera. Fo r example, in the Photos hub, a n easy-to-s hare (5MP) version of the photo is used.
Take a self-portrait To take a self-portrait easily, us e the front camera of your phone. 1. To switch the camera on, pre ss the camera key. 2. Tap > use front camera . 3. To take the photo, press the c amera key. Tip: You can also record videos with th e front camera.
Tip: You can also share from the Photos hub. Select the photo or video, and tap > share.. . . Using services or downloading content may cause th e transfer of large amounts of data, which may result in data costs. Not all sharing services support all file fo rmats or videos recorde d in high quality.
• You can zoom Nokia Pro Camera with only one finger. To zoom in, swipe up, and to zoom ou t, swipe down. • To view the photos you have taken, tap on the top left corner of the screen. • To focus the cam era on a sp ecific ob ject, tap the object on the screen.
Use diff erent camer a modes Did you know that your phone has several camera modes to choose from? Nokia's own camera modes, Nokia Pro Camera and Nokia Smart Camera, as well as the standard camer a, help you take the be st photos. 1. To switch Nokia Pro Came ra on, pre ss the camera key.
Take an action shot Want to take great photos of moving objects? Us e Nokia Smart Camera to convert photos of moving objects into a sing le dynamic photo. 1. Take a photo using Nokia Smart Camera. Tip: You don't need to follow the moving obj ect when ta king the phot o.

Photos and videos Shot lots of great photos and videos? Here's how you view, or ganize, share, and edit them. Photos hub The photos you've taken or videos you've recorded with your phone are saved to the Photos hub, where you can browse and view them.
1. To view a photo you've taken, tap Camera Roll and the ph oto. 2. To view the n ext photo, swipe left. To view the previous photo, swipe right. Zoom in or out Place 2 fingers on the screen, and slide your fingers together or apart. Tip: To quickly zoom in or zoom back out, tap the photo twice.
Create an album To easily find photos of an occasion , a person, or a trip, organize your phot os into albums according to subject, for exampl e. If your computer is a Mac, install the Wind ows Phone app from the Mac App Store. 1. Connect your phone to a comp atible computer wit h a compatible USB cable .
Tip: Your phone is shown under portable devices as W indows Phone. To see the folders of your phone, double-click the name of the phon e. There are separate folders for documen ts, music, photos, ringtones, and videos. 3. Open the folder for photos, and sele ct and copy the photos to your compute r.

Maps & navigation Explore what’s out ther e and how to get there. Switch location services on Find out where you are using HERE Maps, and save your location to the photos you take – let apps use your location info to offer you a wider variety of s ervices.

Find a specific pla ce in a building Tap the building, and swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Swipe left to directory , an d tap . Get directions to a place Want to find your way easily? Get directions for walking, driving, or using public transportation – use your current location or any ot her place as the starting point.
Save a place To aid your travel planning, you can search for plac es, such as hotels, at tractions, or gas stations, and save them to your phone. 1. On the start screen , swipe left, and tap HERE Maps . 2. To search for an address or place, tap . 3. When the p lace is shown on the map, to open t he place de tails vi ew, tap th e info bubble.

Obey all local laws. Using a mobile phone or some of its features while dr iving may be prohibited. Always keep your han ds free to operate the vehicle wh ile driving. Your first consideration while driving should be road safe ty. 1. Tap > Set destination , and search for your dest ination.
Sync your saved places If you're signed in to yo ur Nokia a ccount, your favorites are syn ced to your account aut omatically every time yo u open HERE Drive+. To sy nc your favor ites manually , tap > Set destination > Favorites > . Drive to a saved place Tap > Set destination > Favor ites and the place.
Download maps To save on data costs when traveling, save new street maps to your phone bef ore your journey. If you're running low on space, you can remo ve some maps fr om your phone. Tap HERE Drive + > > Sett ings > Manage maps . To download map s on your phone, you need to be c onnected to a Wi-Fi network.
HERE Transit Find the best wa y to get around using public transportation. On the start screen, sw ipe left, and tap HERE Transit . You can: • Get directions door-to-d oor, combining differen t mode s of public transp ortation • Find nearby stops and stations, along with the next departures • See your ro ute on a map.
When using the app in traffic, pay at tention to the sur roundi ng traffic . Your fir st consider ation shou ld be safet y. Find your way using pu blic transportation Scheduling your journey us ing trolleys, trains, and buses can be hard - why not let your phone d o the planning? 1.
See your recent destinations No need to search for a frequent destination again and again, you can travel there with a simple tap. On the start screen, sw ipe left, and tap HERE Transit . The destinations you search for are automatically saved to the history view, so you can use them again.

Internet Learn how to create wireless connections and browse the web while keeping your data costs down. Define internet connections Does your network service provider ch arge you a fi xed fee f or data trans fer or on a pay-as -you-use basis? Change the Wi-Fi and mobile data settings to reduce your data costs while roaming and at home.
Tip: To quickly write a web address su ffix such as .org, tap and hold the suffix key on the keyboard, and tap the suffix you want. 4. Tap . Tip: To search the internet, write a search wo rd in the a ddress bar, a nd tap . Zoom in or out Place two fingers on the scre en, and slide your fingers apart or together.

FM radio Learn how to listen to the radio on your phone. Listen to the radio Enjoy your favorit e FM radio stations on the go. To listen to the radio, you need to attach a compat ible headset to the device. The headset acts as an antenna. 1. On the start screen , swipe left, and tap Music+Videos > radio .
Go to the next or previous station Swipe left or right. Save a radio station Save your favorit e radio stations so you can easily listen to them later. On the start screen, sw ipe left, and tap Music+Videos . To save the station that you are listening to, tap .
Skip to the ne xt song Tap . There may be some limitation on how many songs you can skip. Personalize your Mix Radio You can create a mu sic profile to listen t o genre mi xes that have been tailor ed to your taste. Your profile is compiled automatically from the music you have on your compute r.
The service needs to know your cu rrent location. Wh en asked, let the service use your location info. 2. To buy tickets , tap the gig, swi pe to tickets , and se lect the seller, if available. Tip: You can also search for gigs based on the artist, venue , or location.
