• Start upda te — Download the available updates. To unmark sp ecific updates that you do not want to download, select the updates from the list. • Update via PC — Update your device using a PC. This option replaces the Start update option when updates are only available using the Nokia Software Updater PC application.

Prolong battery life Many features in your device increase the demand on battery power and reduce the battery lifetime. To save battery power, note the following: • Features that use Bluetooth te chnology, or allowing such features to run in th e background while using other features, increase the demand on battery power.
To free memory, transfer data to an alternative memory (if available) or compatible computer. To remove data you no longer need, use File manager or the respective applicat ion.
Get started Insert the SIM card and battery Safe removal. Always switch the device off and disconnect the charger befo re removing the battery. 1. Remove the back cover. 2. Remove the batte ry, if inserted. 3. Pull out the SIM card holder , and insert the SIM card.
Insert the memory card A memory card may already be inserted in the device. If not, do the following: 1. Insert a compatible memory card in the s lot. Ensure that the contact area on th e card is facing up and towards the slot. 2. Push the card in. You can hear a click when th e card locks into place.
2. If the device asks for a PIN code or lock code, enter it, and select OK . The preset lock code is 12345 . If you f orget the code and your device is locked, your device will require service and additional charges may apply. For more information, contact a Nokia Care point or your device dealer.

To make handsfree phone calls, use a headset with a compatible remote control unit, or use the microphone on the dev ice. Screen saver clock When the screen saver of yo ur device is activated (the display is black), press the scr oll key to see the time and date.
The type of content that ca n be transferred depends on the model of the device from which you want to transfer content. I f that devi ce suppor ts synchronisation, you can also synchronise data between the devices. Your device notifies you if the other device is not compatible.

Home screen Home screen In the hom e screen, you can quickly access your m ost frequently us ed applications, and view at a gl ance if you have missed calls or new messages . Whenever you see the icon, scroll right to access a list of available actions.
2 — Contacts key 3 — Calendar key 4 — E-mail key Home key To access the ho me screen, press the home key briefly. Press the home key briefly again to access the menu. To view the list of active applications, press the home key for a few seconds.
To define the turning options, select Menu > Ctrl. panel . Select Menu > Ctrl. panel > Settings and General > Sensors > Turning control . Calendar About Calendar Select Menu > Calendar . With calendar, you can crea te and view scheduled events and appointments, and swi tch between different calendar views.
1. To create a meeting entry, s elect a day and Options > New entry > Meeting request . 2. Enter the names of the re quired participants. To add names from your contacts list, enter the first few characters, and s elect from the propos ed matches.
Work with contacts Select Menu > Contacts . To create a contact, select Options > New contact , and enter the details of the contact. To copy contacts from the memory card, if available, select Opti ons > Create backup > Memory card to phone .
To remove the ringing tone, select Default tone from the list of ringing tone s. Contacts settings Select Menu > Contacts . To change the setting s of the Contacts application , select Options >.

Make calls Voice calls 1. In the home screen, enter the phone number, including the area code. To remove a number, press the backspace key. For international calls, press * twice for the + character (which replaces th e international a ccess code), and enter the countr y code, area code (omit the leading zero if necessary), and phone number.

Make a call with a voice tag Note: Using voice tags may be difficult in a noisy environment or during an emergency, so you should not rely solely upon voice di alling in all circumstances. When you use voice dialling, the loudspeaker is in use. Hold the device at a short distance away when you sa y the voice tag.
The video call is active when you see two video images, and hear the sound th rough the loudspeaker. The call re cipient may deny video sending ( ), in which case you only hear the sound and may see a still image or a grey background graphic. 3. To end the video call, press the end key.

• Contact your service provider to establish an agreement for you to use the UMTS network. • Ensure that the UMTS access p oint connection settings for your device are c onfigured properly . For more information about the setting s, contact your service provider.
If someone sends you a share invita tion and you are not within UMTS net work coverage, you will not know that you received an invitation. When you receive an invi tation, select from the following: • Yes — Accept the invi tation, and activate th e sharing session.
To clear both sent and received information, select Options > Clear counters . You need the lock code to clear the information. Monitor all communicat ion events Select Menu > Log .
Messaging Select Menu > Messaging . In Messaging (netw ork service), you can send and receive text messages, mu ltimedia messages, audio messages, an d e-mail messages . You can also receive web service messages, cell broadcas t messages, and special messa ges containing data , and send service commands.
Organise messages Select Menu > Messaging and My folders . To create a new folder to organise your mes sages, select Options > New folder . To rename a folder, select Option s > Rename folder . You can only rename folders th at you have created .
Send e-mail Select Menu > Messaging . 1. Select your mailbox and Optio ns > Create emai l . 2. In the To field, enter th e recipient's e-mail address. If the recipient's e-mail address can be found in Contacts, start enterin g the recipient's name, and select the recipient from the proposed matches.

To view information about the sender, web address, expiration date, and other detai ls of the message before downloading it, select Options > Message details .
Text message settings Select Menu > Messaging and Options > Se ttings > Text message . Select from the following: • Message centres — View the available message centres for your device, or add a new one. • Message centre in use — Select a message centre to send the messa ge.
Automatic retrieval may not be supporte d in all regions. • Allow anonymous ms gs. — Receive messages from unknown senders. • Receive adverts — Re ceive messages define d as advertisements. • Receive reports — R equest for delivery and read reports of sent mess ag es (network service).
• Folder vie w — Select if you want to see folder information on one or two lines. Instant messaging About Instant messaging Instant messaging (IM) (network service) allows you to converse with other people using instant messages and join discussion forums (IM groups) with specific topics.
View and start conversations Under the Conversations heading you can see a list of the contacts with whom you have an ong oing conversation. Ongoin g conversations are automatically closed when you exit IM. To view a conversation, scroll to a participant, and press the scroll key.
Record chats When viewing the content of a conversation, to record the messages that are exchanged during a conversation or while you are joined to an IM group, select Options > Save conversation . To stop recording, select Opti ons > Stop recording .
To prevent receiving messages from certain participants, select Back > Options > Bloc king options . To leave the IM group, select Opt ions > Le ave IM group .
Connectivity Your device offers several options to connect to the internet or to another compatible device or PC. Data connections and access points Your device supports packet data connections (network service), such as GPRS in the GSM network.

Access points Create a new access point Select Menu > Ctrl. panel > Settin gs and Connection > Destinations . You may receive access poin t settings in a message from a service provider. Some or all access points may be preset for your device by your service provider, and you may not be able to chan ge, create, edit, or remove them.

To connect a compatible PC to the home network, on the PC, you must insta ll the related software. The software is on the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM supplied with your device, or you can download it from the device support pag es on the No kia website.

• Synchronisation — Set automatic o r manual synchronisation. • Source devices — Select the source devices for synchronisation. • Memory in use — View and select the memory used. • Memory manager — To be informed when the device is running out of memory, select Ask when full .
Internet With the Web browser, you can view hypertext markup language (HTML) web pa ges on t he internet as originally designed. You can also browse web pages that are desig ned specifica lly fo r mobile devices, and use extensible hypertext marku p language (XHTML ), or the wireless markup lang uage (WML).
Browser toolbar The browser toolbar helps yo u select frequently used functions of the browser. To open the toolbar, press and hold the scroll key on a blank spot on a web page. To move within the toolbar, scroll left or right. To sele ct a feature, press the scroll key.
Content search Select Menu > Internet > Web . To search fo r text, phone nu mbers, or e-mail addresses within the current web page, select Options > Keywor d and the appropriate option. To go to the next match, scroll down. To go to the previous match , scroll up.
Security certificates may be required for some services, such as banking services. You are notified if the identity of the server is not authenti c or if you do not have the correct security certificate in your device. For more information, contact your service provider.

Nokia Office Tools Nokia Office Tools suppor t mobile business and enable effective communication with work teams. Active notes Select Menu > Office > Active note s . Active notes allows you to create, edit, and view different kinds of notes, for example, meeting memos, hobby notes, or sh opping lists.
This calculator has limited ac curacy and is designed for simple calculations. To make a calculati on, enter the first number of the calculation. Select a function such as add or subtract from the function map. Enter the second number of the calculation, and select = .
free memory for the files that you have chosen to back up. Format mass memory When mass memory is refo rmatted, all data in the memory is perman ently lost. Back up data you want to keep before formatting the mass memory. You can use Nokia Ovi Suite or Nokia Nseries PC Suite to back up data to a compat ible PC.

File printing Print files Select Menu > Ctrl. panel > Printers . You can print d ocuments, su ch as files, messages, or web pages, from the device, preview a print job, define page layout options, select a p rinter, or print to a file. You may not be able to prin t all types of doc uments.
Image print You can print images from your device using a printer compatible with P ictBridge . You can only print i mages that are in the JPEG file format. To print images in Photos, camera, or image viewe r, mark the images, and select Options > Print .
To send a note to other compatible devices, select Options > Send . To synchronise or to define synchronisation s ettings for a note, select Options > Synchronisat ion . Select Start to initialise synchronisation or Settings to define the synchronisation settings for the note.
Positioning (GPS) You can use applications such a s GPS data to find out your location, or measure dista nces and coordinates. These applications require a GPS connection. About GPS The coordinates in the GPS are expressed using the international WGS-84 coordinate system.
You must have an internet access point defined in the device to retrieve ass istance data from the No kia A-GPS service over a packet data connection. The access point for A-GPS can be defined in positioning settings. A wireless LAN (WLAN) access point cannot be used for this service.
Position requests You may receive a request from a network service to receive your position information. Service providers may offer information abou t local topics, such as weather or traffic conditions, based on the location of your device. When you receive a position request, the service that is making the request is displayed.
Route guidance Select Menu > Applicat ions > GPS > GPS data and Navigation . Start the route guidance ou tdoors. If started indoors, the GPS receiver may not receive the necessary information from the satellites. Route guidance uses a rotating compas s on the device display.
• Integrated GPS — Use the integrated GPS receiver of your device. • Assisted GPS — Use Assisted GPS (A-GPS ) to receive assistance data from an assistance data server. • Bluetooth GPS — Use a compatible external GPS receiver with Bluetooth connectivity.
Maps About Maps Select Menu > Applications > GP S > Maps . With Maps, you can see your current location on the map, browse ma ps of different cities and countries, search for places, plan routes from one location to another, save locations, an d send them to compatible devices.
Assisted GPS (A-GP S ) is used to re trieve assistance data over a packet data connection, which assists in calculating the coordinates of your current location when your device is receiv ing signals from satellites. A-GPS is a network service. Move on a map When the GPS connection is active, shows your current location on the map.
Find a place 1. Select Option s > Search > Places . 2. Select from specific categories, or enter the search terms and select Search . 3. Select the place from the list of proposed matches. Plan a route To plan a route, scroll to your start point on the map, press the scroll key, a n d select Add to route .
Synchronise your favourite locations with Ovi Maps The Ovi website contains th e internet services that Nokia provides. The Ovi Maps section contains services related to Maps.
View your valid licences — Select Options > Shop & licences > My licences . View the service s available in other regions — Select Options > Shop & licences > Options > Shops for other regions .
Start navigating by car — Go to a locatio n, press th e scroll key, and select Drive to . When you use car navigati on for the first time, you are asked to select the language of the voice guidance and download the related voice guidance files.
To update the traffic i nformation, select Update traffic info . To set your device to pl an a new route au tomatically to avoid traffic events, in the main view, select Options > Tools > Settings > Navi gation > Reroute due to traffic . Weather information Weather information is only available if you have an active internet connection.
• Map — Define the map settings. • Synchronisation — Define the settings for synchronising saved items with the Ovi web se rvice. Internet settings To define the internet settings, select Opti.
You can also choos e to allo w or avoid using motorways, tunnels, ferries , and toll roads. Map settings To define the map settings, select Options > Tools > Settings > Map and from the following: • Categories — S e l e c t w h a t t y p e o f p o i n t s o f i n t e r e s t you want to see on the map.

Personalisation You can personalis e your device by, for examp le, adjusting the various tones, background images, and screen savers. Profiles Select Menu > Ctrl. panel > Profiles . You can adjust and customis e the ringing tones, alert tones, and other device tones for different events, environments, or caller groups.
Customise profiles Select Menu > Ctrl. panel > Profiles . Select Options > Personalise and from the followi ng: • Ringing tone — Select a ringing tone from the list, or select Download sounds to open a bookmark folder containing a list of bookmarks for downloading tones usin g the browser.
Change the display theme Select Menu > Ctrl. panel > Themes . Select from the following: • General — Change the theme used in all applications. • Menu view — Change the theme used in the main menu. • Home s. — Change the theme used in the home screen.
To enable three-dimensional (3-D) sound effects for ringing ton es, select 3-D ringing tone e ffects > On . Not all ringing tone s support 3–D e ffects. To change the 3–D effect that is applied to the ringing tone, select Sound trajectory and the desired effect.
Media Your device contains a variety of media applicat ions for both business and leisure time use. Camera Select Menu > Media > Camera . Capture an image Select Menu > Media > Camera . Your device supp orts an image capture resolution of 2592x1944 pixels.
To copy the settings of another scene, select Based on scene mod e and the desired scene. To activate y our own scene, select User defin ed > Select .
• Send to caller — Send the video clip to the caller during an active call. • Post to — Send the video clip to an online album (network service). • Delete — Delete the video clip. To enter a new name for the video clip, select Options > Rename v ideo clip .
• Restore camera sett ings — Restore the camera settings to the default values. Gallery About Gallery Select Menu > Media > Gallery . Gallery is a storage p lace for your imag es, video and sound clips, songs, a nd streaming links. Main view Select Menu > Media > Gallery .
With presentations, you can view scalable vector graphics (SVG) an d flash files (SWF), such as cartoons and maps. SVG imag es maintain their appearance when printed or viewed with different screen sizes and resolutions. To view files, select Present ations .
To open a file, select the fi le. When an image opens, to zoom in the image, use th e zoom keys. The zooming ratio is not stored permanently. To edit an image or a video clip, select Options > Edit . To see where an image marked with was captured, select Options > Show on map .
Play the video clip. Send the image or video clip. Upload the image or video clip to a compatible online album (onl y available if you hav e set up an account for a compatible online album). Add the item to an album. Manage tags and other properties of the item.
To end the slide show, select End . To browse the images, scroll left or right. Before starting the slide show, to adjust the slide show settings, select Options > Slide show > Se ttings and from the following: • Music — Add sound to the slide show.
• To zoom in or out, press 5 or 0 . • To move on a zoomed image, scroll up, down, left, or right. Edit videos The video editor supports .3gp and .mp4 video file formats, a nd .aac, .am r, .mp3, an d .wav audio file formats. It does not n ecessa rily support all features of a file format or all the variations of file formats.
If the images do not fit on a sin g le page, scroll up or down to dis play the additio nal pages. Print sett ings The available options vary depending on the capabilities of the printing device you selected. To set a default printer, select Options > Default printer .
To post multimedia files to a service, select a service and Options > New pos t . If the online sharing service provides channels for postin g files, select the desired channel. To add an image, video clip, or sound clip to the post, select Options > Insert .
To start uploading a post, select the post a nd Options > Upload now . To cancel uploading a post , select the post an d Options > Cancel . To delete a post, select th e post and Opti ons > Delete . View service content Select Menu > Media > Share o nline .
To download new items from the service automatically, select Download interval and t he interval for the download s. T o do wnload item s manually, select Manual . Data counters Select Menu > Media > Share online . To check the amount of d ata you have up loaded and downloaded, select Options > Settings > Data transferred .
To reorder songs in a playli st, scroll to the song you want to move, and select Opti ons > Reorder playlist . Nokia Music Store Select Menu > Media > Musi c store . In the Nokia Music Store (n etwork service) you can search, browse, and purchase music to download to your device.
RealPlayer does not necessarily support all v ariations of a media file format. Play video clips and stream links To play a video clip, select Video clips , a nd a clip. To list recently played fi les, in the application main view, select Recently played .
Recorded sound clips are saved in the Sound clips folder in Gallery. To record a telephone conversation, open recorder during a voice call, and select . Both parties hear a tone every 5 seconds during recording. Flash player With Flash p layer, you can view, play, a nd interact with flash files made for mobile devices.
Saved stations Select Menu > Media > Radio . To open the list of your saved sta tions, select Options > Stations . To listen to a saved station, select Optio ns > Station > Listen . To change station details, select Options > Station > Edit .
Security and data management Manage the data and software on your device, and t ake care of the security of th e device and its c ontents. Important: Your device can only support one antivirus application. Having more than one application with antivirus functionality could affect performance and operation or cause the device to stop function ing.
To open a locked memory card, select Opt ions > Unlock memory card . Enter th e password. If you cannot recall the password to unlock a locked memory card, you may reformat the card, in which case the card is unlocked and password removed.
