Touch scr een To control your device, lightly touch the sc reen with your fingertips. The screen does not respond when you use your fing ernails. If your fingertips are cold, the screen may not respond to your touch. To avoid scratching the touch screen, never use a pen, pencil, or other sharp object to write on the touch screen.
2 If the battery is insert ed, lift the battery out. 3 Insert a SIM card. Use the diagram printed on the device to correctly align the card. 4 Line up the contacts of the battery and the battery comp artment, and insert the battery.
Keep all memory cards out of the reach of small children. Switch off the device before inserting a memory card. Insert a memo ry card 1 Remove the back cover of the device. 2 If the battery is inse rt ed, lift the battery out. 3 Insert a compatible memory card into the slot.
4 Push the card in, unti l you hear a click. 5 Pull the card out. Charging Charge the battery Your battery has been partially charged at the factory, but you may need to recharge it before you can switch on your device for the first time.
Charge the battery over USB Battery low, but you don't have a charger with you? You can use a compatible USB cable to connect to a compatible device, such as a computer. To avoid breaking the charger connector, be careful when connecti ng or disconnecting the charger cable.
With Ovi services and your Nokia account, you can, for exam ple: • See your friends' statuses in di fferent social networking services • Download games, applications, videos, pictures, themes.
If your old Nokia device does not have th e Phone switch application, your new device sends it in a message. Open the message in the old device, and follow the instructions. 1 Select the device you want to connect to , and pair the devices. Bluetooth needs to be activate d.
Set the keys an d screen to lock auto matically 1 Select Menu > Settings and Phone > Display > Screen/keylo ck time-out . 2 Define the len gth of tim e after whi ch the keys and screen ar e locked automatically. Antenna locations Avoid touching the antenna a rea unnecessarily while the antenna is transmitting or receiving.

Install Nokia Ovi Suite on your PC With the Nokia Ovi Suite PC application, y o u can mana ge content o n your device, and keep it in sync with your computer. You ca n also update your device with the latest software, and download maps. Download the latest version of Nokia Ovi Su ite from www.
3 Follow the instructions. 4 When the installation is co mplete, if you are using Windows XP or Windows Vi sta on your computer, set the USB mode of your device to Nokia Ovi Suite . On your device, select the notification area in the top right corner, and select > USB > Media transfer .
About Ovi Maps Wit h O vi M ap s on yo ur m ob ile dev ice , you can you can quickly see where you are on a map and get to where you want to go with free drive a nd walk navigation.
Access functions quickly Tap and hold the item. A pop-u p menu with available options op ens. For example, to send an image or delete an alarm, tap and hold the image or ala rm, and from the pop- up menu, select the appropriate option. If you tap and hold the home screen, editing mode is activated.
Drag an item Tap and hold the item, and slide your finger across the sc reen. The item follows your finger. You can drag items in the home screen or the mai n menu, when you have activated editing mode. Swipe Place a finger on the screen, and steadily slide your finger in the desired dir ection.
Zoom in Place two fingers on an item, such as a pict ure or web page, and slide your fingers apart. Zoom out Place two fingers on the item, an d slide your fingers together.
In most other views, you ca n select the no tification area (4), and do the following: • Modify the connectivity settings. • Open the Clock application, and set an ala rm. • View the battery st atus, and ac tivate power savin g mode. • View notifications of missed calls or received messages.
1 Virtual keyboard 2 Close key - Close the virtual keyboard. 3 Shift and caps lock key - To enter an u pper case character when writing in lower case, or vice versa, select the key before entering the chara cter. To activate caps lock mode, select the key twice.
1 Number ke ys 2* - Enter a special character, or when pred ictive text input mode is activated an d the word underlined, cycle through the word candidates. 3 Shift key - Chang e the character cas e. To acti vate or deactivate predictive text input mode, quickly select the key twice.
Move the cursor to the next line Quickly select 0 three times. Activate pred ictive text in put with t he virtual keypa d Predictive text input is based on a built - in dictionary to which you can add new words. Predictive text input is no t available for all languages.
You have set a clock alarm. A timed profile is activated. You have a missed calendar event. Call indicators Someone has tried to call you. You are using your second phone line (network service). You have set your device to dive rt incoming calls to another number (network service).
You have an HSDPA packet data connection (network service). indicates tha t the connection is suspended and that a connection is being established. A WLAN connection is avai lable (network service). indicates that the connection is encrypted and that the connection is not encrypted.
1 Select Menu > Applications > Se arch . 2 Enter a search word in the search fi eld, or browse the content categories. Tip: You can add a search widget to the home screen . With the search widget, you can also search the internet. Ta p and hold the home screen, and select and the search widget from the list.

You can personalise the profiles in the following ways: • Change the ringing and message alert tones. • Adjust the volume of ringing and key tones. • Mute key tones and warning tones. • Activate vibrating al erts. • Set the device to say the name of the cont act who is calling.

Rearrange item s in the home scre en 1 Tap and hold the home screen. 2 Drag and drop items to a new location. Change the wallpaper 1 Tap and hold the home screen. 2 Select Option s > C hange wallpaper . 3 Select the desired picture. Tip: Download more background images fr om Ovi St ore.
Using the service or downloading content may cause transfer of large amounts of data, which may result in data tra ffic costs. Remove a widget from the home screen 1 Tap and hold the home screen. 2 Select the widget, and from the pop-up menu, select Re move .
Telephone Call a phone numbe r 1 In the home screen, select Call to open the dialler, an d enter the phone number. To enter the + character, used for international calls, select * twice. 2 To make the call, press the call key. 3 To end the call, press the end key.
Make a video call to the contact Select and hold the contact, an d in the contact card, select Video call . Deactivate contact search Select Options > Contact search > Off . Reject a call When a call arrives, press the end key. Send a reject call text message 1 When a call arrives, select Silence > Send msg.
Answer a waiting call With Call waiting (network service), you ca n answer a call when you have another call in progress. Press the call key. The first call is put on hold. Activate, d eactivate, or check the status of th e service Select Menu > Sett ings and Calling > Call > Call waiting > Activate , Deactivate , or Check status .
For information on availabilit y and co sts, contact your se rvice provider. Video calls can only be made between two parties. Video calls cannot be made while another voice, video, or data call is active. 1 Select Menu > Contacts , and search for a contact.
Reject a video call When a video call arrives, is displayed. Press the end key. Make a conference call Your device supports conference calls (n etwork service) between a maximum of six participants, including yourself. Vide o conference calls are not supported.
Use speed dial You can quickly call your friends and family when you assign your most-used phone numbers to the number keys of your device. Select Menu > Settings and Calling > Speed dialling . Assign a phone numb er to a number key 1 Select the number key to which you want to a ssign the phone number.
Listen to a voice command for a contact 1 Select a contact and Options > Voice tag details . 2 Select a contact detail. If several number s are saved for a name, you can sa y also the name and the num ber type, such as mobile or telephon e. Tip: You can also use the voice key to start voic e dialling in the home s creen.
Make an internet call to a pho ne number or SIP address 1 In the home screen, select Call to open the dialler, and enter the number. 2 Select Options > Call > Internet call . Call the last dialled number Trying to call someone, but they are not answer in g? It i s e as y to ca l l t he m ag ai n .
Missed and received calls are l ogged only if supported by the network, and th e device is switched on and within the network service area. Call back the contact or number Select the contact or number. To view the missed calls list la ter, in the home screen, select Call to open the dialler, select , and open the missed calls tab .
Prevent ma king or receiving c alls Sometimes you may want to restrict the calls that can be made or received with you r device. With call barring (netwo rk service), you can, for example, restrict all outgoing international calls or incoming calls when you are abroad.
3 Enter the contact name and phone num ber to which calls are allowed, and select Done . To add a co ntact from the conta cts li st to the fixed dia lling list, select Add from Contacts and a contact.

Save phone numbers and mail addresse s You can save your friends' phone nu mbers, mail addresses, an d other information to your contacts list. Select Menu > Contacts . Add a contact to the con tacts list 1 Select Option s > New contact . 2 Select a field, and enter the details.
Select Menu > Contacts . Set a contact as a favourite Select and hold a cont act, and from the pop-up menu, select Add to favourit es . Remove a contact from favourites Select and hold a cont act, and from the pop-up menu, select Remove from favourites .
Create a contact group When you have created contact groups, you ca n send a message to se veral people at the same time. For example, you can assig n the members of your family to one group. Select Menu > Contacts . 1 Open the Groups tab. 2 Select Option s > New group .
Select Menu > Contacts an d Options > Ovi sync . If you allow automatic synchronisa tion, all the changes you make i n the contacts list are automatically backed up to Ovi by Nokia. You need a Nokia account to use Ovi. If you do not have an account, create one at www.
4 Select . Sending a messa ge with an attach ment may be more expensive than sending a norma l text message. For more information, contact your service p rovider. If the item you inserted in a multimedia message is too la rge for the network, the device may automatically reduce the size.
Reply to a recei ved message in the Conversations vi ew Select the text input field at t he bottom of the display, write a m essage, and select . Open a message in the Inbox folder Select Inbox an d a message. Reply to a received m e ssage in the Inb ox view Open a messa ge, and sele ct .

1 Write a mail. 2 Switch between your mailboxes. 3 Sort your mail by, for example, date. 4 Mail in current mailbox. Mail contains interactive elem ents. Select and hold, for exam ple, a mail to view a pop- up menu. Add a mailbo x You can add several mailboxes t o your device.
Read mail You can use your device to read and reply to mail. Select Menu > Applications > Mail . Read a mail Select a mail. To zoom in or out, pinch the screen. Open or save an attachment Select the attachment, and from the pop-up menu, select the appropriate option.
Open mail fro m the home screen You can have several mail widgets in the ho me screen, depending on your device. Each mail widget contains one mailbox. In the wi dget, you can see if yo u have received new mail and the number of unread mails. Add a mail w idget to the home screen In the home screen, select New mailbox , and follow the instructions.
Empty the cache Select Options > Clear privacy data > Cache . Add a bookmark If you visit the same websites all the t ime, add them to your Bookmarks view, so you can easily access t hem. Select Menu > Web . While browsing, select > . Go to a bookmarked website while browsin g Select and a bookmark.
2 Browse the available services, and for more inf ormation, select the service. Some conten t is generated by th ird pa rties and not Nokia. The content may be inaccurate and is subject to availability. Some services may not be available in all coun tries, and may be provided only in selected languages.
Select Menu > Social . 1 Sign in to Ovi by Nokia with your N okia account user name and pa ssword. 2 Select a service, and sign in. 3 Select Add account . 4 Select another service, and sign in. 5 Select All activity . Select the s ervices included in the view Select the account switcher icon, next to the status update field.
Upload a picture to a service With the Social application, you can upload pictures to social networking services. Select Menu > Social . 1 Select . 2 Select to upload a picture.
Contact a friend from a so cial networking service When commenting your fri end's status is not enough, you ca n call or send a message to the friend. Select Menu > Social . 1 Select a friend's profile picture. 2 From the pop-up menu, se lect View contact info .
2 Press the camera key. Do not move the device before the picture is sav ed and the final picture displayed. Save location informat ion to your pictures and videos If you sometimes struggle t o rememb.
• The camera activates battery savi ng mode after about a minute of inacti vity. To activate the camera again , press briefly. • You can set the user defined scene to be used as the default scene every time you open the Camera application. Select > Scene mode > Use r defined > Edit .
View pictures an d videos Select Menu > Photos . Browse the p ictures and vid eos Select a folder, and swipe up or down. View a pictur e in full screen mode Select the picture, and turn yo ur device to landscap e mode. To browse pictures in full scr een mode, swipe left or right.
Video editor About Vide o Editor Select Menu > Applications > Video E ditor . You can combine pictures and videos with soun ds, effects, and text, a nd easily turn them into short movies or slideshows. The following file formats are supported: MP EG4, H263, H263 BL, WMV, JP EG, PNG, BMP, GIF, MP3, AAC/AAC+eAAC+, WAV, and AMR-NB/AMR-WB.
Print a picture you have taken You can print your pictures directly usin g a compatible printer. 1 Use a compatible USB data ca ble to connect your device to a printer in Media transfer mode. 2 Select the picture to print. 3 Select Options > Print .
Videos and TV Videos About Videos With the Videos application, you can watch videos on y our device. Tip: Get new videos from Ovi Store. To learn more about Ovi Store, go to www.ovi.com. Using a packet data access point t o downlo ad a video may involv e the transmission of large amounts of data throug h your service provider's network.
1 Select a Web TV application. To browse We b TV content in the Web TV application, swipe the screen. 2 To start play back, select the th umbnail image. 3 To show or hide the controls during playback , tap the screen. 4 To adjust the volume, use the volume keys.
Tip: To listen to th e songs in a random order, select . Pause and resume playback To pause playback, se lect ; to resume, select . Fast-forward or rewind a song Select and hold or . Tip: When listening to music, you can return to the home screen, leav ing Music player application playing in the background.
Remove a song from playlist In the playlist view, select and hold th e song, and from the pop-up menu, select Remove . This does not delete the song from the devi ce; it only removes it from the play list. Play a playlist Select Options > Playlist s and the playlist.
Manage digital r ights li cences Select Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone mgmt. > Se curity settings > Protected content . Record sounds You can use your device recorder to record sounds from nature, such as birds singing, as well as voice memos.
Play music through a radio Do you want to listen to music at a higher volume, or through bett er quality hi-fi stereo speakers? You can play mu sic through an FM radio. 1 Tune the receiving radio to a free frequency. 2 Select Menu > Music > Music player .
Select Menu > Music > Radio . From the toolbar, select > . To find radio stations, you can use the automat ic scanning, or you can set a frequency manually. The first time you open the FM ra dio, the app lication automatically searches for radio stations audible at your location.
Reorder the list of sav ed stations You can reorder th e list of saved stat ions, so that your favo urites are at the top. Select Menu > Music > Radio . The stations you have saved are li sted in the Station list view. Move a station on the list 1 From the toolbar, select > .
Select Menu > Maps and My position . marks your current position, if available. When your device is searching for your position, blinks. If your position is not available, indicates your last known position. If only cell ID based positioning is availa ble, a red halo around the positioning icon indicates the general area y ou might be in.

Download and update maps To avoid mobile data transfer costs, download the latest maps and voice guida nce files to your computer, and then transfer and save them to your device. Use the Nokia Ovi Suite applicat ion to download the latest maps and voice gu idance files to your compatible computer.
The compass has limited accuracy. Electrom agnetic fields, metal objects, or other external circumstances may also affect the accuracy of th e compass. The compass should always be properly calibrated. About positi oning methods Maps displays you r location on the map using GPS, A-GP S, WLAN, or cell ID based positioning.
The location is displayed on the map. To vi ew the othe r locations of the search result list on the map, select one of the arrows beside the information area ( ).
Save a route 1 Select My position . 2 Tap the location. To search fo r an address or place, select Search . 3 Tap the location's information area ( ). 4 To add another rout e point, select Add to route . 5 Select Add new route point and the appropriate option.
Send a place to your fr iend's compatible de vice Select a location on the map, tap t he location's information area ( ), and select Send . Synchronise your Favourites Plan a trip on your computer at the Ovi Maps website, synchronise the saved places, routes, and c ollections wi th your mobile device, and access the plan on the go.
Manage your Facebook account In the main view, select Accounts > Share loca tion settings > F acebook . Sharing your location and viewing the location of ot hers requires an internet connection. This may involve the transmission of large amounts of data and related data traffic costs.
Drive to your de stination When you need turn-by-turn directions while driving, Maps helps you get to your destination. Select Menu > Maps and Drive . Drive to a destination Select Set destinatio n and the appropriate option. Drive to your home Select Drive home .

The location of speed camera s may be shown on your rout e during navigation, if this feature is enabled. Some ju risdictions prohibit or regu late the use of speed camera location data. Nokia is not responsible for the accuracy, or the co nsequences of using speed camera location data.

Open a file Select the memory where the file is stored, browse to the corr ect folder, and select the file. Make a calculation Select Menu > Applications > Office > Calculator . 1 Enter the first number of the calculation. 2 Select a function, s uch as add or subtract .
1 Enter text in the search field. Suggestions of words to translate are dis played. 2 Select the word from the list. Change the source or ta rget language Select Options > Lang uages > Source or Target . Download more languages from the internet Select Options > Lang uages > Download l anguages .
Remove an alarm Select and h old the alarm, and from th e pop-up menu, select Delete alarm . Snooze an alarm When an alarm sounds, you can snooze the al arm.
In the home screen, select the cl ock, and open the world clock tab. Add a location Select Options > Add location and a locat ion. Set your current location Select and hold a location, and from the pop-up menu, select Set as curre nt location . The time in your device is changed accordin g to the s elected location.
From the toolbar, select > . Add a task t o your to-do list Do you have important ta sks to handle at work, library books to return, or maybe an event you want to attend? Y ou can add tasks (t o-do notes) to your calenda r. If you have a particular deadline, set a reminder.
3 Enter a name, and s et a colour code for the calenda r. 4 Define the visibility for the calend ar. When a calendar is hidd en, the calendar entries and reminders are not displayed in different calendar views or in the home screen. Modify calendar settings In the Manage calendars view, select the desired calendar.
Warning: If you install a software update, you cannot use the device, even to make eme rgency calls, until the installat ion is completed and the device is restarted. After you update your device software or ap plications, the instruct ions in the user guide may no longer be up to date.
Organise files You can use the Fi le manager application to delete, move, copy, or create new files and folders. If you organise your files into their own folders, it might help you find the files in future. Select Menu > Applications > Office > File mgr.
• Pictures and videos in Photos. Back up the files to a compatible computer. Tip: If expired trial or demo applicat ions are installed, remove them. Manage applicatio ns About Application ma nager Select Menu > Settings and Application manager .
Synchronise content About Sync Select Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Data transfer > Sync . With the Sync application, you can synchronis e your contacts, notes, and other content between your device and a remote server. After the synchronisation, you have a back- up of your important data on the server.
About Ovi Sync Select Menu > Applicat ions > Tools > Ovi sync . With Ovi Sync , you can sync hronise contac ts, calendar entries , and notes between your device and Ovi by Nokia. This wa y you always have a backup of your important content. To use Ovi Sync, you need a Nokia ac count.
— Copy content fro m another device. — Copy content to another devic e. 2 Select the device you want to connect to , and pair the devices. Bluetooth needs to be activated. 3 If the other device requires a passcode, enter the passcode. The pas scode, which you can define yourself, mu st be entere d in both devices.
Enable remote locking 1 Select Menu > Settings and Phone > Phone mgmt . > Security sett ings > Phone and SIM card > Remote phone locking > Enabled . 2 Enter the text message cont ent. It can be 5-20 cha racters, and both upper an d lower case letters can be used.
To set the dev ice to automat ically connect, select Data use when roami ng > Automati c . Opening connections when abroad can raise data transfer costs substantially. Wireless LAN About WLAN connections Select Menu > Settin gs and Connectivity > WLAN .
Connect to a WLAN on the move Connecting to a WLAN is a handy way of accessing th e internet when not at home. Connect to public WLANs in public places , such as a library or internet café.
Connect to a wireless headse t With a wireless headset you can answer a call even i f y o u r d e v i c e i s n o t d i r e c t l y a t h a n d , and you can ha ve your hands free, for examp le, to continue working at your computer during a call. 1 Select Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Bluetooth > On .
2 To activate remote SIM mode in your device, select Rem ote SIM mo de > On . 3 Activate Bluetooth in the car kit accessory. When remote SIM mode is activate d, Remote SIM mode is displayed in the home screen.
3 Use the file manager of th e computer to copy the content. Change the USB mode For best resu lts when copying content or syn c hronising your dev ice with your computer, activate the appropriat e USB mode wh en usin g a USB data cable to connect to va rious devices.
The File manager appl ication opens, and the memory stick is displayed as a mass memory. Copy or move a file In File mgr., select and hold the file you want to copy or move, and from the pop-u p menu, select the desire d option and the target folder.
Select Menu > Settings and Con nectivity > Remote drives . You may receive the remote drive settings as a configuration message from your service provider. Open the message, and save the set tings. The service may be chargeable. For inform at ion on availability and possible costs, contact your service provider.
Access codes PIN code — This code protects your SIM card against unauthoris ed use. The PIN code (4 - 8 digits) is usually supplied wi th the SIM card. PIN2 code — This code (4 - 8 digits) is supp lied with some SIM cards, and is required to access some functions in your device.
• Not enough memory t o perform operation . Delete some data first. • Memory low. Delete so me data from phone memory. Move data you want to keep to the ma ss memory or to a compatible comp uter. If possible, inst all applications to the mass memo ry, rather than th e device memory.
Green tips Save energy You do not need to charge your battery so often if you do the following (if available for your device): • Close applications and data connections, for example, your Bluetooth connection, when not in use. • Decrease the brightness of the screen.
Take care of your device Handle your device, battery, charger and accessories with ca re. The following suggestions help you protect your war ranty coverag e. • Keep the device d ry. Precipitatio n, humidity, and all ty pes of liquids or moisture can contain minerals that corrod e electro nic circui ts.
Digital rights management (DRM) protected content comes with an associated licence that defines your rights to use the content. If your device has OMA DRM-protect ed conten t, to bac k up both the licenc es and the content, use the backup feature o f Nokia Ovi Suite.
Battery and char ger information This device is intended for use with a BL-5K rechargea ble battery. Nokia may make additional batt ery models available for this device.
