1. General information About your device The wire less dev ice descri be d in this guide is approved for use on the GSM 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz networks.
● The PIN (UPIN) code, supp lied with the SIM (USIM) card, helps t o protect the card against unauthorised u se. ● The PIN2 (UPIN2) code, sup plied with some SIM (USI M) cards, is required to access certain services. ● PUK (UPUK) and PUK2 (UPUK2) codes may be su pplied with the SIM (USIM) card.
Important: Use only services that you trust and that offer a dequate security and protection against harmful s oftware. For the availability of different services and pricing, contact your service provider. The SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending, so be careful when handli ng, inserting, or removing the card. 1. Slide the cover (1), and remove it. Remove the battery (2). 2. Open the SIM card holder (3). Insert the SIM card with th e contact surface facing down into the holder (4).
Remove the memory card Important: Do not re move the memory card in the middle of an operation when the card is being accessed. Removing the ca rd in the middle of an operation may damage the memory card as well as t he device, and data stored on the ca rd may be corrupted.
2. Connect the charger to the device. During charging, the reminder light flashes up about every 30 seconds. 3. When the battery is fully charged, disconnect the charger from the device, then from the wall outlet.
When connecting any external device or any headset, ot her th an those approved by Nokia for use with thi s device, to the Nokia AV Connector, pay special attention to volume levels. Do not connect products tha t create an output signal as this may cause damage t o the device.

5. Messaging You can read, write, se nd and save text and multimed ia messages, e-mail, a udio and flash messages. The messaging se rvices can only be used if they are s upported by your network or service provider. Text and multimedia messages You can create a message and op tionally a ttach, for example, a picture.

E-mail Access your POP3 or IMAP4 e-mail account with your phone to read, write and send e- mail. This e-mail application is diffe rent from the SMS e-mail function. Before you can use e-mail, you must ha ve an e-mail account and the correct se ttings.

Service commands Service commands allow y ou to write and send service requests (US SD commands) to your service provider, such as acti vation commands for network services. To write and send the service request, select Menu > Messaging > Serv. commands .
Manage contacts Select the memory f or contacts The phone memory can save con tacts with a dditional details, such as various phone numbers and text it ems. You can also sa ve an image, a tone, or a video clip for a limited number of contacts. The SIM card memory can save names with one phone number atta ched to them.
2. To create a new group, select Add or Options > Add new group . 3. Enter the group name, select an image a nd a ringing tone if you want to add them to the group, and select Save . 4. Select the group and View > Add to add cont acts to the g roup.
9. Connectivity Your phone provides several features to conn ect to other devices to transmit and receive data. Bluetooth wireless technology Bluetooth technology allows you to connect your phone, using radio waves, t o a compatible Bluetooth device within 10 metre s (32 feet).
Packet data General packet radio service (G PRS) is a network service that allows mobile phones to send and receive data over an inte rnet protocol (IP)-based network. To define how to use the service, select Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Packe t data > Packet data conn.
● Data tra nsfer — Synchronise or copy selected data between your phone and another device, PC, or network server (network service). Nokia PC Suite With Nokia PC Suite, you can manag e your music, synchron ise contacts, calend ar, notes, and to-do notes between your phone and a co mpatible PC or a re mote internet server (network service).
Display Select Menu > Settings > Display and from the following: ● Wallpaper — to add a background image for the standby mode ● Home screen — to acti vate, organise, and personalise the .
● Home screen key — to select the movement of the navigation key to activate the home screen mode Call Select Menu > Settin gs > Call and from the following: ● Call divert — to divert your incoming calls (network serv ice). You may not be able to divert your calls if some call barring functions are active.
● Fold close handling — to select the behaviour of the phone when the fold is closed ● Confirm SIM actions — (network service) See "SIM services" , p. 49 . Voice commands Call contacts and use your ph on e by speaking a voice command.
● Device manager sett. — to allow or prevent the phone from receiving software updates. This option may not be av ailable, depending on your p hone. See "Software updates over the air" , p. 35 . ● Personal co nfig. sett. — to ma nually add new pe rsonal accounts for v arious services and to activate or delete them .
Select Menu > Settings > Security and from the following: ● PIN code reques t or UPIN code reque st — to request for your PIN or UPIN code every time the phone is switched on.
12. Gallery Manage images, video clips, music files, themes, graphics, tones, recordings, and received files. These files are stored in th e phone memory or on a memory card and may be arranged in folders. Folders and files To view the list of folders, select Menu > Gallery .

Play songs Warning: Listen to music at a moderate le vel. Continuous exposure to high volume may damage your hearing. Do not hold the device near your ear when the loudspeaker is in use, because th e volume may be extremely loud. To adjust the volume leve l, press the volume keys.
Tune in to radio stations Search and save stat ions 1. To start the sea rch, select and hold or . To change the radio frequency in 0.05 MHz steps, briefly press or . 2. To save a stat ion to a memory location , select Option s > Save station . 3. To enter the name of the radio station, select Options > Stations > Opti ons > Rename .
Select Menu > Media > Voice recorder . To use the graphical keys , , or on the display, scroll left or right. Record sound 1. Select , or, du ring a call , select Option s > Record . While recording a call, all parties to the call hear a faint beep ing.
Stop the alarm To stop the so unding alarm, select Stop . If yo u let the alar m sound for a minute or s elect Snooze , the alarm stops for th e snooze time-out, then resumes. Calendar Select Menu > Organiser > Calendar . The current day is framed.
Network map service You can set your phone to automatica lly download maps that you do not have in your phone when needed. Select Menu > Organiser > Maps > Settings > Network settings > Allow network usage > Yes or In home network . To prevent automatic download of ma ps, select No .
The navigation licen ce is connected to your SIM card. If you insert another SIM card in your phone, you are asked to purchas e a licence when starting na vigation. During the purchase procedure, you are offered to transfer the existing navigation licenc e to the new SIM card w ithout extr a charge.
Stopwatch You can measure time, take int ermediate time s, or take lap times using the sto pwatch. Select Menu > Organiser > S topwatch and from the following options: ● Split timing — to take in termediate time s. To reset the time without saving it, select Options > Reset .
