8 For your safety Read these simple guidelines. Not following them may be dangerous or illegal. Read the complete user guide for further inf ormation. SWITCH ON SA FELY Do not switch the phone on when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger.
9 CONNECT ING TO OTHER PHONES When connecting to any other phone, re ad its user guide for detailed safety instructio ns. Do not connect incompatible products. EMERGENCY C ALLS Ensure the phone function of the phone is switched on and in service. Press as many times as needed to clear the display and retu rn to the start screen.
10 This device supports WAP 2.0 protocols (HTTP and SSL) that run on TCP/IP protocols. Some features of this device, such as MMS, browsing, e-mail and content downloading via browser or over MMS, require network support for these technologies. Enhancements, batteries, and chargers Check the model number of an y charger before use with this phone.
Before use 11 Before use Insert the SIM or USIM card and battery Glossary: The USIM card is an enha nced version of the SIM card and is supported by WCDMA mobile phones. 1 With the back of the phone facing you, press the release button ( 1 ), and slide the cover in the direction of the arrow ( 2 ).
Before use 12 6 Insert the battery ( 10 ). 7 Replace the back cover. Insert the memory card Use your memory card to save the memory on the device. In the sales package, you can find: • The memory card (Reduced Size MultiMediaCard, RSMMC) •MultiMediaCard (MMC) adapter The adapter is not needed when you use the memory card in the device.
Before use 13 Eject the memory card 1 Open the door of the memory card slot. 2 Press the memory card to release it from the slot ( 14 ). 3 Remove the memory car d. If the device is switched on, press OK . Do not open the memory card slot door in the middle of an oper ation.
Before use 14 Keys and parts • Power key ( 1 ) • Memory ca rd slot ( 2 ) • End key ( 3 ) • The Clear key ( 4 ) deletes text and items. • The Edit key ( 5 ) opens a list of commands when you edit text, such as Copy , Cut , and Paste . • ( 6 ) is pressed and held, and then the device connects to the Web .
Before use 15 • Press the Voice key ( 16 ) during a call to change between the handset and loudspeaker. Press and hold in the standby mode to activate voice commands. •O p e n t h e c a m e r a lens cover ( 17 ) to activate the back camera. This als o deactivates the keypad lock, if it is on.
Before use 16 The device has a built-in a ntenna. Note: As with any other radio transmitting device, do not touch the antenna unnecessarily when the device is switched on. Contact with the antenna affects call quality and may cause the device to operate at a higher power level than otherwise needed.
Before use 17 Because MMS and Web access for Vodafone are preconfigured, there is no need for con figuration. Essential indicators The device is being used in a GSM network. The device is being used in a WCDMA network. There is a new message in the voice mailbox service centre.
Before use 18 Keypad lock (Keyguard) Use the keypad lock to prevent the keys from being accidentally pressed. To lock: In the standby mode, press , then . When the keys are locked, is shown on the display. To unlock: Press , then . When the keypad lock is on, calls still may be possi ble to the official emergency number programmed into the device.
Before use 19 Tips for efficient use • To mark an item in a list, scroll to it, and press and at the same time. • To mark multiple items in a list, press and hold , while you press or . A check mark is placed next to the selected items. To en d the selection, release the scroll key, then release .

Personalise the device 21 Personalise the device Note: Your service provider or network operator may have requested a different order for menu items or the inclusion of different icons in the phone menu. Contact your service provider or network operator regarding any features of your phone that differ from those described in this guide.
Personalise the device 22 Clock Options in Clock ar e Set alarm , Reset alarm , Remove alarm , Settings , Help , and Exit . Press , and select Office > Clock . To set a new alarm, selec t Options > Set alarm . Enter the alarm time, a nd select OK .
Personalise the device 23 World clock Open Clock , and press to open the world clock view. In the world clock view, you can view the time in different cities. To add cities to the list, selec t Optio ns > Add cit y . Enter the first letters of the city name.
Personalise the device 24 To modify a profile, select Profiles . Scroll to the profile, and select Options > Pe rsonalise . Scroll to the setting you want to change, and press to open the choices. Tones stored on the memory card are indicated with .
Personalise the device 25 Transfer content from another phone You can copy contac ts, calendar, images, video, and sound clips using a Bluetooth connection, from a compatible Nokia Series 60 phone. You can use the device without a SIM card. Offline profile is automatically activated when the device is switched on without a SIM card.
Personalise the device 26 Change the look of the device To change the look of the device display, such as the wallpaper, colour set, and icons, press , and select Tools > Th emes . The active theme is indicat ed by . In Themes you can group together elem ents from other themes or select images from the Gallery to personalise themes further.

Make calls 28 Make calls Voice call Tip: To increase or decrease the volume during a call, press or . 1 In the standby mode, enter the phone number, including the area code.
Make calls 29 Video call When you make a video call, you can see a real-time, two-way video between you and the recipient of the call. The video image captured by ei ther camera in your phone will be shown to the video call recipient. Tip: Use the camera lens cover to switch between the front and back cameras.
Make calls 30 Speed dial a phone number To assign a phone number to one of the speed dialling keys ( — ), press , and select Tools > Speed dial . is reserved for the voice mailbox. If Contacts are opened, a receiver mark is sh own on the right side of the telephone number registered as a speed dial.
Make calls 31 Volume and loudspeaker control To increase or decrease the volume level, when you have an active call or are listening to a sound, press or , respectively. The built-in loudspeaker allows you to speak and listen to the phone from a short distance without having to hold the phone to your ear, for example, having it on a table nearby.
Make calls 32 Answer or reject a video call When a video call arxrives, you can se e . 1 Press to answer the video call. Allow video image to be sent to calle r? is shown. If you select Yes , the image being captured by the camera in your phone is sh own to the caller.
Make calls 33 Send MMS (in WCDMA networks on ly)—To send an image or a video in a multimedia me ssage to the other participant of the call. Press to send the file to a compatible device (network service). Send DTMF —To send DTMF tone strings, for example, a password.
Make calls 34 Call duration To monitor the approximate du ration of your incoming and outgoing calls, press , and select Log > Call duration . Note: The actual time invoiced for calls by your service provider may vary, depending on network features, rounding off fo r billing, and so forth.
Make calls 35 Note: When sending messages, your phone may display Send. This is an indication that the message has been sent by the device to the message centre number programmed into your phone. This is not an indication that the me ssage has been received at the intended destination.
Contacts (Phonebook) 36 Contacts (Phonebook) Press , and select Contacts . In Contacts , you can add a personal ringing tone, voice tag, or a thumbnail image to a contact. You can also create contact groups, which allow you to send text mess ages or e-mail to many recipients at the same time.
Contacts (Phonebook) 37 Default numbers and addresses You can assign default numbers or addresses to a contact. In this way if a contact h as several nu mbers or addre sses, you can easily call or send a message to the contact to a certain number or address.
Contacts (Phonebook) 38 Add ringing tones for contacts When a contact or group member calls you, the phone plays the chosen ringing tone (if the caller’s telephone number is sent with t he call and the device recognises it). Tip: Speed dialling is a quick way to call frequently used numbers.
Contacts (Phonebook) 39 Add a voice tag Example: You can use a person’s name as a voice tag. You can have only one voice tag per contact. You can add a voice tag to up to 50 phone numbers. 1 In Contacts , open the contact to which you want to add a voice tag.
Contacts (Phonebook) 40 Remove members from a group 1 In the groups list, open the group you want to modify. 2 Scroll to the contact, and select Options > Remove from group . 3 Select Yes to remove the contact from the group. Tip: To check to which groups a contact belongs, scroll to t he contact, and s elect Options > Belo ngs to groups .
Camera and Gallery 41 Camera and Gallery Camera Respect the personal rights of others and obey the local laws, regulations, and cust oms when t aking and using images or video clips . The device has two ca meras, a high resolution cam era on the back of the device, and a lower reso lution camera on the front.
Camera and Gallery 42 Take pictures Press or to move between Image and Video views . Open the Image view. Options before taking a picture are Capture , New , Flash (back camera only), Use front camera / Use back camera , Activate night mode / Deact.
Camera and Gallery 43 Saving the captured image may take longe r if you have changed the zoom, lighting, or colour settings. When taking a pi cture, note t h e f o l l o w i n g : • It is recommended to use both hands to keep the camera still. • To take images or record vi deo in a dark environment, use the night mode.
Camera and Gallery 44 You in the picture—self-timer Use the self-timer to delay the taking of a picture so that you can include yourself in the picture. To set the self- timer delay, select Optio ns > Self -timer > 10 s econds , 20 seconds , or 30 second s .
Camera and Gallery 45 Show captured image —Select Yes if you want to see the captured image after it has been taken, or No if you want to continue taking pictures immediately. Image resol ution (back camera only)—S elect the resolution you want to use for the images you are going to take.
Camera and Gallery 46 To make lighting and colour adjustments before taking a picture, select Options > Adj ust > Brig htness , Contrast , White balance (back cam era only), or Colour tone (back camera only). See "Adjust colour and lighting" on page 44.
Camera and Gallery 47 Gallery To store and organise your im ages, sound clips, playlists, video clips, streaming link s, and .ram files, press , and select Gallery . Select Images ( ), Video clips ( ), Tracks ( ), Sound clip ( ), Link ( ), or All files ( ), and press to open it.
Camera and Gallery 48 To zoom an image, select Options > Zoom in or Zoom out . You can see the zooming ratio at the top of the display. The zooming ratio is not stored permanently. Press and hold to return the z ooming ratio to the normal view. To see other parts of an image, select Options > Full screen .
Imaging 49 Imaging Video editor To create custom video clips, press , and sele ct Office > Vid. editor . To create custom video clips, combine and trim video clips, and add sound clips, transitions, and effects. Transitions are visual effects that you can add in the beginning and end of the video or between the vi deo clips.
Imaging 50 • Add colour effect —Inserts a colour e ffect on the video clip. • Use slow motion —Slows the speed of the video clip. • Mute sound / Unmute sound —Mutes or unmutes the original video clip sound. • Remove —Removes the video clip from the video.
Imaging 51 Image manager To browse your imag es visually, press , and select Office > Image mgr. . 1 Press to select: Phone memory , or Memory card . Image manager also shows how many folders or images are in the selected folder. 2 Open a folder to browse your images visually.
Imaging 52 Print preview After you select a printing device, the images that you selected are displayed using pr edefined layouts. To change the layout, use the left and right scroll key to scroll through the available layouts fo r the selected printer.
Imaging 53 Repeat and random Mute Shortcuts during play: To fast forward media files, p ress an d hold . To rewind, press and hold . To mute the sound, press and hold until the indicator is displayed. To turn on the sound, press and hold until you see the indicator.
Imaging 54 Audio settings —To select if you want to repeat playing of track lists and play sound clips on a track list in random order. Connection se ttings —To select whether to use a proxy server, change the default a ccess point, and set the time- outs and port range used when connecting.
Messaging 55 Messaging Note: The following functions cannot be used in Japan. • Creating special text messages containing data • Receiving Web service messages or cell broadcast messages • Sendi ng service commands Press , and select Messaging .

Delivery report —You can request the network to send you a delivery report of the text messages and multimedia messages you have sent (network service).
Messaging 57 Entering text The input mode indicator is di splayed at the top right of the text input screen. If you select English in the phone language menu, the input mode is alphabet by default. If you select Japanese, the input mode is Hira gana/Kanji by default.

Messaging 64 Enter and send messages The appearance of a multimedia message may vary, depending on the receiving device. Copyright protections may prevent some images, ringing tones, and other content from being copied, modified, transferred, or forwarded.
Messaging 65 8 To send the message, select Options > Send , or press . Note: The device supports the sending of text messages beyond the norm al 160-character limit. If your message exceeds 160 charact ers, it will be sent as a series of two or more messages and sending may cost you more.
Messaging 66 Receive MMS and e-mail settings Note: This function cannot be us ed in Japan. You may receive the settings in a text message from your network operator or service provider. See "Data and settings" on page 67. For availability of and s ubscription to data services , contact your network operator or service provider.
Messaging 67 Multimedia messages Important: Multimedia message objects may contain viruses or otherw ise be harmful to the device or PC. Do not open any attachment if you are not sure of the trustworthiness of the sende r. In a multimedia message notification mail, is displayed with !.
Messaging 68 Tip: To change the default access point settings for multimedia messaging, select Messaging > Options > Settings > Multimedia message > Access point in us e . Calendar e ntry —To save the invitation, select Options > Save to Calendar .
Messaging 69 Open the mailbox When you open the mailbox, you can choose whether you want to view the previously retrieved e-mail messag es and e-mail headings offline or co nnect to the e-mail server. When you scroll to your mailbox, and press , the phone asks you if you want to Connect to mailbox? .
Messaging 70 E-mail status icons: New e-mail (offline or online mode): the content has not been retrieved to th e device (arrow outwards). New e-mail: the content ha s been retrieved to the device (arrow inwards). The e-mail message has been read. The e-mail heading that has been read and the message content has been deleted from the device.
Messaging 71 To delete the contents of an e-mail message from the device and the remote mailbox, select Option s > Delete msg. from: > Phone and server . If you are offline, the e-mail is deleted first from the device. During the next connection to the remote mailbox, it is automatically deleted fr om the remote mailbox.
Messaging 72 Deferred —You can set documents to be on hold while they are in Outbox . Scroll to a message that is being sent, and select Opt ions > Defer sending . Failed —The maximum number of sending attempts has been reached. Sending has f ailed.
Messaging 73 Message validity —If the recipient of a message cannot be reached within the validity pe riod, the message is removed from the message centre. The network must support this feature. Maximum time is the maximum amount of time allowed by the network.
Messaging 74 prevents you from sending messages that are not supported. Access point in use ( Must be defined )—Select which access point is used as the preferred conn ection for the multimedia message centre. Note: If there is no information for modifications from Vodafone, do no t modify it.
Messaging 75 E-mail Select Messaging > Options > Settings > E-mail , or in the mailbox main view, select Options > E-mail settings and from the following: Mailbox in use —Select which mailbox you want to use for sending e-mail. Mailboxes —Opens a list of mailboxes that have been defined.
Messaging 76 Security (ports) —Used with the POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP protocols to secure the connection to the remote mailbox. APOP secure login (not shown if IMAP4 is selected for Mailbox type )—Used with the POP3 protocol to encrypt the sending of passwords to the remote e-mail server while connecting to the mailbox.
Messaging 77 Cell broadcast Check the available topics and related topic numbers with your service provider, and select Messaging > Options > Settings > Cell broadcast to change th e settings . Language — All allows you to rec eive cell broadcast messages in all supported languages.
Calendar 78 Calendar Shortcut: Press any key ( — ) in any calendar view. A meeting entry opens, and the characters you enter are added to th e Subject field.
Calendar 79 Tip: To send a calendar note to a compatible phone, select Options > Send > Text msg. , Multimedia message , or Bluetooth . Calendar views Tip: Select Options > Sett ings to change the view that is shown when you open the ca lendar or the starting day of the week.
Calendar 80 To remove more than one event at a time, go to the Month view, select Options > Delete entry , and select one of the following: • Before date —Deletes all calendar entries that take place before a certain date you define. • All entries —Deletes all calendar entries.
Web 81 Web Various service providers ma intain pages specifi cally designed for mobile devices. To access these pages, press , and select Office > Web . These pages use the wireless markup language (WML), extensible hypertext mar kup language (XHTML), or hypert ext markup la nguage (HTM L).
Web 82 Bookmark Glossary: A bookmark consists of an Internet address (mandatory), bookmark title, and an access point. Some Web pages also require a user name and password.
Web 83 Make a connection Once you have stored all the required connectio n settings, you can access the pages. 1 Select a bookmark or ent er the address in the field ( ). When you enter the address, matching bookmarks are shown above the field. Press to select a matching boo kmark.
Web 84 Tip: To access the bookmarks view while browsing, press and hold down . To return to the browser view again, select Options > Back to page. To save a page while browsing, select Options > Advanced options > Save page . You can save pages either to the phone memory or on a memory card, and browse them when offline.
Web 85 Options in the saved pages view are Open , Back to page , Rel oad , Saved pages , Mark/Unmark , N aviga tion options , Advanced options , Details , Sett ings , Help , and Exit . To open the saved pages view, press in the bookmarks view. In the saved pages view, press to open a saved page ( ).

Note: This calculator has lim ited accuracy and is designed for simple calculations. To save a number in the memory (indicated by M ), select Options > Memory > Save .
Office 89 Set base currency an d exchange rates Tip: To cha nge the conversion order, ente r the value in the second Amount field. The result is shown in the first Amount field. Before you can make currency conversions, you need to choose a base currency and add exchange rates.
Office 90 Notes Press , and select Office > Notes to enter notes. You can send notes to other compatible devices and save plain text files (TXT form at) that you re ceive to Notes . Recorder Press , and select Office > Recorder to record telephone conversations and voice memos.

You can also send the note as a message. 1 Select the Personal notes category from the main Wallet menu, and press .
Shortcut wallet 94 View ticket details You can receive notifications of tickets pu rchased online through th e browser. Re ceived notific ations are stored in the wallet. To view the notifications: 1 Select the Tickets category from the main Wal let menu, and press .
Connectivity 95 Connectivity Bluetooth connection Bluetooth technology enable s wireless connections to send images, video cli ps, music and sound clips, and notes, or to connect wirelessly to compatible de vices with Bluetooth technology such as computers.
Connectivity 96 Send data using a Bluetooth connection There can be only one active Bluetooth connection at a time. 1 Open an application where th e item you wish to send is stored. For example, to send an image to another compatible device, open Gallery .
Connectivity 97 When the connection has been e stablished, the note Sending data is shown. The Sent folder in Messaging does not store messages sent using a Bluetooth connection.
Connectivity 98 Receive data using a Bluetooth connection When you receive data usin g a Bluetooth connection, a tone sounds, and you are asked if you want to accept the message. If you accept, is shown o n the top of the screen, and the item is placed in the In box folder in Messaging .

Connectivity 100 The synchronisation applicatio n uses SyncML technology for synchronisation. Connectivity 102 Server password —Enter a password to identify your phone to the server. Access point —Select an access point to be used when connecting to the server. Host address —Enter the URL address of the server. Port —Enter the port number of the server.
Tools 103 Tools Settings To change settings, press , and select Tools > Settings . Scroll to a setting group, and press to open it. Scroll to a setting you want to change, and press .
Tools 104 Left selection key —To assign a shortcut to the right selection key ( ) in the standby mode, select an application from the list. Right selection key —To assign a sho rtcut to the right selection key ( ) in the standby mode, select an application from the list.

Replace intl. pr efix —If you have a specific international call prefix number when making an international call from Japan, select Yes and enter the international call prefix number.
Tools 106 Connection settings Data connectio ns and access points The device supports packet data c onnections ( ), such as GPRS in the GSM network. Glossary: Gene ral packet radio service (GPRS) uses packet data techno logy where information is sent in short packets of data over the mobile network.
Tools 107 Receive access point settings You may receive access point settings in a text message from a service provider, or you may have p reset access point settings in the device. See "Data and settings" on page 67 . To create a new access point, select Tools > Sett ings > Connecti on > Access points .
Tools 108 Password —A password may be needed to ma ke a data connection, and is usually provided by the service provider. The password is often case- sensitive . Authentication —Select Norm al or Secure . Homepage —Depending on what you are setting up, enter the Web address or the a ddress of the multimedia messaging centre.
Tools 109 Date and time See "Clock settings" on page 22. See also the language settings in "Gener al" o n pa g e 103. Security Phone and SIM PIN code request —When active, the code is requested each time the device is switched on.
Tools 110 Note: The following functions cannot currently be used. •Fixed dialling •Closed user group •Confirm SIM services Fixed dialling —You can restrict calls and text messages from the device to selected phone numbers, if supported by your SIM card.
