1 1. Safety At A Glance Read these simple guidelin es before using your phone. Failure to comply with these guidelines may be dange rous or i llega l. 3 2. Ge tting Connec ted You’ re ba tte ry sh ould be charg ed be for e you ac tiva te your new phon e. This sectio n will help familia rize yo u on how , and wh en, to charge your batte ry. Attachin g your battery Simply place the battery in the grooves on the back of your p hone.
4 Charging your new ba ttery Your p hone can be used with ei ther a r echargeab le Li-Ion or NiMH batte ry. Note that a new battery’s fu ll perfo rmance is ac hieved only after two o r three compl ete char ge and discharg e cycl es. With y our phone on or of f, conn ect th e charger to a stand ard 120V AC outlet .
5 When is char ging comple te? Whe n the charg e indi cato rs sto p scro lling, your phone is cons idered fu lly charged. However, a sligh t increa se in cha rge may oc cur if you r phon e is left con nect ed to the cha rger for a whi le. This is called “tr ickle ch arge.
6 Importa nt Battery In formation • The batt ery can be ch arged and d ischarged hu ndreds of times but i t will eventu ally wear out. When the operating time (ta lk time and standb y time) is noticeab ly shorter than normal, i t is time to b uy a new battery.
7 3. The B asics You have purchased a powerful phone, with lots of feat ures. Rea d this se ction for some very b asic infor mation on how to use your phon e. A more comprehensive descrip tion of your phone is covered in “Features A to Z” starting on page 16.
8 Checking signal str ength When yo u are a t the s tart sc reen (see page 12) or in a call, the sig nal stren gth is in dicated b y the indicator s on th e left side of your phone ’s display . These i ndicators s croll as th e streng th of t he sign al incr eases a nd dec reases.
9 W ant to stop your pho ne from ringing without answering the call? Press ô whe n the phone rings. This keeps y ou fr om ans wering a call if it's in con venient to talk . You can still answer the call if Call or the na me of the pers on who is calling is s till flashin g on you r display.

11 4. Using Y our Phone The first few da ys you have yo ur ph one, play wi th it to learn how the menu and submenu system works. The mor e you l earn how to acce ss thes e menus and submenus, the more fun you’l l have with your phone. This section describes the different methods of using your phone menus and submenus.
12 For ex ample, pre ss Menu once. The scroll bar appears with the first (top) ta b displayed. A differen t tab appears each t ime you pres s the W or V ke y to move up and down through the menu stru cture. The scroll bar works the same way with submenus.
13 Using shor tcuts This i s a qui ck and easy w ay t o access a menu w ithout having to scroll through other menus. Press Menu , the n menu number, then submenu number. Press the menu and submenu numbers within a couple of seconds of each oth er when using this method.

16 5. Featu res A to Z ABC mode This allows you to enter name s into your phone book. See “Ent ering letters and numbers” on page 3 5 . Access co des This is a se curity fea ture that allo ws you access to cert ain ph one fe atures , suc h as t he ph one lo ck ( pag e 51 ) and unlock ed ph one n umber ( page 69 ).
17 Snoo zing Press Sn ooze . The al arm will go off again in 10 minutes. If you l et the phone al arm for 1 minut e without pre ssing a key, i t stops alarming for 10 minutes then starts again. T urnin g the al arm cl ock off Press Menu 4 2 2 ( Setti ngs - Phone sett ings - Alarm clock ), then scroll to Off and press OK .
18 Auto matic redial Your p hone will r edial th e number y ou’re tryi ng to cal l up to 3 times after you he ar a quick, busy signal. Press ô to stop the ca ll attempts . This fe ature attemp ts to redial num bers that are busy due to the wireless network.

21 Option 2: Make note With this option, you’ll need to choose Remin der , Call , Meeting , or Birthday . Your phone will prompt you for more information depending on which one you choose.
22 Call forw arding This n etwork servi ce is u sed to forwar d incom ing ca lls to anoth er number so you won’t m iss an important ca ll. Chec k with your se rvice provid er for d etails. Note: Before you can activate th is feature, you shoul d first store the feature code given to you by your ser vice provi der .
23 Call log This f eature automati cally keeps track of numbers you’ve di aled, numbers that ha ve called yo u, and the am oun t of time yo u’ve spent on calls . Us ing c all log 1. 24 Ca ll res tric tions This f eature allows you to re strict in comin g and outgoing calls to and from certain numbers. See “Restric t calls” on page 55 for detail s. Call settings This f eature al lows you t o access a nd acti vate some of your phon e’s fea tures .

26 4. Once the fea ture co de has been con firmed, the fea ture is act ivate d. Caller groups You can create groups of name s in your Phone boo k (see page 49 ) , and gi ve each group a diff erent ringi ng tone. Then you’ll know when someone from that group is calling you beca use of the way the phone rings.

31 Careful : Clear ing call ti mers can not be undone. If yo u are using th e call timers to log or tr ack the amou nt of time you are using your phone, you ma y wish to record the call timers before you erase t hem. Note: The Life timer c ontains import ant warranty information and ca n not be reset.
32 Displaying or hi ding the clock 1. Press Menu 4 2 1 ( Settings - Pho ne settings - Clock ) 2. Scrol l to either Hide cl ock or Displ ay clock (only one will display depen ding o n the current se tting) 3. Press Select Confer ence c all This fe ature a llows y ou to a dd a third p arty to a call.
33 Activating the curr ent call timer Press Menu 2 5 ( Call log - Call tim ers ) and p ress Details . With Cur rent c all time r displa yed, press Select , scroll t o On , and press OK Custom er care con tact number With the p ress of a single butt on, you can q uickly attempt calls to your service pr ovider.
34 Earpiec e volume The scroll keys on your phon e will adjus t the ea rpiece volume during a phone ca ll. The t op scroll key incre ases while the bottom one d ecrease s the volume.
35 When m aking an emerg ency call, remem ber to give all the nec- essary info rmation as ac curately as possi ble. Rememb er that your cel lular phone m ay be the only m eans of comm unication at the scen e of an acci dent - do no t cut off the call until give n permission to do so.
36 Your ph one di splays the ico n to indi cate th at your phone is in ABC mode. It also displa ys when you are viewi ng names ra ther than numbers. When is displayed, you can enter these characters: Whil e you’r e editin g a name , the V key will move the curso r to the le ft, and W w ill mov e it to the ri ght.
37 Pre ss the # ke y again fo r a coupl e of seco nds if yo u wish to deactiva te the m ode. Special characters (fo r storing names) W h e n in A B C m o d e ( s ee page 16 ) , you can press t he ∗ key and the f ollowi ng sp ecial charac ters will a ppea r.
38 Games You have four exci ting games to choose from in your phone. Press Menu 6 to c hoose one of the following games: REMEMBER ! Your pho ne must be sw itched on to use this function. Do not switch on the p hone when wirel ess phone use is prohibite d or when it m ay cause interfe rence or d anger.
39 Dice Use thi s to play other ga mes that r equire a s et of dice if one isn’t availabl e. Use the Leve l option to set the num - ber of dice, up t o six. You c an roll, lock, and unlock each die as many times as you wi sh. When you star t a new game, the dice roll for a coupl e of seconds and then stop.

41 Langua ge Becaus e many wirel ess phone cus - tomers speak En glish as a se cond language, your p hone allows you to choose your phon e’s displayed language. Choosing a language fo r your phone Press Menu 4 2 5 ( Settings - Phone settin gs - Languag e ), scroll to the language you wish to use and press OK .
42 Lights This is one of the settings in your phone’s Car Profile ( see page 53 ). This feature de termines whether the lights are on only when you use your phone, or if they are on at a ll times. This sett ing works only when your phone is conne cted to a car kit.

45 Missed calls Your phone will keep track of the last 10 calls you have missed if you weren’t a round to answ er the call . Missed calls will a ppear in your p hone onl y if i t was tu rned on and in a servi ce ar ea when th e call was mi ssed. If the display says ‘Missed calls’ Press List .

51 Recalling numbers by name At the start screen, press Nam es . Then press the number on the keypad with the corresponding first letter of the name you wish to call. You can also recall number s by name by pressing Name s , t hen p ress Se lect at Se arch .
52 When yo ur phone is l ocked, ca lls may be pos sible to the emer gency number pro grammed in to your phone (e.g. 911 or other official emergency number) including calls with Emerg ency key 9 ( page 35 ).
53 Profi les Now you can adjust an d customize you r phone to whate ver envi- ronments you find yoursel f in (i.e. meetin gs, a mo vie, et c.). With Profiles, you can control your phone’s ringing volume, ringi ng tone, message alert, keypad tones, warning and g ame tones , etc.
54 Customize allows yo u to custo mize a Pr ofile by ch anging the curre nt settings. Rename all ows you t o rename t he Prof ile. When you select Customize , press OK and you’ll hav e access to several lists and su b-menus that will enable you to adjust the settin gs on the current Profile.
55 Restoring f actory setti ngs Press Menu 4 2 4 ( Set tings - Phon e settings - Restor e factor y setting s ), ent er secu rity code an d pres s OK . Note: The memory, time rs, language se lection and security code is not reset. However , any Profiles you have modified will reset when you restore your settings.

60 Scrolling v iew There ar e three diff erent options o n how you can view the pho ne book. Your ch oices are: Name li st shows all stored name s in a scrolling list. Three names will appear at any given time. To view other names in th e directory, scroll back an d forth through the list using W or V .
61 Note: When entering your security code, ***** will appea r on the display to keep ot hers from viewing your co de. If you ma ke a mist ake enteri ng the cod e, erase th e last digit entere d by pressing Clear , or press and hold Clear . Then en ter the c orrect code or press Bac k to exit the current f eature.

65 Sending options If you press Options when sending a text message, you’ll f ind the following choices: Send sends the message Setting s a ll ow s y o u t o m ar k yo u r me s sa ge s (s ee be lo w ) Save will save your message to the Save d folder.
66 Reading text messages With Message rec eived displayed, press Read and scrol l to new me ssage, th en press Read aga in Reading options Press Options w hile a text message is displayed to acces s the foll owing read ing opt ions: Read next allows you t o read the n ext me ssage .
67 Replying to a message Note: Thi s feature is on ly available if your phone h as been activated in a wireless system that supp orts the sending of text messages. With the message displayed, press Option s , scr oll to Reply and press OK . Then write your reply a nd send the message as you normally would.
68 Storing touch to ne strings Touch tone strings can be used for se nding and rece iving in formatio n with yo ur phone. For exa mple, you can st ore your offi ce voice mai lbox number , along with your password for easy access to your messages. Stor e touch t one strings th e same way you store phone numbers ( see page 50 ).
69 T ouch tone length This fea ture determine s the le ngth of each touch to ne when they ar e sent automati cally. Shor t sets the tone length to .1 second. Long sets t he tone lengt h to .5 second. You can set the touch tone le ngth by pressing Menu 4 2 3 2 ( Setting s - Phone se ttings - Touc h tones - To uch tone leng th ).

71 Greet ings, passwords, and pr ompts These may vary in different wireless systems. So if you need in formation ab out how to rec ord your gree ting or how to store your password, con tact your servic e provider. You’ll also need to contact them on how to list en to vo ice me ssages once y ou’re conne cted to your voice ma ilbox.
72 Warning and game tones This is one of the settings in your phone’s Profiles ( see page 53 ). War ning and game t ones in clude tones your pho ne makes for condi tions su ch as erro rs, conf ir- mations, power on , batter y low, r echarge b attery and games.
73 6. Accessories If you want to enhance your phone ’s functionalit y, an extensi ve range of acc essories i s avai lable for you. 76 Rapid Mobile Char ger (LCH-8) You can c harge your phone’s battery f rom your vehi cle battery by using th e Rapid M obile Charger (LCH- 8). You can al so use this l ight- weight ch arger with the Compact De sktop Chargin g Stand (DC H-9). Calls are possibl e during charg ing.

78 7. T roub leshooting What if char ging fails? If Not cha rgin g is displayed, charging is suspe nded. Make su re the ba ttery is conne cted to an appro ved chargi ng devic e and that the ba ttery i s at room temper- ature. Extrem e temp eratur es, hot or c old, can affect your b attery’s p erformanc e and pre vent charg ing.
79 8. Reference Informa tion Important Saf ety Information Traffic Sa fety Do not use a hand-held tele phone while driving a vehicle. If using a hand-hel d phone park the vehicl e before conversing. Always secure the p hone in it s holder; do not place the phone on the passenger seat or wher e it can br eak loose in a collision or sudde n stop.
