Y ou r phone provides many functions which are practical f or daily use, such as a digital camera, a video recorder , messa ging, e-mail, a clock, an alar m clock, a calculator , and a calendar .

[ 7 ] General information • UNDERS TAND YOUR PHO NE Insert the SIM card and load the battery Important : K eep all miniature SI M cards out of the reach of small children . Note: Before removing t he covers, always switch off the power and disconnect the phone from the c harger or any other device.
[ 8 ] 5 Replace the battery ( 5 ). Alig n the gol den contac ts of the battery with the corresponding connectors on the phone, an d push the opposite end of the battery until it snaps into place. Replace the cover . Charge the battery 1 Connect the lead to th e charger .
[ 9 ] General information Antenna Y ou r phone has a built-in a ntenna (gray area in picture). As with any other radio transmitting device, do not touch th e an tenna unnecessarily when the phone is switched o n. Contact with the antenna affects ca ll quality and may cause the ph one to operate at a higher power level than oth erwise needed.
[ 1 0 ] For example: 1 To open an Options list, press Opti ons . The small a r row at the bottom of the display ( 1 ) indicates if the list contains more items. The lighter the arrow , the fewer the items left in the l is t. 2 To scr oll down th e Options list, press .

[ 12 ] Other shortcuts In the main Menu, press and hold to view all the applications that are currently open. From this view , you can switch between applications by scrolling to one a nd pressing . Standby mode The indicators descr ibed are shown wh en the phone is read y for use, with no char acters keyed in.

[ 14 ] DATA CO NNECTION INDIC ATORS When an application is establishing a data connection, one of the indicator s below blinks in t he standby mode. When an indicator is shown continuous ly , the connection is ac tive. Note: Check with your s ervice provider for availability of high-speed data calls.
[ 15 ] General information • MENU Press (Menu key) to open the main Menu. In the Menu, you can access all the applications in your phone. Options in the M enu are: Open , List vi ew / Grid view , Mo ve , Move to folder , New folder , Help , and Exit .
[ 16 ] Rearrange the Menu Y ou can rea rrang e the Menu i n any order yo u like. Y ou can move applications that you use more often from a folder to the Menu, and place applicati ons you use less o f ten in f olders. Y ou can also cr eate new folders.
[ 17 ] General information • NAVIG ATION BAR In the navigation bar , you can see: • Small arrows or ta bs which tell you if th ere are more views, folders, or files you ca n move to.

[ 19 ] General information • V OLUME CONT ROL When you have an active ca ll or are listening to a sound, press to increase or to decrease the volume level.
[ 20 ] • HEADSET To adjust the volume level when a h eadset is connected to your phone, press or or use the headset ’ s keys. • SHARED MEMORY The following features in your phone use shared memo.
[ 2 1 ] Y our phone 3 Y our ph one • MAKE A CALL 1 In the standby mode, key in the phon e number, including th e area code. Press or to move the cursor .
[ 22 ] Call your voice mailbox The voice mailbox (system service) is an answering machine where callers who are unab le to reach yo u can leave you voice messages. • To call your voice mailbox, press th e 1 key a nd in th e standby mode. • If the phone asks for th e voice mailbox number , key it in and press OK .
[ 23 ] Y our phone 1 Make a call to the first participant. 2 To make a call to a new participant, select Op tions → New call . 3 Key in or search the memory for the phone number of the participant and press OK . The first call is automatically put on h old.
[ 24 ] Note: If you have activated the Call forw ard → If busy function to forward calls, for example, to your voice mailbox, rejecting an incoming call will also f orward the call. See “ Settin gs for call forwarding ” on p. 25. When a call comes in, press Si lenc e to quickly mute the ringing ton e.
[ 25 ] Y our phone Swap is used to switch be tween the active call and the call on hold. Tra nsf er is used to connect an incoming call or a call on hold with an active call and to disconnect yourself f rom both calls. Send touc h tone s is used to send touch tone strings, fo r example, passw ords or bank account numbers.
[ 26 ] For informa tion a bout th e forw ard indi cato rs, see “ Activity i ndicator s ” on p. 13. Note: Rejection of incoming c alls and call forw arding cannot be active at the sam e time. See “ Call restriction (system service) ” on p. 48. • LOG — CALL LOG AND GENERAL LOG Go to Menu → Log .
[ 27 ] Y our phone MISSED CALLS AND RECEIVED CALLS To view the phone numbers of the last 20 missed calls, go to Log → Recent calls → Missed calls . When you see a note in the standby mode about missed calls, press Show to access the list of missed calls.
[ 28 ] Call costs (system service) Go to Log → Call costs . Call costs allows you to check the cost of the last call or all calls. The call cos ts are displayed separately for each SIM card.
[ 29 ] Y our phone SET A CALL CO ST LIMIT 1 Select Opti ons → Settings → Call cost limit → On . 2 The phone requests you to e nter the limit in units. For this you m ay need the PIN2 code. Depending on the Show costs in setting, enter either the amount of charging u nits or currency .
[ 30 ] FILTER TH E LOG 1 Select Opti ons → Filter . A list of filters opens. 2 Scroll to a filter and press Select . Y ou cannot get to the Filter option unle s s there are already calls in the log.

[ 32 ] 4 Setti ngs • CHANGE GENERAL SETTIN GS Go to Menu → Tools → Settings . 1 Scroll to a setting group and pr ess to open it. 2 Scroll to a setting you want to change and press to • switch between options if there ar e only two ( On / Off ).
[ 33 ] Settings Writing language — Y ou can change the writing language of you r phone permanently . Changing the language affects: • The characters available when you press any key ( 1 – 9 ). • The predictive text dictionary used. • The special cha r acters that are available when you press the * and the 1 keys .
[ 34 ] Standby mode Backg round image — Y ou can select any i mage to be used as a backgro un d image in the s tandby mode. Select Yes to select an image from Images . Left selection key an d Right selection key — Y ou can cha nge the shortc uts that appear over the left and right selection keys in the standby mode.
[ 35 ] Settings Call waiting (system service) The system will notify you of a new incoming call while you have a call in progress. Select Activ ate to request the system to activate call waiting, Canc el to request the system to deactivate call waiting, or Check status to check if the function is active or not.
[ 36 ] V oice messa ge in dicat ors: , , or is shown if you have one or more voice messages. • CONNECTION SETTINGS Data connections and access points To define settings for access points, go to Settings → Conne ction settings → Access points . A data connection is required to connect to an access point.
[ 37 ] Settings GSM D ATA CA LLS A GSM data call enables data transmission rates to a maximum of 14.4 kb/s. For availability and subscription to data s ervices, contact your service provider .
[ 38 ] GPRS P ACKET DATA P acket data, or General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), uses pac ket data technology where inf or mation is sent in sh ort bursts of data over the mobile system. The benefit of sending data in packets is that the system is occupied only when sending or receivin g dat a.
[ 39 ] Settings If access points are defined, to cr eate a new access point, select Opti ons → New access point and select: • Use default settings to use the default settings.

[ 4 1 ] Settings Note: ISDN connections are a way to establish a data ca ll between your phone and your access poin t. ISDN connection s are digital from end to end and as such offer quicker set-up times and faster data rates than analog connections.
[ 42 ] Note: If you need to en ter the Phone IP address , Primary n ame server , or Second name server , contact your I nternet service provider to obtain these addresses.
[ 43 ] Settings GPRS Go to Settings → Connection s ettings → GPRS . The GPRS settings affect all access points using a packet data con nection. GPRS connection — If you select When available and you are in a system that supports packet data, the phone registers to th e GPRS system and sending text messages wi ll be done using GPRS.
[ 44 ] • SECURITY Phone and SIM Explanations for the different security codes that may be needed: • PIN cod e (4 to 8 digits) — The PIN (Personal Identification Number) code protects your SIM card against unauthorized use. The PIN code is usually suppli ed with the SIM card.
[ 45 ] Settings Autolock period — Y ou can set an autolock period, a time -out after which the phone is automatically locked an d can be used only if the correct lock code is en tered. Key in a number f or th e time-out in min utes or select None to turn off the auto lock period.
[ 46 ] Confirm SIM services (network se rvice) — Y ou can set the phone to display confirmation messages when you are using a SI M card service. Certificate management In the Certificate m anagement main view , you can s ee a list of authority certificates that have been stored in your phone.
[ 47 ] Settings Y ou will be notified on the phone ’ s display: • If the identity of the browser server or gateway is not auth en tic. • If you do not h a ve the correct s ecurity certi f icate in your phon e. To check certificate details, scroll to a certificate and sele ct Options → Certificate details .
[ 48 ] • CALL RESTRIC TION (SYSTEM SER VICE) Call restriction allows you to restrict the making and recei v ing of calls with your phone. For this function, get the restriction password from your service provider . 1 Scroll to one of th e restr iction options.
[ 49 ] Settings Cell info display Select On to set the phone to indicate when it is used in a cellular system based on Micro Cellular Network (MCN) technology and to activate cell info reception.
[ 50 ] 5C o n t a c t s To open Contacts, press in the standby mode or go to Me nu → Cont acts . In Co ntact s, y ou can s tore and ma nage co ntact information, such as n ames, phone numbers, and addresses. Contacts use shared memory . See “ Shared me mory ” on p.
[ 5 1 ] Contacts • EDIT C ONTACT CARD S Options in the Contacts directory ar e: Open , Call , Create message , New contact , Edit , Delete , Duplicate , Add to group , Belongs to groups , Mark/ Unmar k , Send business card , Contacts info , Help , and Exit .
[ 52 ] Add a picture to a contact card There are two different types of pictures you can add to a contact card. See “ Camera and images ” on p. 59 for more information on how to take and store pictures.
[ 53 ] Contacts Open a contact card and select Options → Defaults . A pop-up window opens, listing the different option s. Example: Scrol l to Phone n u mber and press Assign . A list of pho n e num bers in the selected contact card is shown. Scr oll to the one you want to have as the default and press .
[ 54 ] 2 Scroll to the number to which you want to add the voice tag a nd sel ect Options → A dd voice tag . Press Start, then speak after tone is displayed. 3 Press Start to record a voice tag. The phone soun ds a starting tone and Speak now is displayed.
[ 55 ] Contacts Note: W hen an applica tion using a data call or GPRS connection is sending or receiving data, you cannot m ake a call by using voice dialing.
[ 56 ] Add a ringing tone for a contact card or group Y ou can set a ringing tone for each contact card and group. When th at contact or group member calls you, th e phone pla ys the chosen ringing tone (if the caller ’ s telephone number is sent with the call and your phone recognizes it).
[ 57 ] Contacts Note: When you send or r eceive contact information, the term ‘ busine ss card ’ is u sed. A business card is a contact car d in a format suitable to be sent in a te xt message, usually in ‘ vCard ’ form at.
[ 58 ] Remove members from a group 1 Go to the Groups list, scroll to the group you want to modify , and press . 2 Scroll to the contact you w a nt to remove and select Options → Remove from group . 3 Press Ye s to remove the contact from the group.
[ 59 ] Camera and images 6 Camera and images With the came ra you can take pictur es of people or event s while on the m ove. The pictur es are automaticall y s aved in the Im ages application, where you can rename t hem and organize them in folders.
[ 60 ] Note: Do not move the phone before the Camera application start s to save th e photo. The p h otos are saved automatically in the Images application. The Camera goes into battery saving m ode within a minute if there have been no key pr esses. To cont inue takin g pictures, press .
[ 6 1 ] Camera and images Camera modes With the different Camera modes, you can affect the size and orientation of the picture to be taken. When you a re taking a picture, press or to change between th e different modes. Choose: • Standard when you want to take normal landscape pictures.
[ 62 ] • When you are viewing images, they are scaled to fit the display , which has 176x208 pixels. This mean s that Standard and Night mode pictures will appear more detailed when viewed on a higher resolution screen, for example, a computer or when zoomed in Image s .
[ 63 ] Camera and images • STORE PICT URES IN IMAGES Go to Menu → Images . Images allows you to view , organize, delete, and send photos and picture s stored in your phone.
[ 64 ] 2 To browse the images, press and . 3 Press to open an image. When the image is open, you can see the name of the image and the number of images in the folder on the top of the display . When you are viewing an image, pressing o r takes you to the ne xt or previous picture in the current folder .
[ 65 ] Camera and images Rot ate Select Opti ons → Rotate → Left to rotate an image 90 degrees counterclockwise or Right to rotate the image clockwise. The rotation status is not s tored permanently . KE YB OAR D S HO RT CU TS • Rotate: 2 key — counterclockwise, 9 ke y — clockwise.
[ 66 ] Send images Y ou can send photos or images by different messaging services. 1 Scroll to the image you wan t to send and sele ct Option s → Send . 2 Then s elect the method. The choices are Via multimedia , Via e-mail , Via infrared , or Via Blu etooth .
[ 67 ] Video recorder 7 Video recorder Go to Menu → Video recorder . Note: Obey all local laws gover ning the taking of videos. Do not use this feature illegally . Y our phone must be switched on to u se the Video recorder . Do not switch the phone on when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may c ause interference or danger .
[ 68 ] • W ATCH A VIDEO CLIP To watch a video clip from the Video r ecorder video clip lis t: 1 Open the Video r ecor der . 2 Scroll to a video clip and select Op tions → Play . Once a video clip is playing, you have similar options available to you as when playing a video clip in RealOne Player ™ .
[ 69 ] RealOne Player ™ 8 RealOne Pla yer ™ Go to Menu → RealOne Player . With the RealOne Player you can play m edia files stored in the ph one ’ s memor y or on a memory card, play music and video files, or stream live content from the internet.
[ 7 0 ] To play a media file directly from the in ternet: 1 Select Opti ons → Open → URL address . 2 Enter the URL of th e site from which you want to play or stream content. Before your media file or str eam begins playing, your phone will con nect to the site a nd load the file.
[ 7 1 ] RealOne Player ™ V olume control • To increas e the volume press , or to decr eas e the volume press . • To mute the so und press and hold u ntil the indica tor is displa yed. • To turn on the sound press and hold until you see the indicator .
[ 72 ] • Connection time-out — Ope n the slider v iew to change the waitin g time for the initial server connection on a s treaming session. • Server time-out — Open the slider view to change the tim e allowed for no response from th e server .
[ 73 ] Messaging 9 Messaging Go to Menu → Messaging . Options in the Messaging main view: Create m essage , Connect (sho wn if you have defined settings for the mailbox), or Disconnect (s ho w n i f th er e is an active connection to mailbox), SIM messages , Cell broadcast , Service command , Settings , Help , and Exit .
[ 74 ] My folders — For organizing your messages into folders. Organize your messages by adding new folders u nder My folders. When you have opened one of th e default folders, for example, Sent, you can easily move between the f olders by pressing to open the next folder (Outbox), or by pressing to open the previous folder (Drafts).
[ 75 ] Messaging • MESSAGING — GENERAL INFORMATION The messa ge status is always either dr aft, sent, or received. M es sages can be saved to the Drafts folder befo re they are sent. Messages are tempor arily placed to Outbox to wait for sending. After a message has been sent, you can find a copy of the mes sage in t he Sent fold er .
[ 76 ] Note: If you write man y phone numbers or e-mail a ddresses in the To: field, you mu st remember t o add a semicolo n ( ; ) between each item to separ a te them fr om each other . Whe n you retr ieve recipients from the Contacts directory , the semicolon is added automatically .
[ 77 ] Messaging • The most common punctuation marks are available under the 1 key . Press the 1 key repeatedly to reach the desired punctuation m a rk. • Pr ess t he * key to open a list of special characters. Use the Scroll key to move through the lis t, and press OK to select a character .
[ 78 ] When you have finished the word, ch eck that it is cor rect. • If the word is correct, you can confirm it by pressing or by pres sing the 0 key to insert a space.
[ 79 ] Messaging The predictive text input will try to guess which com monly used punctuation mark ( .,?! ‘ ) is needed. The orde r and availability of the punctuation marks depend on the language of the diction ary . Press the * key repeatedly to view th e matching words the dictionary has found one by one.
[ 80 ] • COPY T EXT If you want to copy te xt to the clipboard, the following are the easiest methods: 1 To select letters and words, press and hold . At the same time, press or . As the selection moves, text is highlighted. To select lines of text, press and hold .
[ 8 1 ] Messaging • T EXT MESSAGES Opti ons in the text messag e edi tor are: Send , Add recipient , Ins ert , Delete , Message details , Sending options , Help , an d Exit . 1 Select New mess age . A list of message options opens. 2 Select Crea te: → Text message .
[ 82 ] Create and send picture messages Y ou r phone allows you to send a nd receive picture messages. Picture messages are text messages that contain small black-and-white graphics. There are sever al default pictures available in the Picture msgs . folder in Images .
[ 83 ] Messaging Settings needed for multimedia messaging Options in the multimedia message editor are: Send , Add recipient , Inse rt , Preview message , Objects , Re mo ve , Delete , Message details , Sending options , Help , and Exit . Y ou may receive the settings as a smart message fr om your service provider .
[ 84 ] Set up the messaging store The messaging store defines w h ether the phone ’ s memo ry or th e memory card are used as default. T o define the messaging store: Messaging → Options → Settings → Messaging store and select either th e phone ’ s memory or the memory card, if one is used.
[ 85 ] Messaging Note: If you chose Im age , first y ou need to select whether the image is stored in the phone ’ s me mory or the memo ry card, if one is u sed. • If you select Insert → New image , Camera opens and you can take a new picture. Press Re move to remove the picture and take another instead.
[ 86 ] • E-MAIL MESSAGES Before you can sen d, receive, retrieve, reply to, and forward e-mail messages , you must: • Configure an Internet Acc ess P oint (IAP) correctly . See “ Connection settings ” on p. 36. • Define your e-m a il settings correctly .
[ 87 ] Messaging 6 To send the e-mail, select Opti ons → Send or press . E-mail messages are au tomatically placed in O utbox before sending. In case something goes wrong while the phone is sending the e - mail, the e-mail is left in Outbox with the status F ailed .
[ 88 ] In Inbox, u nread messages appear in bold. T he message icons tell you what kind of a message it is. Here are some of th e icons that you may see: View messages To open a message, scroll to the message and press . Use the Scroll key to move up and down in the message.
[ 89 ] Messaging • Message details — shows detailed information abou t a message. • Mo ve to folder / Copy t o folder — allows you t o move or copy message(s) to My folders, Inbox, or other folders you have created. See “ Move items to a folder ” on p.
[ 90 ] Example: Y ou can open a vCard f ile and save the contact information in the file to Contacts . SOUNDS IN A MULTI MEDIA MESSAGE Sound objects in a multimedia message are indicated by the indicator in the navigation bar . Sounds are by default played through the loudspeaker .
[ 9 1 ] Messaging • E-mail notification — Tells you h ow many n ew e-mails you have in your remote mailbox. An extended notification may list m ore detailed information such as subject, sender , attachments, and so on. If the message contains both browser access point settings and bookma rks, to save the data select Options → Save all .
[ 92 ] 2 To download or view the service, press Downlo ad message . The note Downloading message is displayed. The phone s tarts to make a data connection, if needed. 3 Press Back to retu rn to Inbox. VIEWING SERVICE ME SSAGES IN THE BROWSER When you are br owsing, select Options → Read service msgs.
[ 93 ] Messaging When you create a ne w mailbox, th e name you give to the mailbox automatically replaces Mailbox in the Messaging main view . Y ou can have severa l mailboxes (max.
[ 94 ] Now you can continue re a ding the retrieved e-mail headings and/or the retrieved e-mail messages offline. You can write new e-mail messages, reply to the retrieved e-mail messages, and forward e-mail messages. Y ou can order the e-mail messages to be sent th e next time you conn ect to the mailbox.
