51 Smart Portrait Mode (Shooting Smiling Faces) Shooting Features C Releasing the Shutter Manually The shutter can also be released by pres sing the sh utter-releas e button. If no faces are detected, the camera focuses on the sub ject at the center of the frame.
52 Smart Portrait Mode (Shooting Smiling Faces) Shooting Features Using Skin Softening In the following shooting modes, the ca mera detects up to three human faces when the shutter is released, and proces ses the image to make facial skin tones softer before saving the image.

64 Features That Can Be Set Using the Multi Selector Shooting Features Using Macro Mode When using macro mode, the camera can focus on obj ects as close as 4 cm (1.6 in.) from the front of the lens. This feature is useful when takin g close-up pictures of flowers and other small subjects.

74 Shooting Features Focusing on the Subject The focus area or focus range for adju sting focus varies depending on t he shooting mode. • The subject is too close to the camera . Try shootin g with Macro mode ( A 64) or Clo se-up scene mode ( A 45).
75 Focusing on the Subject Shooting Features Using Face Detection In the following shooting mo des, the camera uses face detection to automatically focus on human faces. If the camera detects more than on e face, a double border is displayed around the face that the camera will focus on, and single borders are displayed around the other faces.
76 Focusing on the Subject Shooting Features Focus Lock Use focus lock to focus on off-center subjec ts when center is selected for AF area mode. To focus on off-center subjects when AF area mode ( A 37) is set to Center in A (auto) mode or continuous sho oting mo de, use focus lock as described below.

83 Playback Features Using V iewNX 2 ViewNX 2 is an all-in-one software pack age which enables you to transfer, view, edit and share images. Install ViewNX 2 using the ViewNX 2 Installer CD.

88 Recording and Playing Back Movies Recording and Playing Back Movies Recor ding Movies You can record movies by simply pressing the b ( e movie-record) button. Color tones, white balance, and other settings are the same as they are when taking still images.
