9 Basic Operations Introduction The Rotary Multi Selector The rotary multi selector is made up of the rotating ring and the d button. When selecting menus or pictures, you can either press the rotating ring up, down, left, or right, or rotate it.

12 First Steps First Steps Charging the Battery The camera uses a Recharge able Li-ion Battery EN-EL8 (su pplied). Charge the battery with the Battery Charger MH- 62 (supplied) before first use or when the battery is running low.

Hold the c amera steadi ly in both h ands, keep ing your fingers an d other object s away from the lens, flash, and self-timer lamp. 2 Frame the picture. Position the main subject near the cent er of the mon- itor.
23 Step 2 Frame a Picture Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode j Digital Zoom Unlike optical zoom, data from the camera’s imag e se nsor are processed digitally with digit al zoom. Details visible at maximum optical zo om are simply enlarged, produci ng a slightly “grainy” image.
24 Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Step 3 Focus and Shoot 1 Press the shutter-re lease button half way. The camera fo cuses on the su bject posit ioned within the active focu s area.

Do not turn the camera off, open th e battery-c hamber/memory card slot cover, or remove or disconnect the power source while these icons are displayed.

28 Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Using the Flash The flash has a range of 0.3–3.5 m (1–11. 4 ft.) when the camera is zoomed out all the way. With maxi mum optical zoom applied, the range i s 0.3–3 m (1–9.8 ft.) (when [I SO sensitivity] is set to [ Auto]).
