9 Basic Operations Introduction The Multi Selector This section describes standard uses of th e multi selector to select modes, select menu options and to a pply selection. Press the multi selector up, down, left, or right to select options, or press the k (apply selection) button.
10 Basic Operation s Introduction The d Button Press the d button to display the menu for th e selected mode. • Use the multi selector to navigate the menus ( A 9). • Choose a tab on the left to switch to the menu of the selected tab. • Press the d button again to exit the menu.
11 Basic Operations Introduction The Shutter-release Button The camera features a two-stage shutter-release button. To set focus and exposure, press the shutter-release butto n halfway, stopping when you fee l resistance. Focus and exposure lock while the shutter-re lease button is held in this position.
12 First Steps First Steps Inserting the Batter y Insert a Rechargeable Li -ion Battery EN-EL19 (supplied) into the camera. • Charge the battery before the first use or when the battery is running low ( A 14). 1 Open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover.
13 Inserting the Battery First Steps Removing the Battery Turn the camera off ( A 17) and be sure that the power-on lamp and the monito r have turned off before opening the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover.
14 First Steps Charging the Batt ery Charge the supplied Rechargeable Li-ion Batte ry EN-EL19 inserted into the camera, by connecting the supplied Charging AC Adapter EH-69P to the camera via the supplied USB Cable UC-E6, and then plugging the Charging AC Adapter into an electrical outlet.
15 Charging the Battery First Steps 4 Plug the Charging AC Adapter into an electrical outlet. The charge lamp slowly blinks green to indicate that the battery is charging. About two hours and ten minut es are required to charge a fully exhaus ted batt ery.

17 Charging the Battery First Steps Turning On and Off the Camera To turn on the camera, press the power switch. The power-on lamp (green) will light for a moment and the monitor will turn on. To turn off the camera, press the power switch again. When the camera is turned off, both the power-on lamp and monitor will turn off.
18 First Steps Setting Display Language , Date and T ime A language-selection dialog is displayed the first time the camera is turned on. 1 Press the power switch to turn on the camera. The power-on lamp (green) wi ll light for a moment and the monitor will tu rn on.

Note that formatting permanently deletes all picture s and other data on the memory card . Be sure to make copies of an y pictures you wish to keep before formatting the memory card.

23 Step 1 Turn the Camera On and Select A (Auto) Mode Basic Photography and Playback: A (Auto) Mode Indicators Displayed in A (Auto) Mode • The indicators and photo info displayed during shooting and playback will turn off after a few seconds ( A 131).
24 Basic Photography and Playback: A (Auto) Mode Step 2 Fr ame a Picture 1 Ready the camera. Hold the camera steadily in both hands, keeping your fingers and other objects away from the lens, flash, AF assist-illuminator, mi crophone, and speaker.
25 Step 2 Frame a Picture Basic Photography and Playback: A (Auto) Mode Using the Zoom Use the zoom control to activate opti cal zoom. Rotate the zoom control to g to zoom in so that the subject fills a larger area of the frame, or f to zoom out, thus increasing the area visible in the frame.

32 Basic Photography and Playback: A (Auto) Mode T ak ing Pictures with the Self- timer The camera is equipped with a ten-s econd and two-second timer for self-portraits. This feature is useful for reducing the effects of camera shake that occurs when pressing the shutter-release but ton.
33 Basic Photography and Playback: A (Auto) Mode Macro Mode Macro mode is used for taking pictures of objects as clo se as 8 cm (3.2 in.). Note that the flash may be unable to light the entire subject at distances of less than 50 cm (1 ft . 8 in.). 1 Press the multi selector p (macro mode).

88 Playback Option: Playback Menu More on Playback a Print Order (Creatin g a DPOF Print Order) When printing pictures stored on the memory card using any of the following methods, the Print or der option in the playback menu is used to create digital “print orders” for printin g on DPOF-compatible devices.
