6 Introduction Operating the T o uch Panel The monitor on the COOLPIX S70 is a touc h panel display operated by touch. Use the me thod de scribed b elow. Tapping Tap the touch panel. Use this operation to select a control or picture. The shutter can also be released by tapping the monitor ( A 51).

16 First Steps First Steps Inserting the Batter y Insert a Rechargeable Li -ion Battery EN-EL12 (supplied) into the camera. • Charge the battery before the first use or when the battery is running low ( A 16). 1 Open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover.
17 Inserting the Battery First Steps Removing the Battery Close the slide cover to turn the camera off ( A 21) and be sure that the power-on lamp and the monitor have turned off before opening the battery-chamber/ memory card slot cover.

21 Charging the Battery First Steps Turning On and Off the Camera To turn on the camera, open the slide cover. After the power-on lamp (green) light s for a moment, the monitor will turn on. To turn off the cam era, clos e the slid e cover. When the camera turns off, both the power-on lamp and moni tor will turn off.
22 First Steps Setting Display Language , Date and T ime A language-selection dialog is displayed the first time the camera is turned on. 1 Open the slide cover to turn on the camera. The power-on lamp (green) wi ll light for a moment and the monitor will tu rn on.
23 Setting Display Language, Date and Time First Steps 5 Tap D or E to choose the order in which the day, month and year are displayed. 6 Edit the date and time. Tap the desired item and D or E to edit the highlighted item. 7 Tap Z . The settings are applied and monitor display exits to shoot ing mode.
24 First Steps Inserting Memor y Cards Recorded data are stored in the camera’s internal memory ( approximately 20 MB) or on removable Secure Digital (SD) memory cards ( available separately ; A 158).

28 Basic Photography and Playback: Easy Auto Mode Step 2 Fr ame a Picture 1 Ready the camera. Hold the camera steadily in both hands, keeping your fingers and other objects away from the lens, flash, AF- assist illumi nator, and microphone.
29 Step 2 Frame a Picture Basic Photography and Playback: Easy Auto Mode Using the Zoom Tap j or k to activate optical zoom. Tap j to zoom in so that the subject fills a larger area of the frame, or k to zoom out, increasing the area visible in the frame.
