4 LED Descriptions The LEDs indicate the status of your Powerline devices. • Wh en you plug in the Powerline device, the Power LED lights and tur ns green. • T he Ethernet LED lights a nd turns green when you connect a powered-on Ether net device to at lea st one Ethernet port.
5 Button Descriptions The buttons on your Powerlin e devices let you do the following: • Factory Reset button: Use the Factory Reset button to return your Powerline device to its defaul t factory settings. Press the Factory Reset button fo r 2 seco nds, and th en release it.
6 Install the Adapters and Surf the W eb with WiFi 1. Secure your Powe rline network. a. Make sure that the Power LED is solid green on each Powerline device. b. On the XA V1301 a dapter , press it s Security button for 2 seconds, and then release the button.
7 The Powerline devic es can communic ate over the Powerline network in a secure way . 2. Plug the XA V1 301 into a wall outlet n ear your router or gateway .
8 If you want to share Internet access acro ss your home, make sure to connect the XA V1301 to your Internet gateway with an Ethernet cable..
9 4. Plug the WiFi Range Extend er (XA VN2 001) into a wall outlet where you need WiFi coverage. Note: You can connect an Eth ernet-based device (like a game console , set-top box, or Blu-ray player) to the Intern et and the home netwo rk with the additional Et hernet port on the XAVN2001.
10 5. Set up WiFi access on your XA VN2001 extender . Y ou can set up WiFi access on your XA VN2001 extender in one of three ways: • Option 1 : Use the WPS button on your wireless ro uter or gateway to clone your existing wireless network. a. Press and hold the Security button on the XA V N2001 (about 10 seconds) and release it.
11 • Option 2 : Use NETGEAR genie to manually configur e the wireless settings of yo ur XA VN2001 extender . a. Inst all NETGEAR genie. (See Install NETGEAR genie on pag e 19 .) b. T em porarily connect your computer d irectly to the XA VN2001 through the Ethernet port.
12 d. Click the Powerline icon on the Network Map screen. The Powerline Utility screen displays: Powerline icon XA VN2001 icon e. On the Powerline Utility screen, right-click the XA VN2001 icon.
13 f. From the pop-up menu that di splays, select Wireless configurat ion . g. Enter the following wireless settings: • Wireless N etwork Name (SSID) • Wireless S ecurity T ype • Pa ssphrase.
14 If you want to clone your exis ting wireless netwo rk, enter the same wireless settings that your router or gateway uses. When you are r oaming in your house, your wir eless client (laptop, tablet, or smar tphone) switches from one network (ro uter or ga teway) to the other (XA V N2001), depending on the signal quality .
15 • Option 3 : Use the web browser setup guide to manually configure the wireless settings of your XA VN2001 extender . On your computer or wireless device (ta blet, smartphone): a. Open the softwar e that manages your wireless network conne ctions and connect to the XA VN2001 network.
16 b. On the same com puter or wirele ss device, op en a web browser windo w . The browser takes you directly to the on screen setu p guide. If it does not, enter on e of the following into the browser address bar: www .mywifiext.net www . netgearextend er .
17 If you want to clone your exis ting wireless netwo rk, enter the same wireless settings that your router or gateway uses. If you want to create a new wireless network, en ter new wireless settings. Creating a new wirele ss network le ts you have a second network in another zone of your house.

Connect your wireless clie nt (laptop, ta blet, or smartphone) to the XA VN2001 for Internet access. • Option 1 : Use the WPS button on your wireless clie nt to automatically connect to the XA VN2001 access point. a. Press and hold the Security button on the XA VN2001 for 2 seconds and release it.
