1. Ex tend the ant ennas. P osition the antennas f or the best WiFi performanc e. NET GEAR rec ommends that you position all of the antennas v ertically as shown. 2. Pr epare y our modem. Unplug your modem ’ s power . If it has a battery back up, r emove the batt ery.
1 LEDs The LEDs on the top of the r outer light to indic ate r outer activit y . Y ou can use the LED On/O switch on the r ear panel of the r out er to turn the LEDs on the t op of the r outer on or o . N ote : The P ower LED stays lit even if the LED On/O swit ch is in the O position.
2 Install Y our Rout er Mak e sur e that your Internet service is active bef or e you install your r outer . ¾ T o install y our rout er : 1. Extend the ant ennas. P osition the antennas f or the best WiFi performanc e. NET GEAR rec ommends that you position all of the antennas vertically as shown.
3 3. Connect your modem. a. Plug in, then turn on your modem. b. If you r emoved the batteries, r eplace them. c . With the yellow Ethernet c able that came with the r outer , connect your modem to the yellow Int ernet port on your r outer . 4. Check the r outer ’ s LED On /O switch.
4 5. Add power t o the r outer . a. Connect the power adapt er to the r outer and plug the power adapt er into an outlet. b. W ait f or the Pow er LED on the front panel t o light amber and turn white. If no LEDs ar e lit , pr ess the P ower On/O button on the r ear panel of the rout er .
5 7. Launch a web br owser . The first time that you c onnect to the r outer , the genie scr een displays. Follow the genie st eps to c onnect to the Interne t . If the genie scr een does not display, try the f ollowing: • Close and r eopen the browser .
6 WiFi Network Name and P asswor d The pr eset WiFi network name (S SID) and passwor d (network k ey) ar e unique to your r outer , like a serial number . Because the r outer automatic ally uses WiFi securit y, you don ’t need to se t it up. The WiFi settings ar e on the pr oduc t label.
7 Join the WiFi Network Y ou can either use Wi‑Fi Pr ot ec ted Setup (WPS) or select your WiFi network and type its passwor d. For help with the WPS button on your comput er or WiFi device, check the instructions or online help that came with that c omputer or device.
8 View or Change the Rout er Settings Aer you use genie t o set up the r outer , you can log in t o the rout er to view or change its se ttings. Log In t o the Rout er ¾ T o log in to the r outer : 1. Connect a comput er or WiFi device t o the r outer .
9 3. Enter admin f or the user name and password f or the passwor d. The BASIC Home scr een display s. 4. Select ADV ANCED > Administr ation > Set Passw ord . 5. T ype your old passw or d and t ype the new passwor d twice. 6. T o be able to r ecover the passwor d, selec t the Enable P assword R ecovery check bo x .

NET GEAR rec ommends you use the blue USB 3.0 port on the r outer t o get the best USB devic e acc ess speed. If your USB device has a pow er supply, you must use it when you connect the USB device t o the r outer .
13 R eadySHARE V ault Backup App Y our rout er comes with fr ee backup sowar e f or all the Windows comput ers in your home. Connect a USB hard disk drive (HDD) to the USB port on your r outer f or centr aliz ed, continuous, and automatic back up.
14 Shar e a USB Print er on the WiFi Network The Re adySHARE Print er utilit y lets you shar e a USB printer that is connected t o a USB por t on your r outer . Y ou can shar e this USB printer among the Windows and M ac comput ers on your network and print wir elessly.
15 Mor e Pr emium Featur es Y our rout er lets you do the f ollowing and more: • Play music fr om a USB device with iT unes Ser ver . • Set up a secur e VPN ser vice c onnec tion to your home network. • Cr eate a personal FTP ser ver with a custom URL.
