Introduction Thank you for purchasing a NET GEAR ME101 802.11b Wireless E thernet Bridge. With this bridge you can connect a gaming console, personal computer , printer , or other E thernet- enabled device to communicate with your wireless router or access point.
System Requirements Before installing the ME101 802.11b Wireless Ethernet B ridge, please make sure that these minimum requirements hav e been met: • Y ou must have a wireless network set up with either a wireless r outer or access point. If the default settings on the bridge do not work, you will need to configur e the bridge.
ME101 Default Wireless Conf iguration Settings N ote: If you are setting up a new wireless network, please set up the network and make sure it works before adding the ME101 Wi reless E thernet Bridge into the network. Y ou will need to identify the wireless configuration and security parameters already defined in your wireless network.
Installing the ME101 This section provides instructions for connecting the ME101 802.11b Wireless Ethernet Bridge to any Ethernet-enabled device using the default settings.
4. T urn off the gaming console or other E thernet-enabled device. 5 Connect the provided E thernet cable between the ME101 Wir eless Bridge and the gaming console or other Ethernet-enabled device. N ote: The ME101 Wireless Bridge should be connected to one device only .
Conf iguring Y our ME101 If the default settings don ’ t work in your wireless networ k, you need to configure the bridge. Identifying the Wireless Netw ork Name (SSID), IP Address, and WEP Security.
Installing the Conf iguration Utility T o configure the bridge you use the configuration utility on the included GearBox CD. N ote: T o run the configuration utility , you must hav e the bridge directly connected using the provided E thernet crossover cable to a computer running W indows 98 or 98SE, Me, 2000, or XP .
Conf iguring the Bridge f or Y our Wireless Network Once you are logged into the Configuration U tility , you can view the status of your home wireless network and curr ent configuration of the bridge.
Chang ing the Passw ord f or the Bridge Y ou can use the configuration utility to change the password for the bridge. T o do so, you must have the bridge directly connected to a computer . S ee Installing the ME101 on page 4 and Installing the Configur ation Utility on page 7.
Enab ling WEP Security on the Bridge T o prevent others from accessing your wireless network, you may want to enable WEP ( Wired Equivalent P rivacy) security in your wireless router or access point. If y ou do so, you ’ ll need to enable WEP security in the bridge, too .
Using the Bro wser-based Conf iguration Software If you don ’ t have access to a Windows-based computer , you may use the internal browser-based configuration software to configure the bridge. 1. Make sure the r outer or access point is power ed up.
Configuring the bridge settings: 1. T ype http:// and the IP address of the bridge (the default is 192.168.0.200) as the W eb address in the browser and pr ess Return . Yo u ’ ll see the I nformation page. 2. T o change the SSID for the bridge to connect to, click Wir eless Settings .
5. Click OK . 6. T ype the old password in the O ld P assword box. 7. T ype a new password in the N ew P assword box. 8. Re-type the new password in the Confirm P asswor d box.
ME101 802.11b Wireless Ethernet Bridge Lights and Settings ME101 802.11b Wireless Ethernet Bridge Lights The ME101 802.11b Wir eless Ethernet Bridge has the following thr ee lights, which give you feedback on the status of your wireless connection: PWR Gr een OFF: N o power to the unit.
ME101 802.11b Wireless Ethernet Bridge Status Settings In the Configuration U tility and in the browser-based configuration software, you can get certain status information about your bridge and your wireless network.
The About tab gives specific information about the bridge like the model name, MA C address, and current firmware v ersion. The Information page of the bro wser-based configuration software shows the same settings as the Status and A bout tabs.
