Introduction Thank you for purchasing a NET GEAR HR314 54 Mbps 802.11a W ireless Router . The HR314 gives you the ultimate in office mobility with the freedom to r oam throughout the workplace while connected to the Internet at speeds up to 54 Mbps.

Gather Configuration Information for Y our W orking Connection to the Internet Before installing the HR314 router , you should have an external DSL or cable modem with an Ethernet port set up and working with one computer . Y ou ’ll be installing the router between the modem and the computer .
Connection information Later in the setup process you ’ll need to configure the router to work with your networ k. A Setup Wizard is available to help y ou through this procedure. Y ou can configur e the router yourself using information that you can get from your computer or y our ISP about your current Internet connection.
Host and Domain Names Some ISP s use a specific host or domain name—like jsmith or earthlink.net. If you hav en ’ t been given specific information about host or domain names then use the following examples as a guide: • If your main e-mail account with y our ISP is aaa@yyy .
Install the R outer After unpacking the box and locating the configu- ration information, you ’ r e ready to install the router . 1. Determine a suitable location for your router . The operating distance or range of your wireless connection can vary significantly based on the physical placement of the wire- less router .
Check the setup • The T est light turns on for a few seconds and then goes off. Note: If the T est light remains on for more than one minute, go to T roubleshooting on page 13. • The P ower and Internet Link lights should be lit. • The W ireless Link light should be lit.
Configure the Computer to W ork with the R outer and R estart the Network N ext, make sure that the computer can interact with the router . T o do this, configure the TCP/IP settings on the computer and then r estart the network. Ho w you do this depends on your computer .
Macintosh Operating System Mac OS ® 8.6 or 9.x 1. Choose Control P anels >T CP/IP from the Apple menu. 2. If not already selected, select E thernet in the Connect via list. 3. Select U sing DHCP Server in the Configure list. 4. Click the close box.

T roubleshooting No lights are lit on the router The router has no power . • Make sur e the power cor d is properly connected to the router . • Make sur e the power adapter is properly connected to a functioning po wer outlet. If it ’ s in a power strip , make sure the pow er strip is turned on.
