iT ap GigaBit Dual Port Aggregator 1 Chapter 1 Intr oduction Ov er view Thank you for purchasing the latest innovation in T ap technology – the iT ap GigaBit Dual Port Aggregator . Net Optics' GigaBit Dual Port Aggregator T aps provide ultra-ef fi cient access to critical GigaBit links using only one NIC on the monitoring device.
iT ap GigaBit Dual Port Aggregator 2 cally when the traf fi c volume falls below the receiving capacity of the NIC. These buffers allow the iT ap Port Aggregator to absorb traf fi c bursts without dropping packets. T raf fi c Monitoring The iT ap Port Aggregator monitors the utilization levels of both sides of the full- duplex link.
iT ap GigaBit Dual Port Aggregator 3 System Manager iT ap Port Aggregators can be used as a system managed via Simple Network Man- agement Protocol (SNMP) from a single interface. Net Optics' System Manager is an SNMP management tool that offers central management of all Net Optics iT ap devices in the network.
iT ap GigaBit Dual Port Aggregator 4 Memor y All traf fi c that passes through the iT ap is sent to the monitoring device NIC on a fi rst-in- fi rst-out basis, including traf fi c that is temporarily stored in memory .
iT ap GigaBit Dual Port Aggregator 5 The NIC receives 800 Mbps (80% utilization), so no memory is required for the monitoring device's NIC to process all full-duplex traf fi c.
iT ap GigaBit Dual Port Aggregator 6 Unpacking and Inspection Carefully unpack the iT ap GigaBit Dual Port Aggregator and check for damaged or missing parts.
