4 CHILD REN • Tragic accidents ca n occur i f the operator is not alert to the pr esence of smal l children. Children are often attrac ted to the tilling activity. Never assume that child ren will remain wh ere you las t saw them. • Keep child ren out of the work area and under the watchful eye of a r esponsi ble adult oth er than the operator.
5 SECTION 2: ASSEMBLING YOUR TILLER This ins tructio n manual cov ers seve ral differ ent model tillers. Follow only th ose instr uctions which p ertain to your un it. T o R e m o v e U n i t F r o m C a r t o n • Remove s taples, break glue on top flap s, or cut tape at cart on end and peel al ong top flap to op en carton.

7 • Slide th e rubber washe r on the unthread ed end of the handl e adjus tment rod. Inse rt the end o f the handle adj ustment ro d into the po sitioner br acket beneath the ha ndle, on top of the ti ne shield . See Figure 7. Secure with hairpin cl ip.
8 SECTION 3: KNOW YOUR TILLER Fig ure 1 0 Gear Selection Handle The gear sel ection han dle is located on the front of the handle a ssembl y (right hand h andle on Mode l 420 Series). It i s used to select NEUTRAL, R EVERSE, or one of the FORWA RD modes.
9 SECTION 4: OPERATING YOUR TILLER NOTE: Engin e is shipped with out oil. Before Starting • Service engine with oil as ins truct ed in the separat e engine manu al packed with your unit.
10 Setting T he Depth Tilling de pth is contr olled by the depth stake which can be adjuste d to five differ ent settin gs. See Figur e 12. Adjust the side shie lds as sho wn in Figure 13 , as you adjust the de pth stake. Be ce rtain spa rk plug wire i s disconn ected and groun ded agains t the engine.
11 To adjust the ten sion on the be lt, refer to final clutch adjustme nt in Assem bly Instruc tions. Carburet or Adjustme nt WARNING: If any adjust ments are made to the engine while the e ngine is running, (e.g. carb uretor), dise ngage all clutches and tines.
12 Belt Replacement CAUTION: Do not use an off-the-shelf belt. Your till er has been eng ineered wi th a belt made of special material (K evlar Tens ile) for lo nger life and better per formance. It sh ould not be re placed with an off-the-sh elf b elt.
