2 TABLE OF CONTENTS FINDING MODEL NUMBER This Operator’s Ma nual is an important part of your new snow thrower. It will help you assemble, prepare and maintain the unit for best performance.
3 SECTION 1: IMPORTANT SAFE OPERATION PRACTICES DANGER: This machine was built to be oper ated according to th e rules f or safe operation in this manual. As with any type of power equipment, car elessness or error on the part of the operator can result in serious injury .
4 5. Never run an engine in doors or in a poo rly ventilated area. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, an odorless and deadly gas. 6. Do not operate machine while under the influen ce of alcohol or drugs. 7. Muffler and engine become hot and can ca use a burn.
5 SECTION 2: ASSEMBLING YOUR SNOW THROWER IMPORT ANT : This unit is shipped with the engine f ull of oil. After assembly, se e page 8 for fuel and oil details. Removing From Carton • Cut the corner s of the carton and lay the sides flat on the ground.
6 Final Adjustments IMPORT ANT : Check the a djustments as instructe d and make any final adju stments necessary before operating the unit. Check all nut s and bolts for tightness. Failure to follow these in structions may cause damage to u nit. Tire Pressure (Pneumatic Tires) The tires are over-in flated for shipping purposes.
7 SECTION 3: KNOW YOUR SNOW THROWER • Compare Figure 6 with your eq uipment and follow description of contro ls, given below, to get familiar with their operat ion. Figure 6 Throttle Control The throttle con trol is located on the engine. It r egulates the speed of the engin e and also stops the engine.
8 SECTION 4: OPERATING YOUR SNOW THROWER Before Starting Engine Engine Oil The engine is shipped with o il in it. Check the oil level before first use. For subsequ ent fill-ups, use the grade of engine oil specified in en gine manual. To add oil: 1. Remove the dipstick from t he oil fill.
9 • If your house wiring system is ground ed and a three-hole re ceptacle is not avail able at the point the snow thrower starter will normally be used, one should be installed by a licensed electrician.
10 • Allow the auge r to remain engaged for approximatel y ten (10) seconds befo re releasing the auger cont rol. Repeat this several t imes. • With the engine runnin g in the FAST position and the auger control in the disen gaged “up” position, walk to the fr ont of the machine.
11 • Remove the self-tapping screw and press the tabs that secure the belt co ver to the snow th rower housing. Pull the belt cove r from around the engine and chute and keep it away. You can now access the auger cable. • Tighten two he x nuts on the auger cable toward s the spring to incr ease the tension on the auger b elt.
12 • With engine on level ground, oil must be to FULL mark on dipstick. See Figur e 10. • Stop engine and wait several minu tes before checking oil level. Remove oil fill cap and dipstick. • Wipe dipstic k clean, in sert it into oil fill hole and tighten secure ly.
13 Replacing Belts NOTE: There ar e two belts on this snow thrower: a uger belt and drive belt. It is recomm ended that both belts be replaced at the same time.
14 Off-Season Storage • If unit is to be stored over 30 days, prepare en gine for storage as instr ucted in the engine manual. • Remove all debris from th e exterior of equipment. • Follow lubrication reco mmendations on page 11. • Always store the sno w thrower in a clean, dry area.
