6 Cook ing Brow n Rice Brown rice takes longer to cook than white rice due to the extra bran layer s on the grai ns. When cook ing brown rice, add an ADDIT IONAL 1/4 cup of water for every cup of uncoo ked rice. For example, when cooki ng 1 cup of brown rice, the amoun t of water added to the inne r pot shoul d be 1-3/4 cups.
