GB - 5 AL WA YS disconnect wire from spark plug before assembly . Unintentional engine start up can cause death or serious injury . Complete a walk ar ound inspection of unit and work area to understand: • work area • your unit • all safety decals.
GB - 6 DO NOT pull trimmer backwards unless absolutely necessary . Look down and b ack, especially for small children, before and w hile moving backwards. DO NOT operate on steep slopes. NEVER leave unit unattended on a slope. Chock wheels if parking on a slope.

GB - 9 CONTROLS AND FEATURES See Controls an d Features (Figure 4) on page 8. T rimmer Hea d / T rimmer Lin es The trimmer hea d holds the t rimmer line and provides trimming height adjust ment. When mounted in the trimmer , t he trimmer lines extend about 8 in.
GB - 10 S t arting the Engin e 1. Push primer bu lb 2 or 3 times for a cold engine. 2. Set throttle cont r ol to Fas t. 3. Grasp starter handle and pull rope out slowly until it pulls harder . This is the compression stroke. Let rope rewind slowly . Then pull rope with rapid continuous full arm s troke to start engine.
GB - 1 1 SER VICE PO SITION (Figure 5) 1. Remove the gas cap and place a piece of plastic (a plastic gar bage bag works w ell) over the tank opening. Reinst all the cap. This keeps gasoline from spilling out of the t ank. 2. Set the unit swivel in the center p osition.
GB - 12 CHECK SP A RK PLUG See Engine Manual for specif ic information on checking, cleaning, and changing the spark plug. CHANGE ENGINE OIL Change the engine oil after the firs t 2 hours of use, then every 25 hours or every season, whichever comes first.
GB - 13 HANDLEBAR HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT (Figure 7) 1. Loosen and remove bot h wing knobs from handlebar . 2. Remove carriage bolts, t aking care to support handlebar . 3. Set handlebar to desired height . 4. Line up holes in upper handlebar wit h holes in lower handlebar .
GB - 14 SWIVEL HEAD A DJUSTMEN T (Figure 9) 1. S top the engine and wait for all moving parts to st op. Disconnect the spark plug wire and place it securely away from the spark plug. 2. Loosen the wing knob on the bra cket at the rear of the unit. 3. Rotate the back of the unit in the opposite direction of the side you wish to cut with.
GB - 15 T o remov e the old belt: 1. S top the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop. Disconnect t he spark plug wire and place it securely aw ay from the spark plug. 2. Place unit in service position (see Maintenance section) . 3. Remove the six (6) h ex washer head screws and t he trimmer shield.
GB - 16 TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM PROBABLE CAUSE CORRECTION Engine wi ll not st art or runs poorly 1. S park plug wire d isconnected. 2. Engine not primed 3. Fuel tank empty . 4. Throttle control lever not in correct position. 5. Engine is flooded. 6. Defective or incorrectly gapped spark plug.
GB - 17 If the trimmer is to be st ored for m ore than 30 days, follow these steps to prep are your unit. 1. Run the engine until it stops fr om running out of gasoline. See E ngine Manual for specific instructi ons on preparing t he engine for storage.
