-1- ABOUT YOUR PHONE The M ITEL N ETWORKS 5220IP phone has ten fi xed-function keys ( SUPERKEY, TRAN S/ CONF, REDIAL, MESSAGE, HOLD , CA NCEL, SPEAKER, MICROPHONE, , ), three softkeys, and 14 personal keys with built-in status indicato rs.

-3- IMPORTANT NOTE FOR HEADSET USERS: Mitel Networks Headsets with Feature Co ntrol Switch must be installed in the dedicated headset jack (the jack neares t the front of the set). Installation will disable your handset microphone. Di sconnecting the headset at the jack or at the quick-disconnect plug restores handset operation.
-4- TIPS FOR YOUR COMFORT AND SAFETY Don't cradle the handset! Prolon g ed use of the handset can lead to neck, shoulder, or back discomfort, especially if you cradle the handset between your ear and shoulder. If you use your phone a lot, you may find it mo re comfortable to use a headset.
-5- CUSTOMIZING YOUR PHONE Ringer Control To adjust the Ringer Volume while the phone is ringing: z Press , . To adjust the Ringer Pitch while the phone is idle: 1. Press SUPERKEY . 2. Press the No softkey until "Ringer Adjust?" appears. 3. Press the Yes softkey.
-6- Feature Keys You can use the SUPERKEY on your phone or the Desk to p Tool to program the personal keys. The D esktop Tool is a browser -based interface th at makes programming quick and easy. For more inform ation on usin g the Desktop Tool, plea se contact your System Administrator.
-7- MAKING AND ANSWERING CALLS Make a call 1. Lift the handset. 2. If you want to use a Non-Prime Li ne, press a Line Ap pearance key. 3. Dial the number, - OR - Press a Speed Call key. - OR - Press REDIAL . Answer a call z Lift the handset. - OR - Press the flashing Line appe ar ance key and lift the handset.
-8- Emergency Calls Warning for emergenc y number dialing: Consult your local authorities for Emergency Numbers and 911 or equivalent service availability in your area.
-9- To make an Emer g ency Call usin g the Line Interface Module line, when the IP connection has failed: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Press the Line Interface Module key that you have programmed. The set indicates IP FAIL: ANALOG CALL . 3. Dial your Local Emergency Number.
-10- Redial To redial the last number that you manually dialed: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Press REDIAL . Redial - Saved Number To save the last number that you manually dialed: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Dial **79 . To Redial a saved number: 1. Lift the handset.
-11- Speed Call Keys You may use Speed Call Keys to make a call or to send a string of digits during a call (press a Speed Call Key during a call to send a multi-digit password, for instance). To dial a stored Speed Call number: 1. Lift the handset. 2.
-12- Speed Call - Personal To dial a stored person al Speed Call number: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Dial *58 . 3. Enter an index number between 00 and 09 . To store a personal Speed Call number: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Dial *67 . 3. Enter an index number between 00 and 09 .
-13- Handsfree Operation To use Handsfree Operation to make calls: 1. If you want to use a Non-Prime Li ne, press a Line Ap pearance key. 2. Dial the number. 3. Communicate by using the sp eaker and the microphone. To use Handsfree Operation to answer calls: 1.
-14- Auto-Answer To enable or disable Auto-Answer: 1. Press SUPERKEY . 2. Press the No softkey until "Auto Answer?" appears. 3. Do one of the following: To enable Auto-Answer, press the TurnOn softkey. To disable Auto-Answer, press the TurnOff softkey.
-15- CALL HANDLING Hold To place a call on Hold: z Press Hold . To retrieve a call from Hold: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Press the flashing line key. To retrieve a call from Ho ld at another station: z Press the flashing line key. - OR - Dial **1 and the number of the station that placed the call on Hold.
-16- Conference To form a Conference when a two-party call is al rea dy in place, or to add another party to an existing Conference: 1. Press TRANS/CONF . 2. Dial the number of the next party. 3. Wait for an answer. 4. Press TRANS/CONF . To leave a Conference: z Hang up.
-17- Call Forward Call Forward lets you redirect incoming calls to an alternate number. Always redirects all incoming calls regardless of the state of yo ur phone. B-Int redirects internal calls wh en your phone is busy, an d B-Ext redirects external calls when your phone is busy.
-18- Call Forward - Remote To forward calls from a remote st ation to your current location: 1. Press SUPERKEY . 2. Press the No softkey until "Call Fo rwarding?" appears. 3. Press the Yes softkey. 4. Press the Next softkey until "I Am Here" appears.
-19- Call Forward - Forced To force an incoming call to be forwarded: z Press the Forward softkey. Call Forward - Override To override Call Forward and ring a station: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Dial *1* . 3. Dial the exte nsion number. Messaging - Advisory To turn Messaging - Advisory on: 1.
-20- Messaging - Callback To leave a message waiting indication on a phone when you hear busy or ringback tone: z Press MESSAGE or the Callback softkey. To respond to a message waitin g condition on your phone: 1. Press MESSAGE . 2. If a password is required, di al your password and press th e Enter softkey.
-21- To set, change, or clear a password (up to 7 digits, not including 0): 1. Press SUPERKEY . 2. Press the No softkey until "Set Pa ssword?" appears. 3. Press the Yes softkey. 4. Do one of the following: To enter a new password, enter your password.
-22- USING ADVANCED FEATURES Account Codes To use Forced Account Codes: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Dial the Account Code digits. 3. Press # . To enter an Account Code during a call: 1. Press SUPERKEY . 2. Press the Yes softkey. 3. Dial the Account Code digits.
-23- Call Park The Call Park feature allows you to place a ca ll in a special ho ld state . You, or someone else, can then retrieve the call from any extension in the system. After parki ng the call, the sy st em can automatically connect you to paging equipment so that you can announce the call to the requested party.
-24- Call Pickup To answer a call that is ringing at another station in your Pickup Group: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Press the Pickup sof tkey. To answer a call that is ringing at a station not in your Pickup Group: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Dial **6 . 3.
-25- Override To use Override when you en counter busy or DND tone: z Press the Intrude feature key. Paging To use Paging: 1. Lift handset. 2. Press the Pager feature key.
-26- Direct Paging Direct Paging allows you to page a party through their phon e speaker. If the paged party has Off-Hook Voice Announc e enabled, the page will be heard even when the party is on a handset or headset call. To page a party: 1. Lift the handset.
-27- Reminder To program a Reminder: 1. Press SUPERKEY . 2. Press the No softkey until "Timed Reminder?" appears. 3. Press the Yes softkey. 4. Enter the time in 24-hour format. 5. Press the Save softkey. To view, change, and/or cancel a pending Reminder: 1.
-28- Headset Operation (with Feature Control Switch) IMPORTANT NOTE: Mitel Networks Headsets wi th Feature Control Switch must be installed in the dedicated headset j ack (the j ack nearest the front of the phone). Installation will disable your handset microphone.
-29- Group Paging / Meet Me Answer Group Paging allows you to page a group of phones through their built-in speakers. You can belong to to as many as three paging groups with one group designated as your "prime" group.
-30- Record a Call This feature uses your voice ma il system to record your phone conversations. Note: You may be required by law to in form the other party that you are recording the conversation. For specific instructions, co nsult your system administrator.
-31- Hot Desking Hot Desking allows you to log into the telephone system from any phone designated as a Hot Desk phone. Simp ly log in at the phone using your assigned Hot Desk User Extension Number a.
-32- Call History Call Histor y k eeps track of the n ames (if available) and telephone numbers of missed calls, answered incoming ex ternal calls, an d outgoing ex ternal calls. Once enabled on your phone by yo ur system administrator, it functions automatically.
-33- To delete all missed, answered, or outgoing call logs: 1. After selecting the type of logs you wish to delete, press the DeleteAll softkey. 2. Confirm that you do want to de lete all items by pressing the Yes softkey.
-34- USING THE LINE INTERFACE MODULE The 5220 IP Phone supports the Mitel Line Interface Module. The Line Interface Module allows yo u to make and receive ca lls over an analog line (Line Interface Module lin e) connected to your ph one.
-35- Making and Answering Ca lls Using the Analog key To make a call using the Analog line: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Press the key you programmed as Line In terface Module. ANALOG CALL is displayed. 3. Dial the number. Note: When you make an external call over the analog line, a prefix dialing number is not required.
-36- To switch between the current call an d the held call when one of the calls is using the ana lo g line, do one of the following: z If your current call is using the analog line, press the flashing Line key of the held call. The analog call is automatically put on hold.
