Precautions and Notices For your own safety, do not operate the controls of the product while driving. Use this product prudently. The product is intended for use solely as a navigation aid. It is not for precise measurement of direction, distance, location or topography.
A car holder is needed when using the device in a car. Be sure that you place the device in an appropriate place, so as not to obstruct the driver’s view, or deployment of airbags. Do not mount where the driver’s field of vision is blocked. Do not place unsecured on the dashboard.
1 Getting Started 1.1 Understanding Hardware Components NOTE: Depending upon the specific model purchased, the color of your device may not exactly match the device shown in this manual. Front Components Ref Component Description Touch Screen rmation.

1.2 Performing the Initial Start Up 1. For the initial start up, press the power button for 5 seconds to turn on your device. NOTE: For normal operation, briefly press the power button to turn on and off your device. 2. Your device turns on. Immediately charge your device as described in the next section.

1.3 Connecting to AC Power and Charging the Battery When charging the battery for the very first time, you should charge it for at least 8 hours. 1. Slide and click the connector converter onto the AC adapter. 2. Connect the adapter cable to the bottom of your device.
1.4 Charging the Battery via the USB Cable 1. Turn on the computer. 2. Connect the mini-USB end of the USB cable to the bottom of your device and the other end to a USB port on your computer. 3. If your device is on, the screen as shown below appears.
1.5 Using Your Device in a Vehicle CAUTION: Select an appropriate location for mounting the device in a vehicle. Never place the device where the driver’s field of vision is block ed.
Connecting the Car Charger The car charger supplies power to your device when you are using the device in a car. CAUTION: To protect your device against sudden su rges in current, connect the car charger only after the car engine has been started. 1. Connect one end of the car charger to the power connector of the cradle.
1.6 Operating Basics Turning On and Off For normal operation, turn off the device by briefly pressing the power button. The device enters a suspended state. When you next briefly press the power button, the system resumes. You will either be back to where you left off or see the Home screen.
Tap Touch the screen once with your fingertip to open items or select onscreen buttons or options. Drag Hold your fingertip on the screen and drag up/down/left/right or across the screen. Tap and hold Tap and hold your fingertip until an acti on is complete, or a result or menu is shown.

1.7 Inserting a SD/MMC Card Your device has a SD/MMC slot where you can insert an optional Secure Digital or MultiMediaCard storage card. It supports up to 2GB storage card. To use a SD/MMC card, insert it into the slot, with the connector pointing to the slot and its label facing the front of the device.
2 Audio 2.1 Starting and Exiting Audio Audio features: 11 preset equalizer audio profiles Audio Playback of MP3/WAV/WMA files Basic playback controls such as play, pause, stop, next and previous Playback includes single selection play back, repeat, single repeat, sampling playback, normal sequence and random sequence.
The control panel appears on the screen wher e you can easily control the player by tapping the control buttons. To exit the program, tap . 2.2 Preparing the Audio Files for Your Device Before using the program, have the files (.mp3, .wav, or .wm a) ready on either your device’s My Flash DiskMy Audio folder or on a storage card.
The information area displays the current status including the play/pause/stop status, the elapsed time, the power status, the playback mode, the volume level, and the properties of the current song such as the artist (if avail able with the file), filename, total length, and stereo/mono inform ation.

2.5 Displaying Lyrics The program allows you to display the r eal-time lyrics on the screen while playing songs. This feature is especially handy for you to sing along with the songs. Preparing the Lyrics Files for your Device To display the lyrics, you need to have the lyrics files (.
To close the lyrics screen and go back to the control panel, tap anywhere on the screen. 2.6 Using the Play Lists You can create your own play lists for future use. Creating a Play List 1. Tap on the control panel to open the play list screen. The screen shows the current play list.
Back A dd all songs to the play list. Add the selected song(s) to the play list. 4. To save the play list, tap . 5. The keyboard screen appears where y ou can change the default name of the play list. Rename the play list if you want. Tap when finished.

Tap to save your selection and return to the control panel. To select the Default profile, tap . 2.8 Settings Tap on the control panel. The Settings screen appears. 3 Pictures 3.1 Starting and Exiting Pictures Pictures allows you to view pictures in JPG, J the slideshow of the pictures on your device. 3.3 Viewing Pictures in Thumbnail View 1. If your files are in a storage card, insert the card into your device. 2. Tap Pictures on the Home screen o start the program. 3. The program will search the matching files in the specific folder on your device and in all folders on a storage card.
3.4 Viewing a Picture in Full Screen When you tap a picture twice in the thumbna il view, the picture is displayed in full screen. Or, you can tap a picture and then tap . Next Previous To go back to the thumbnail view, tap anywhere on the screen to display the control buttons and then tap .

3.6 Viewing the Slideshow To view the slideshow of all your pictures, use one of the following ways: When in the thumbnail view, tap to start the slideshow. When in full screen, tap anywhere on the picture to display the on-screen control buttons.

4 Contacts 4.1 Starting and Exiting Contacts Contacts allows you to keep a list of names, addresses, and phone numbers. NOTE: If you have created Microsoft Outlook Contacts information on your computer, you can copy the information to your device. (See section 9.
4.2 Using the Contacts List After starting Contacts, the contacts list appears. It shows the names and phone numbers (mobile phone num bers by default) of your contacts. You can use the various buttons on the screen to search a contact, navigate to the address of a contact, call a contact, and so on.
4.3 Using the Summary Screen In the contact list, tapping a contact twice displays the summary screen of the contact. 4.4 Navigating to a Contact’s Address You can set a contact’s address as your GPS navigation destination. 1. Tap the Contacts button on the Home screen to start the program.
4. The navigation program starts. (See the document supplied with the navigation software for more information.) 4.5 Making a Phone Call to a Contact 1. Connect your device with a Bluetooth mobile phone as described in section 5.2. 2. Tap the Contacts button on the Home screen to start the program.
4.6 Managing Contacts Adding a Contact 1. Tap the Contacts button on the Home screen to start the program. 2. Tap . 3. Tap an entry field twice . Or, tap a field and then tap .
4. Use the soft k eyboard to enter the information in the field and tap . 5. Enter the information in other fields such as address and phone num ber fields.
6. Tap save the contact’s inform ation and return to the contact list. Editing a Contact To modify a contact’s information: 1. In the contact list, tap the contact twice to open the summary screen. - or - In the contact list, tap the contact and then tap .

5 Bluetooth 5.1 About Bluetooth Profiles Your device incorporates Bluetooth wireless communications technology. Devices with Bluetooth capabilities can exch ange information over a distance of about 10 meters (30 feet) without requiring a physical connection.
5.2 Connecting a Bluetooth Mobile Phone Connecting a Mobile Phone for the First Time NOTE: This chapter tells you how to initiate the Bluetooth connect ion from your device. If you want to initiate the Bluetooth connection from a Bluetooth mobile phone, make sure that your device is in discoverable mode.
5. Tap the soft keyboard to ente r the passkey (within 16 characters). 6. Enter the same passkey on your Bluetooth mobile phone so that the connection can be established. Depe nding on the mobile phone m odel, you may need to select the hands-free ser vice to complete the connection.
9. In the Mobile Phone main menu, you can place phone calls by tapping buttons on the screen. (See section 5.3 for information.) 10. You can tap Back to minimize the screen and use other functions of the device.
Connecting a Different Mobile Phone To connect a mobile phone that is not already in the shortcut list: 1. If you are in the Mobile Phone main menu, tap Connect to Phone . 2. In the shortcut menu, tap Find Others . Using the Mobile Phone Shortcut Once a Bluetooth connection has been established, the shortcut will be saved.
NOTE: All shortcuts will be cleared if you shut down the device. The program can save up to 15 shortcuts. A 16th shortcut will replace the oldest one. Disconnecting the Mobile Phone Tap the connected device in the shortcut menu and tap Disconnect when the message appears asking you to select your operation.
Dial By tapping the Dial button in the Mobile Phone main menu, you can enter the telephone number with the onscreen ke ypad. After entering the telephone number, tap to place the call. NOTE: International calls require a country code to be included in the phone number.
NOTE: When a mobile phone different from the previous one is connected, a message will appear asking if you want to replace the previous remote phone book with the current remote phone book. If you need to refresh the remote phone book, tap Get Phone Number to download the phonebook from the mobile phone again.
By default, the list shows the inco ming, outgoing, and m issed calls. You can filter the calls by tapping Options . NOTE: To clear the call history, use Bluetooth settings as described in section 8.8. Receiving a Call After pairing with a mobile phone (as described in section 5.
Operations during a Call During a phone call: If you need to input other numbers, such as an extension number, tap Keyboard to open the keypad and tap the digits. Tap Mute to mute your sound so that the other party cannot hear you. To end the mute mode, tap the button again.
5.4 Connecting a Bluetooth Headset Connecting a Headset for the First Time 1. Make sure that the headset to connect is a stereo Bluetooth headset. 2. Tap Stereo on the Home screen. 3. The program will search for nearby Bluetooth headsets if this is the first time you try to connect a headset.
5. Tap the soft key board to enter the pa sskey. (Check the headset manual for the passkey.) 6. When the connection is completed, a message will appear on the screen. Tap Yes . 7. The shortcut menu appears with the name of the connected device on top of the screen.
8. You can tap Back to go back to the Home screen. Connecting a Different Headset To connect a headset that is not already in the shortcut list, tap Find Others in the shortcut menu. Using the Headset Shortcut Once a Bluetooth connection has been established, the shortcut will be saved.

6 Calculator 6.1 Starting and Exiting Calculator Calculator provides three modes: Calculator , Currency , and Conversion. can use these modes to perform basic arithme tic, currency conversion, and measure conversion functions. Switch to Calculator mode. Switch to Currency mode. Switch to Conversion mode. Exit To exit the program, tap . 6.2 Using the Calculator Mode The Calculator mode allows you to perform any of the standard operations for which you would normally use a handheld calculator.

3. Tap the down arrow next to the input field to display a list of currencies and select the currency to convert from. When a currency is selected, the abbreviation of the currency will be disp layed on the upper left corner of the input field. Currency scroll list Scroll bar Tap to go to the editing screen.

4. Enter the exchange rate and tap to save the changes and go back to the previous screen. 6.4 Using the Conversion Mode The Conversion mode allows you to conve rt measures from one unit to another. 1. Start the Calculator program as described in section 6.
4. Tap the down arrow next to the input field to display a list of units and select the unit to convert from. When a unit is selected, the abbreviation of the unit will be displayed on the upper left corner of the input field. Unit indicator Input field Unit scroll list 5.

7 File Manager 7.1 Starting and Exiting File Manager File Manager storage card. allows you to transfer multimedia files between your device and a Tap Tools on the Home screen and then tap File Manager to start the program .
The File Manager screen shows specific fold ers of your device in the left column and the folder(s)/file(s) of the storage card, if inserted, in the right column. NOTE: The left column shows only “specific” folders in the My Flash Disk of your device.
3. To select the target folder, tap twice th e folder in the left column to open it. Or, tap the folder and then tap to open the folder. 4. If the source file is in a folder of th e storage card, tap twice the folder in the right column to open the folder.
NOTE: To go up one level, tap . 6. Tap to copy the selected file to the target folder. From Your Device to the Storage Card Use the same method as described in the pr evious sub-section to copy files from your device to the storage card except that the direction is from the left column to ( ) the right column.
8 Settings 8.1 Starting and Exiting Settings You can customize the system settings such as backlight brightness, volume, an language. Once you change the settings, the new settings will remain until you change them again. d Settings Tap the button on the Home screen.
To exit Settings, tap . The following sections describe the various buttons and their functions. 1. Tap the Settings button on the Home screen. 2. Tap the 8.2 Backlight Backlight button. Move the knob along the trac 3. k bar to adjust the brightness of the backlight.

8.4 Screen You can calibrate the touch screen if it is not responding accurately to your taps. 1. Tap the Settings button on the Home screen. 2. Tap the Screen button.
5. When the target m oves to another pos ition, tap and hold the centre of the new target. Repeat each time to complete the calibration process. 6. When completed, tap . 8.5 Power To check the remaining power level of your battery and/or set up the power saving feature: 1.
4. Tap to save the changes. 8.6 Date/Time 1. Tap the Settings button on the Home screen. 2. Tap the Date/Time button. 3. To change the time zone, tap the arrow in the “Time Zone” item.
4. To change the date, tap the down a rrow in the “Date” item. A calendar pops up. Tap the left arrow on the calendar to go to the earlier month and year or the right arrow to the later month and year. Alternatively, you can tap the month or year on top of the calendar to directly change the month or year.
8.7 Language 1. Tap the Settings button on the Home screen. 2. Tap the Language button. 3. Tap the up/down arrow button to select the desired language.
8.8 Bluetooth 1. Tap the Settings button on the Home screen. 2. Tap the Bluetooth button. 3. The “Bluetooth Settings” screen contains 3 buttons as described below. 4. After you complete your settings in a screen, tap Done . 5. Tap Back to go back to the Settings screen.
BT Preferences C520 The setting items in the “BT preferences” screen are: Name Tap twice this field if you want to rename the Bluetooth device name. A soft keyboard appears for you to enter the new name. Enable Bluetooth The Bluetooth radio is on when this ite m is checked.
You can specify how soon your device auto matically answers an incoming call. If you want to manually answer a call, select Never . Delete Preferences Whenever you want to delete partic ular data as listed below, check the corresponding item(s) in the “Delete preferences” screen.

9 MioTransfer 9.1 Installing MioTransfer MioTransfer allows you to easily transfer da ta such as MP3 and photos your device and a computer. To install MioTransfer to your computer: between 2. age selecting screen app ears, click the language that you wish 1.

Contacts Allows you to copy the Microsoft Outlook Contacts information from your computer to your device. (See section 9.4 for details.) Mio Online Provides link to the Mio website. To exit MioTransfer, click Exit at the bottom right corner of the screen.

The left column shows the drives of your computer and the right column shows the files in the appropriate folder of the target device (either or ).
NOTE: You can also copy files from your device to your computer. First select the file you want to copy from the right column and select a folder on the left column to place these files. Then click to start the file transfer. Managing Files Various buttons are available for you to manage the files: Rename Changes the name of the selected file.
